Yo, I need a new interface (and your help)
Pretty self-explanatory. I play guitars and keys and need a new interface. It will be used 100% for iOS at home for the time being, but there is the possibility of desktop down the road.
I’d appreciate your specific recommendations if you have a trusty one, or your giving me a few options to start with researching.

id love to hear this discussion. I might want to consider an upgrade for better sound if that is actually real and not just marketing. I saw the new Universal Audio Arrow that looks amazing. I have been wanting a top notch interface for a while.
What kind do you have @oat_phipps ? I have a Behringer UMC 204 HD right now. Its not really bad at all actually.
How many in/outs are you looking for?

Well, one I guess. I don’t see any reason I’d need more, unless you can edify; all I do is record single tracks on projects and send them back to the producer.
P.S.: in the above video, I recorded all the audio with the One’s internal Mic instead of with one of my condensers.
Focusrite has been great for me!
I really like the Apogee product line, but, I haven't wanted to pay that much for an interface as of yet.

I was about to ask if that was the mic. The quick cut/tiny guitar appearance out of nowhere made me laugh because my brain hadn’t yet registered that it was playing another track; I felt like I was in a Leslie Nielsen movie for a second and you were just screwing with all of us.
But yeah, that Apogee One was the starting point I had in mind before posting the thread.

Lol! The tiny guitar is a cavaquinho, the grandfather of the ukulele. Glad to be helpful. I cannot recommend the One enough (and the Duet, btw, which I also have but seldom use it because it’s permanently plugged in my Mac). The One’s high quality AD/DA and its mic (which is omni directional and requires a silent place, I must warn you) were a huge upgrade for me when I bought the interface (I used to have a PreSonus USB, which required an adapter and didn’t sound even close as good).
The Behringer UMC404HD is top of my list at the moment.
I thought about it for a long time and finally picked up the Behringer UMC404HD I am pretty pleased with it. And the price is amazing compared to similar interfaces!

Works on powered usb hub - no need to plug into a wall if you have a proper battery for hub.
Can you actually make use of those inserts without a 'proper' computer? I've had those on my Akai EIE for ages but never managed to make it work. Most likely user error as I believe one needs a special lead to make them work.
No computer necessary for FX inserts. You need a TRS (tip-ring-sleeve) connection on one end and the cable splits into two TS connections, one goes into effect input and the other on the effect output.

Can I record to DAW through this device from my Ipad?
I tried the Behringer next to the Steinberg UR44 and returned the Behringer. The difference in clarity was obvious, as well as the build quality.
I think the AG06 is an excellent interface for using with iOS and a computer. Can run via usb or with a battery pack, many routing options, iOS compliant.
Really? Wow ok then do you think something from universal audio would be an even bigger jump in quality?
Is there any UA interface that works on ios? I highly doubt it as all of their interfaces act as DSP for their plugins, and there is no 'driver/console' app for ios.
On topic:
I love my rme babyface, portable enough, powerful enough, comes with great app that lets you route anything anywhere, build and sound qualities are top notch.
RME and UAD use the same integrated mic preamp chips (Texas Instruments PGA 2500), Apogee uses a similiar chipset by THAT.
Both are high quality, preference is up to taste - the first is very (!) clean, the latter a bit more 'musical' imho.
No UAD control software to load and handle DSP routing in IOS.
For sound quality I'd prefer an Audient ID14 (discrete analog channels) which has a very good DI input instead of Focusrite/Steinberg/iConnectivity.

In Amazon after the product description there’s a long list of questions. Someone asked if they could use it with their iPad and the answer was no. It was the 404. Is that right?

I moved from an Apogee One to Behringer UMC204HD. If there is a difference in quality or clarity, it's lost on me.
depends on what you feed it - the output stages of the Behringer are ok, as are most current devices (even IOS onboard stuff)
But Apogee has a strong point in their special noise shaping technology - hard to imagine any 'simple' standard interface can compete in that domain... again: if sources apply.
There's enough sound crap around (virtual instruments, samples, effect plugins) that it hardly matters indeed
