@richardyot So glad you chose to venture down the unplugged route. Creates space/air that only your vocals can fill. No bells and whistles to complicate or camouflage your natural vocal voice. The time, effort and commitment to improve, is most definitely paying you back. You deserve it. I felt every word and you know how much I enjoy that.
So, which mic did you use to record this? Hadn't heard of the term "comping" before. I do try to record 3 tracks, but then get lazy and just use the last take without sifting through the others. Yes, important phrases and words are worth the effort to get right and each can tell the story in many different emotional ways.
Liking travelling down the "man and guitar" avenue this month, and inspiration is flowing. Thank you. Guitarism without the big pig stomp box? Surely not!

Thanks, the vocals are slowly getting better, but then I hear someone like @Bootsy or listen back to the original Wings by Birdy and I see that there is a loooonnnngggg way still to go. Still it's fun, singing is really a joyful thing to do.
As for the mic, it's all done with the Shure MV51(a USB/Lightning mic), because my XLR condenser mics are all still in storage, we're still living out of suitcases in holiday homes. It's been seven months now, we're hoping to move into a new house by the end of March, and I can finally get my guitars, mics, and interface back. For the last few months I've been using the USB mic and a battered old second-hand 12 string acoustic.

@AlterEgo_UK the vocalist has a terrific voice, and it's an excellent performance. If was producing this I might be tempted to add some compression, or even limiting, just to dial back the loudest parts of the vocal performance and bring the volume down a touch - it's one of those rare tracks that maybe has too much dynamic range IMO.
Thanks @richardyot Yes, she has a huge dynamic range. I did apply some compression but maybe not enough. I must admit to not really knowing how to use either compressiors or limiters to deal with this without making the vocals sound unnatural.
Well in this case it should be fairly straightforward because you just want to tame the very loudest peaks, so I would set a fairly high threshold so that the compressor/limiter only kicks in when she is really belting. Then set a fast attack, a slow release and a soft knee to avoid sudden changes. It also helps to add the compression at the start of the chain, and to use a high-quality plugin for maximum transparency, Pro L for example would be perfect for this.
