It's such a pain to deal with limited screen real estate especially when it comes to complex applications. Couple that with reduced acceptance from users to pay even a moderate price like 20 bucks for an app on the iPhone and a tiny market for it. I'm not surprised that there are very few iPhone DAWs.

I’d pay £20 for a functional app if it was fully featured..many synths cost that much!

Apps like GarageBand and gadget are universal now so it’s a choice of which devices to use it on.

I don’t think it’s a tiny market mate- it’s an open one, with huge potential.

I reckon thousands have gadget on their phones and likely millions have GB on their phones.

On this forum, it’s iPad dominated and that’s fair enough but, we cannot call that an absolute projection of what is and what is possible:)

No matter how often you say this, I'm afraid the numbers still don't support it. The "music on a phone" market is tiny. And the increasing number of different screen-sizes and aspect ratios that need to be supported (ugh.. dat iPhone X with its horrible screen gap) make it less worth the considerable design/development effort as time moves on.

I reckon that nano studio, BM2 and caustic have sold lots of units via iPhone users

You say all this yet all your apps are universal...

    Garageband

it's ok, but kind of limited, and has a weird workflow.

Garageband has the most user friendly and most intuitive workflow for me.. if you need something quick you never have to scratch your head, since you always know what It can and cannot do.

BeatMaker 3 for iPhone is promised.
And there is another DAW in beta at the moment (not sure I'm allowed to announce it)

You mean nano studio 2? Your allowed to mention it..

I wouldn’t hold your breath about BM3 for iPhone, they will never get rid of the iPad bugs lol

Development takes time. Complex development takes more time.

  • NanoStudio 2 is going to be iPad only on initial release and no audio tracks, as far as I have understood.
When you look at the complexity of some of the apps and what they are capable of on the phone I can’t see that being a major drawback to take into consideration when making an iPhone version. Cubasis is a prime example as most of the functions are hidden.
I would happily pay for a phone version of Cubasis!

Yes, iPad version first but Matt is likely the best dev for iPhone music and that has been promised

It will have AUV3 so that will enable audio or midi??

It will be bought immediately when it becomes available on the phone! :-)

do any of the iphone DAWs have built in Convolution reverb?

"The initial IAP options will be an extremely efficient convolution reverb (the base app comes with a new algorithmic reverb)" - dev's info on nanostudio public forums

  • Given the complexity/cost of writing a DAW I'm amazed there are any for IOS.
