There's just a lot of presets where nothing happens when sliding or pressing harder but it does work in a few ones. Would be great if the more expressive presets were recognisable as such in the browser...

Most presets have slide, pressure or both configured tho effects may be subtle. Good point about making them more discoverable tho, I'll definitely be exploring this.

  • @ka010 one other iPhone SE bug, the button to activate the arp also can’t be pressed.

I have tried this on my iPad Mini now and it is a magnificent synth.

  • I think I got it figured out pretty much now.
    Great synth, @ka010 !
Getting some stuck notes every once in a while, maybe it's a little too much for my mini4?

  • Holy crap the Classic PWM preset is unbelievably gorgeous.

  • 5 star App Store review left :)

  • Gee --
    Nice nice nice synth.

  • @ka010 love this synth! Any chance Of updating it with a randomizer for some chaotic random fandom? That would make it tier 1 in my book.

My impressions after playing with the app last night, first impressions ...
The interface is just great. So accessible and the layout is logical and clean. It is like a breath of fresh air. I looked at it and just went sigh in a relaxed way.

The presets are nice. I found alot of them to be interesting (haven't been through all yet) but was perplexed a couple of times that a couple weren't different enough from each other to warrant being called a new preset - (once when next in the sequence of selection it was as if a simple tweak of a knob here, slider there equated to a new preset). Maybe it's just me and I'm missing something. Could very well be.

I did incur some stuck notes, chords with the pads. At times the "panic" button did not work to solve this.

All in all, I really like it and will dig in to it more. I can see that the developer is responsive so I trust that the issues I mentioned will be addressed by him, or by me in the case of my own inexperience.

I would recommend this, particularly now as it's 1/2 off!

  • @ka010 one more on iPhone SE (I know, I know...) — unless I’m missing something I don’t seem to have the “+” button to save a new preset? Should it be in the Browse submenu?

Here is video I did of the new on screen keyboard controller options

    That was very helpful thanks.

I wonder why scales are only allowed on the string layout. It makes sense for touchscreen MPE to have scales through and through as you will be gliding and sliding all over the place. Also welcome would be the Animoog style, click your individual notes on and off for limiting the playing surface in more detail

Well, here's the problem with a traditional layout. If you hide the keys that are out of scale you can't slide to or from them but if you don't hide them why have scales in the first place, right?
So, due to the way the keys are arranged the string layout really is the only one where I found it makes sense to apply a scale while still keeping the off scale keys around and playable (tho slightly dimmed).
Hope that makes sense. That said, if all you want is an option to hide the out of scale keys, that's certainly possible.

    It's $9,99 currently, regular is $19,99

Yeah hiding out of scale keys would be exactly it. Don’t want to slide over them. Hiding individual scale notes would be great too

  • ...where does the FM in the so called presets come from? There is no manual, is it?

  • Probably from setting the LFO to keytrack mode?

Spent some time going over the SE UI earlier today, hoping to ship an improved version after the weekend.

As for the "+" button, it is but you'll have so choose a category first in order for it to show up. It's a bit cumbersome, I know. You can expect these things to improve in the future tho.

Hmm not sure, CPU bound issues typically manifest in crackling rather then stuck notes. How did you play it, using the onscreen keys, external hardware or something different entirely?

  • Just bit on this. Sounds much fuller in "real life" than the videos I watched for some reason. This'll be fun to mess with....

  • I agree. Might be cause they were recorded with IOS record feature which record mono.

  • @ka010 hi it’s me again. :D

When using the LFO in keytrack mode, the main oscillator seems to respond to the octave switches of the sub oscillator even with the sub turned all the way down AND the osc>freq mod knob at 0. Wondering if this is a bug or due to the architecture of the synth. Thanks!

Like @JonLewis said, it's coming from the LFO which when set to 'key track' will track the frequency of the sub oscillator.

A manual is in the works, not quite ready tho.

Hmm are you sure you don't have the LFO routed anywhere, in the keys section maybe?

Generally heres how it works. If you put the LFO in 'key track' mode it'll track the frequency of the sub, not the main osc. It tracks the sub so you use it's octave and detune setting to achieve different frequency ratios when FMing the main osc.
    Hope that makes sense.
There are a couple other details like this which I'll be describing in detail in the manual.

For now, here's the block diagram:

    Hello Kai -

I got Volt based on Red Sky Lullabye's demo of the playing surfaces. These are cool features.

But I also want to let you know I am getting stuck notes too on the iPad. This is when amp is selected for slide and usually when I touch the key at the upper range. The stuck note will turn off when I deselect amp again for slide. Oddly enough sometimes when I tap the key the number of voices that the synth is currently set to then the stuck note will stop as well. Something rather specific for you.

On the iPhone the notes get stuck when selecting amp for pressure and doing 3D touch. Again it will stop when I deselect amp. On the iPhone selecting amp on slide gives no response when sliding.

The mod wheel doesn't seem to respond to amp changes when selected on either. But I just got a note stuck on the iPhone with the mod wheel with amp selected. Again deselecting it shut it off.

I hope this info is useful for you. I am not putting down the app, just making a report.

Not quite - more like a sound randomizer that randomizes all of the parameters/controls. Sometimes you get a sound, sometimes you don’t. It makes for very experimental and creative sounds that you probably wouldn’t have created otherwise. VirSyn, ApeSoft, PPG, BramBos synths, etc all have this feature and some of us get a great deal of use out of it.

    Thx!

Bought this synth a few days ago and I really like the sound and it’s layout. And the MPE thing especially.

    To second the above...

I would really like to have a scale mode that removes keys that are not in the scale. This is so useful because:

A: you don’t play notes that are out of scale
B: you can get far more octaves on just a single row of the keyboard, especially in pentatonic.

Right now this is the main thing making this less playable live than Animoog.

    Other more minor things:

With the key pressure and key slide buttons on the iPhone the second rows of buttons don’t turn red when selected. Is this a visual bug?

There’s a latch on the Arp and also a latch on the keyboard itself. They work slightly differently (the one on the keyboard itself works better because it persists even if you move the keyboard up or down).

I’ve figured out that you need to set the sensitivity on ‘slide’ to 100% otherwise you get this weird jump at the upper end of the key when sliding your finger upwards... at the point where the modulation starts to have an effect (lower down the key sliding your finger vertically seems to do nothing). This is the case with most presets I’ve tried. Although as I say, setting slide sensitivity to 100% seems to cure this. Not sure if this is a bug or not but thought I’d mention it.

  • Final request...

I don’t suppose there’s any chance of assigning the accelerometer to one or more parameters in the future is there? That’s really great for added expression.

  • +1 for scale mode

I was using the seaboard block and also using pressure to amp routing, maybe the same problem as @Laarz reported:

  • Been beta testing for a while love this synth so picked up the full package today in the sale great.

  • Anyone know how to actually save a patch? (On iPhone).

Also when I hit export (on iPhone) it instantly crashes.
