iVoxel is probably the most appropriate match. Has both pitch, time, formant shifting, a "breath mode", and what's even better, MIDI control.
It runs on an old iPhone (iOS7) too so that may even be a cheaper, more compact and much more powerful package.
I guess that most of the sounds you get out of PO-35 can be done with iVoxel too.

Voice Synth does something similar, it also offers different "Voice Modes", but you cannot stretch the phrase in time because it's "only" a kind of a vocoder.

Also frekvens is good for speak and spell. There is a haqattaq video showing it off.

One more vote for ivoxel too.

  • so is ivoxel better quality or not than the po35?

  • I’m curios about the Midi Out on the OPZ. Hoping it offers 16 Channels of Midi Out. That would be amazing if it is. Smallest multi channel hardware sequencer in the market. <3

Op-z sequencing is just bonkers. That’s the draw for me. It can create randomized bass patterns based on the scale/key, and easily create polyrhythms for drums. Could be the dream tool for creating ambient stuff.

You can do that on ios with Rozeta or xynthesizer.

I think it will offer per step conditionals though. Right now only Quantum does this on iOS. GrooveRider will be next.

    Patterning can do that

Many other beat machines on iOS as well. Or maybe there is something that I’m not getting?

It's not the same. From what I recall, Patterning doesn't allow you to specify the Note and Scale you want the Step to play at. It does it fine for the samples...but not if you want to sequence a synth with many notes over time.

And as far as Per Step probability, what I mean is the ability to specify what the percentage of playback probability is on a per step basis. Right now Quantum does this, and Rozeta does to an extent but it's a more generalized approach to the whole sequence, and not per step...as does MIDISteps...

I think if the OP-Z allows you to sequence 16 individual Midi channels (the way it will with 16 internal tracks) then a lot of people will be attracted to it...but if it's only 1 Midi sequence channel...then it will be a curiosity more than anything....

My opinion of course...which I am entitled to change once more reviews come out (Cuckoo never really got into what Midi functionality was present during his demo).

haven't used patterning much. i had used it to send midi notes though, and it has conditional triggering. but yeah, probably more limited, although for evolving ambient stuff should be fine.
