With pencil support and a processor upgrade, > @MonzoPro said:
A10 Fusion is meant to be a reasonable update from the A8x of the Air2. A lot will depend on the ram they include and I will be surprised if they stick with the 2gb of the Air2 with it having pencil support. Will have to wait for a strip down to see. They aren’t going to make it as fast as a Pro, but it’s not the same price as the Pro model either. As long as they don’t do a stupid UK price now the Pound / Dollar has improved.
Ah right, didn't realise it was that much faster, guess we'll have to wait and see what they do with the RAM. Pencil support would be good though.
This is a fairly small announcement, the “free” annual refresh. Same price as 2017 iPad...with just a few improvements.
The real news will be at WWDC in a few months, hopefully with a new iPad Pro. I nearly laughed out loud when I unboxed my 12.9 (those bezels
are huge).
Except there haven't been a lot of annual refreshes on the iPad front. I hope they move on though. A Pro with an A11X makes sense now. Not that I would put down the cash for it...
It’s about 1.5 times the speed of air2 I think.
But will it run 10 instances of Minimoog?
Wow I can buy an Apple Pencil for the new iPad!
Wow thanks Apple.
Tell me the other awesome things...............
LULZ
They haven't done anything innovative for iOS in so long............
I get Apple is a "Green" company now......
cuz they keep recycling their ideas................
It‘s called Apple Loops

Ah, then I have the wrong end of this stick.
AKA: Fucked without a kiss.
Still 128gb maximum storage, However, with Apple Pencil support, this could be great to use ProCreate and Gadget on.
This makes me think that there will be a serious update to the pro line as well. Or maybe its just wishful thinking..
Meanwhile...

Also Apple US have the 2017 refurb for $239...
Wait, I checked again and they are already out of 32GB. So it’s 128GB for $309. Not bad

Ha, good one!
UK & Euro prices are actually pretty tempting now...
Makes me wonder what the current 10.5 will go for if they’ll announce a new one at WWDC.
Yeah if they make an even more expensive Pro model, I could see them keeping the current one at a cheaper price to give them 3 tiers
So what’s the difference between this and the 9.7inch pro?
Not sure if they'll keep it around, but for a while the current model will be on sale... And second hand prices could be very interesting.
A standard (iPhone 7) A10 already beats the A9X and at the very least it'll have the same amount of RAM (2GB). It's possibly higher clocked too...
You’re probably going to have to temper that advantage with the extra resource for the larger screen. But, either way, this is going to be very tempting for those with an Air 2 or an earlier iPad. In terms of my Pro 9.7, it probably won’t be worth the trade. I’m holding-out for a new (and hopefully improved) 10.5 at WWDC. I want to be able to run at least 3 instances of Model 15 at 256 with effects and no crackles. I’m saving my pennies but not holding my breath.
Yeah agree that for us Air2 and older models, the new one seems a decent deal. Obviously I’m comparing against the new market - second hand is a weird market, that I will avoid, unless so cheap I can add in the price of a new battery. I personally think Apple is wise to keep a cheaper model that can still run the more modern apps. With that in mind, the update of the processor and having pencil use makes a lot of sense (all for under that magic £400 in the UK.
The new model actually feels like an upgrade from my Air2 without the cost of hundreds more than the Air2 cost (looking at you Pro models).
I’m not saying there wasn’t or isn’t room for higher cost models, but many of us have set a value of worth to be invested in iOS as we do in laptops. I personally will never spend the money asked for the new MacBook Pros and I think keeping some form of decent entry level gear is very wise.
Same battery - and thanks to the better processor the resulting runtime times will improve a bit, in case of same usage.
Main advantages:
Disadvantages:
Damnn.. I just bought the 2017 iPad last januari....
Hope they add a mini MIDI port to the iPad
Never knew this until yesterday, but those that are interested in saving a few bucks can still get the ipad at the student discount even if you're not a student. Apple works on the honor system when purchasing through their website... so just go to apple.com/Education and purchase it there to save $30. It will ask you who it's for - just select student and there should be no questions asked.
I'm pretty sure I'll be picking up a 128GB ipad in a few weeks. I've held out on my ipad 4 long enough. Last year the 2017 model ipad just didn't quite have the power/specs I wanted, and the Pro's were just a little outside of what I wanted to pay. This new 2018 model hits the sweet spot for me! (Can't wait - but I think i will hold off a week or two until I see a few initial user reports)
Aaaah.. I just bought the Pro 9.7 1st gen last week. Will the new standard ipad 9.7 be faster and able to run more apps simultaneously? A9X vs A10
Thank goodness it has a headphone jack

Definitely might pick up one of these soonish
So is the A10 chipset and 2GB worth the upgrade from a iPad Air 1? I think mine has A7 and 1GB RAM. I use mostly Cubasis and Gadget.
