But I get your idea, that game developement can be complex.
more than just an idea.
(grumble... monday)
anyone making a living playing with BM3 and Egoist yet?
I wonder why Cubasis is on sale for half price so often. $25 for a DAW made by Steinberg. Apparently, on iOS, it's not such an easy sell at 50.
Think most people bought Cubasis when the made once again an offer to get it for half that price.
I make part of my living playing live music with iOS. I don't use those particular apps, but currently my go-tos are AUM, bs-16i, Addictive Synth, Zeeon, Sunrizer, LoopyHD, DrumJam, and Mid-east Drummer.

Complaining that a ten dollar synth is too expensive... where to start?... I can't tell if you're entitled teenagers who just don't know any better, or geezers who are just completely out of touch. Either way, the whole direction this conversation has gone is cringeworthy. I feel like I'm eavesdropping on a conversation of some clueless folks eating at a nice, small restaurant with fresh, high quality ingredients complaining that they can get something cheaper at a fast food joint. Yeah, then get the fuck out. If ten dollars is too much for a nice synth, or fifty for a fully fledged DAW, then gtfo. seriously! I'm broke as a joke, and that's some cheap ass shit right there. Should every restaurant be free because soup kitchens exist?
Why should the Theater charge me to see a movie when I don't have to pay anything when I torrent it at home?! Whaaaaaa!!
..The topic went from several small developers answering that unless you're big, there's not that much money in it... to griping that these apps should be free because you can get free shit elsewhere. Unreal...
So because VCV rack is open source, everyone should be?! I'm personally not a fan of this race to the bottom. I love that there are extremely affordable music apps that sound as good as many hardware synths and FX. I love that there's a plethora of free stuff out there and that people create great software for the love of it. But people gotta eat.
Hell, I'm considering selling my Prophet 6 ($1,999.99) because Zeeon ($9.99) nearly blows it out of the water in terms of overall versatility and sound.
But don't compare the price of some iOS app to some non-related, free app. that's just silly. Simply compare just about any app that exists both in the iOS app store and the OSX app store, like gadget or most notetaking apps (OSX is often about 10x the price)
It's all apples and orangutans. It's called capitalism. Be grateful to the developers who frequent these forums and listen pur up with our collective whining. Many of the good ones work hard to keep these apps working for us on as many different OS's as possible and add features based on our endless moaning. I have a feeling they're not as wealthy as you might think.
Sorry, probably shouldn't post drunk
this struck a bit of a nerve, though. I'm a freelance musician and I get sick of people expecting me to work for free, for under minimum wage, or worse yet the ol' pay-to-play scheme.
@palm well written
I personally don't have a problem with paying £10 for an app, but just to play devil's advocate I can't resist responding to the above.
You're selling your Prophet for £2k. Is this more or less than what you paid for it?
How much will you be selling your copy of Zeeon and the iPad you're using to run it in a few years time?
Will you replace your Prophet, which earns it's keep as you're a pro musician, with an iPad on stage? I haven't used one on stage myself, but it's not proved the most reliable instrument in rehearsals.
Doing the sums over ten years, what do you reckon will have proved to be most cost effective - a hardware synth, or iPads running apps?
That is really cool, good for you. I wish I had the live bug.
The bitter pill I am constantly swallowing is that creativity in general, even when executed well, does not by virtue equal monetary reward or even critical reception. Build it and they will come? Eh, maybe. We have all seen lots of good ideas, good products/output go either way. Some came about by passion and grit with no budget, others by spreadsheets and millions of other people’s dollars. It is all a crap shoot plus it rarely last very long when it does strike. BMW one day, Ford Pinto the next. @palm, file me under depressed, bitter geezer.
Yes, you should not post drunk. I think you don´t read all the posts here.
I see no real complaining about the prices. It was more about that iOS is not always cheaper.
I bought stuff from a dollar to 1000+ and a number doesn´t say much about value.
Who said all apps have to be free? Only you so far.
Your drunken rant is more teenager like then the rest in this thread.....
in fact it's not that much complaining about prices, but rather comments about what's justified. Spiced with requests for more updates or the reverse '... don't buy because it hasn't been updated...', all for the prize of pizza.
Well, i´m one of the more critic people here for sure (so maybe an unwanted person here) but i spend 1000´s for apps and plug-ins and there comes the time where even sometimes a 10 dollar app must have something special in this saturated market. I´m the last one who doesn´t want to support developers. I often buy apps even when i just use them once. I´m not rich too.
