Any work you make public using their app they can appropriate and use in their marketing. Words to that effect anyway. Goes way beyond the normal requirements for sharing/publishing on a common platform.
I think a lot of sites do this with images.
This is different. We took your music and cut a few seconds out, we now use it as audiologo, thx for the free music.

From the rest we did cut some loops and sold them to however
Then they use your next big hit in their tv advertising, thx again for the free music idiot.
Sounds the same to me.
The difference is if you are not Helmut Newton, you don't arrange your sets. Just press a button and take a snapshot.
Music is always arranged. This takes time.
Musicians know this, they also know about copyright and even if they give you their music for free they usually don't give up their rights to the music.
This is not Flickr, or something
Im wondering what's with this online stuff,
Who asked for that?!?
Do you want to share your music with other musicians?
Huh? What for? There is enough of that already.
Many companies tried to sell this a service, they all failed. It did never lift off.
I wasn't referring to photography.
I don't understand.

I think Ty Unwin says it all concerning these blocks on the Sonic State talk video.
No he had a bad day.

"What can this thing do that my iPad can't?"
5d touch
And he doesn't care if 5d touch cost him 3000 bugs or 200. But I do.
Is the 5th d anything to do with StarTrek?
If you look a little backwards I explained what 5d touch is without the marketing crap.
Yeah I get it. But then I can get pretty expressive with what is already on the iPad (Animoog keyboard, TC data, midi input from pedals, Split screen, split midi command senders etc). Maybe it has a future, but at this time it seems very limited in execution.
Maybe I'm just short sighted and it will be the next BIG thing
And yes, some say I do look a little backwards
yup. pretty much exactly what I was thinking since I first saw these things.
Can a brother get a video link?

Does anyone have one of these yet? I see that CEX in Stratford, East London, has them for £130 somehow.
I just tried the Roli Noise app for the first time - seriously unimpressed! Ok, it has the nice glides vertically and horizontally, but:
If this is the main app supported by their hardware, they would have to do a lot better to tempt me to buy.
Anyone have one yet?
I have one and I love it. I hesitate to respond for someone chastising me for cheating. However, its its own thing I feel. I do not do music that the Noise app is suited best for so I can't relate to that, but I love using the extra dimensions and finger polyphony on my laptop. really love it.
Something to be said for carrying around a small squishy block that a slender rigid delicate thing. works for me.
Does it produce midi data that can be used in any app, or is it pretty fixed to the Roli app, which just doesn't cut it for me. I went into an Apple store particularly to try it out, but between headphones not working and the Block not connecting to the iPad, it was not a happy few minutes (admitedly I didn't have a long time there).
t does produce midi note and control data just like any controller. Sends CC74 for sliding, Aftertouch for pressure, note on/note off, PitchBend and release velocity. In Bitwig and Cubase, the data is recorded per note which is very cool. and you can see and edit the curves. I'm assuming it will work fine with any iPad app though you won't neccesarily get the MPE style per note stuff. I'll try it out and write back once I recharge my block and have a chance to test it out...
hooked it up to iPad using bluetooth and tried it in Animoog, Nanostudio (Eden) and Moog Model 15 and it works! very well I'd say. And in Moog Model 15, there appears to be an MPE mode.
The current firmware has fixed MPE midi channel per note output and a fixed note range. So if your synth doesn't support that and you try to use normal Omni mode to receive it the pitch bend messages for each touch will fight with each other. It'll be fine for one finger.
I think they have plans to provide more features and options in standalone mode in future updates.
Minimum pressure is a bit on hard side physically, and the pressure resolution curve of the sensor requires a lot more force than you might want. There are some update rate issues with the current firmware too, which I hope they can improve on. But having such a small yet usable expressive controller is a good thing to have in the world.
Looking forward to the upcoming Joue and Sensel products to see how they stack up
Thanks for the feedback, that makes it a lot more interesting!
I forgot to mention that Roli has the best customer support, bar none. You can go to their website and instantly chat with anyone and they are most helpful and knowledgeable. I never had a problem that wasn't solved right away.
One more thing. This thing seems indestructible. I don't know if you can actually drive a car over it like the QuNexus, but my guess if you could. I love the resistance of the squishy part. You can really have at this thing and even feel like you are squeezing as hard as you want or banging as hard as you need and it just feels perfect. To me at least. Obviously, I'm very impressed with this. Not trying to promote. Just trying to share my experience with it...
@gkillmaster - have you tried this in Gadget, as if it were some kind of radical alternative to a Korg Nanoknob/blob Studio type of thing? It'd be interesting to know how far this takes you in Gadget.
ha! I have Gadget but haven't tried it there. Now I'm curious about that too... I will try to get around to doing this today and report my experience, (though I'm not really versed in Gadget.)
