    Same here, I do all my device backups locally and download all purchases and keep a local copies.
    When an app has a 'major' updates I keep the previous releases in a separate folders but lately I've been sloppy with that. I see no need to keep iOS4-6 apps around as I no longer have devices to run them on :)

    On windows when you update an app it automatically moves the older one into the recycle bin. I use it as a temporary backup lol. I have like 2-3 app updates there usually. Haven't "emptied" the recycle bin in years. Just delete stuff mannually when I no longer need it.

    Hmmm, not sure I follow completely what you are saying but I did a backup on my windows machine. When I restored it on the new ipad it didn't copy any of the apps per se but it did copy what seemed to be about %95 of the app data (wav files, user presets etc.) The ipad then proceeded to automaticly download all my apps without me having to do anything. It wasn't tortorous aside from simply waiting for it to finish. I guess the baller fibre connection didn't hurt. ;)

    Buffer is set to the lowest value (128)

    Adding a 7th instance on the Air 2 it all starts to crackle.

    Happy to announce the 10.5" runs 14 lexingtons so, as the benchmarks suggest, it's twice as powerful as the Air 2. I could even add a 15th without crackles, but doing anything on screen made it crackle, so I'd say 14 is the "official" number.

    Very happy with the performance boost, and the upgrade in general. The new screen is awesome and the pencil incredible.

    Update: my iPad is still installing apps in the background, so I'll try the test again tomorrow when it's "settled down" to see if I can add that 15th instance without crackles :wink:

    I think I'm going with the 10.5 at 256GB... but I might try to hold off until iOS11 drops. Though, I spent hours doing housekeeping on my Air2 and only have 12GB of free space at the moment. The new Affinity Photo iPad is eating much of that up. Now I'm wondering if even 256GB will be enough :|

    That makes sense maybe, if both are identical CPUs and GPUs that are clocked the same (i haven't seen confirmation of that yet, but I assume that they are), then the 12.9 has more pixels to drive, so perhaps that might explain the score?

    Logic Pro was running fine on 4GB Intel systems not too long ago. I'm not sure Logic is anymore RAM intensive than GarageBand actually. It's just a matter of how to present the advanced features in an iOS friendly way. Apps like Affinity Pro, Luna Fusion and even Swift Playgrounds show that this can be done

    The trouble with all the extra space, is that you get lazy and just fill it up without being conservative and offloading stuff when you need to. I'll most likely be fine with the 256Gb and just have to adopt a better external storage regiment. I've already priced this thing, and I think the 10.5 256GB is the most I want to spend on this. These ipads won't replace my laptop quite yet, and I might have to upgrade my aging 2012 MBP in the next year or so too.

    in my case i don't use laptops at all. my desktop is at my home while my ipads are for moving around. the 12.9 ipad 512 should be more than enough to replace a laptop for me.

    Update after all apps installed: still 14 Lexingtons without a crackle, adding no. 15 adds crackles when you interact with the screen.

    So compared to the iPad Air 2 the new 10.5" pro has:

    2x the CPU power
    2x the RAM
    20% larger and brighter screen with TrueTone and ProMotion
    Better build in speakers in stereo
    Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard support

    All in all I'm pretty happy with the upgrade :smiley:

    You have to keep in mind that last gen they had a staggered release. The fact that they were announcing them together made it seem like they were closer together. Plus they pretty much said multitasking would work better on 4gb devices pretty much making us expect the smaller one to have at minimum 4gb.

    in my case i don't use laptops at all. my desktop is at my home while my ipads are for moving around. the 12.9 ipad 512 should be more than enough to replace a laptop for me.

    In my case, my laptop IS my "desktop". I just have a home hub that I connect my laptop to Apple's thunderbolt display and an array of drives, wireless touchpad and wireless keyboard. That way, I can take it mobile or use it at a more "desktop" scenario. It's all still very functional, and I don't really have an immediate need to upgrade/update anything to be honest.

    The only thing tempting me is that I've been waiting for the rumored 10.5 for awhile, and I'm getting tired of trying to make 64GB work. And, the new Affinity Photo iPad app (though currently very buggy on launch) shows a lot of promise for being my new go-to photo editing suite for everything. But, it also looks like it's a serious resource hog that my Air 2 just isn't going to be up to snuff for.

    Hoping to hobble along for a couple more months though. I'm hoping to get out on the road via motorcycle very soon, and I don't really want to worry about taking a brand new 10.5 ipad pro with me... that hasn't had the "new" worn off of it yet. ;)

    My 10.5 was just delivered. It's a huge step up from my overburdened IPad 2 in terms of speed and storage. It will be a different world for me.

    Jajaja, awesome!...Well...no...Any iPad model it's a step up from the iPad 2 at this point. Even an iPad 3 would be a major leap forward (Retina display and slightly more usable)

    The apps are like on the 12.9 iPad at launch?, I imagine developers will need to update to support the resolution.

    Do you find the 20% gain in screen real estate over the 9.7, very significant? Or, hardly noticeable?

    Apps are just slightly bigger (scaled up, not more workspace) I guess they need updates.

    Hmmm... that sounds like more the latter then. I'll have to just go by a store and compare the 12.9 to the 10.5. I'd love a big screen, but for overall mobility, etc. I think I like the more compact physical size of the 9.7/10.5

    I went by the store. The 10.5 doesn't seem noticeably bigger to me.

    In my opinion the 12.9 is still the device if you want more visual space to work with.

    I just came home from Apple Store here outside Stockholm, and, with me I bring home my new iPad Pro 12.9" with 256GB...
    Was'nt that impressed with the new size (10.5") and bought the big one instead...
    So, now I have two 12.9" - damn Apple!!

    Now will the long wait to restore 120GB over iCloud :-(
    Perhaps ready in two days...

    My gutfeeling around the new screenresolution in the new 10.5" is that not many developer may support it...
    That was the last thing that made me buy the big one...

    My thinking so far is that I'm okay with the resolution. If the virtual keyboards get scaled up a little that's actually a good thing as I'll have a slightly bigger target in a smaller device than 12.9
