just tried this and some things seem to work as expected. The slide parameter (MIDI CC74, brightness) is already assigned in some of the gadgets as filter cutoff or some other parameter that controls the tone is a similar way. Pitch bend (Glide in Roli speak) is assigned correctly to pitch bend though the range seems limited on most gadgets. But it works.
Velocity works but doesn't feel good. I don't like the (lack of) sensitivity of the block in this regard. I'm hoping I can adjust the velocity sensitivity in future firmware revisions. On all the gadgets I tried, this is kind of an issue. I have to hit the block pretty hard to get a sound and hit it slightly less hard to get a quiet sound. I don't think they've worked out the sensitivity range though I get the feeling the hardware is capable of it.
clicking on a MIDI CC# assign parameter reassigns that parameter to CC74. I can't seem to get it to assign any other dimension of the block. And I'm not sure how Gadget treats aftertouch but I'm not able to find any gadgets that seem to respond to it.
I opened up iM1 app separately and couldn't get it to work with it at all (though it works fine in iWavestation). I do see that you can enable pitch bend and filter out aftertouch, so I assume it could be receiving aftertouch. The press dimension on the block is "channel pressure" per note, so I'm not really sure how this dimension works in Gadget or iM1.
And the last dimension is release velocity but I don't see how to make use of that parameter.
I'll keep plugging away and see if I can get any more clarity about it. Will ask Roli support about it as well.
Sorry I can't be more clearly informative.
Thanks. Hmm, this is all very interesting. Interesting indeed.
Tried these out at the Apple store today. Love the size and the general idea, but I couldn't get past feeling like it was a novelty. Much prefer pads for drums and actual keys for synths, etc. I'm looking forward to joue with the overlaid pads etc.
Have you tried using Midiflow to boost the velocity ? It's one of the options in the Midiflow settings.
no, i haven't. But now I see the benefit it so I might try it now! thanks for the reminder! I do wish Roli had a separate setup app outside of Noise where you can adjust response curves etc, like in the Seaboard.
