I love the simplicity of it, and it's easy to get things going. But I find it similar to Sector: Everything that goes in comes out kind of sounding the same. In the case of Egoist, I fall too easily into making showy, glitchy, skittery stuff that I find dated. How can I break out of this trap? Suggestions?

Start with everything set to default, import your sample, and build the track from there. Doug’s vids are good for explaining this.

I used to start by banging away on the randomisers, and every track I did sounded Egoist. Once I started building things up from scratch, and avoiding presets or randomisers, it sounded less generic.

Seems quite obvious when you say it, but it's so easy just to let autopilot run. Thanks for the advice. And is there word that this will/won't go AU?

Haven’t heard anything, but I wouldn’t bank on it. It’s more of a self-contained collection of drums, bass, sample player and sequencer, so wouldn’t be an obvious choice - as an fx or single synth would. Be good if it did though.

Wish the desktop versions would scale up, that’d be a welcome update.

Works REALLY well in a workflow where you create a beat in say... SeekBeats, use seekbeats to record loop, copy from seekbeats, paste into Sequential and go nuts.

You can record a chopped up loop and then chop that up and then record that and chop that up and eventually you sound like Aphex Twin. :)

    It's a pretty under-loved tool I think. And for $.99 it's a no brainer...

Yea, it's missing IAA, AU, and ABCDEFG, but it's still super-useful for synced, glitch stuff...

  • Is there much overlap between, well, a better way of putting it would be… is there a lot of commonality in usage between Egoist and a Novation Circuit, if used together?

It is IAA, and it has Link, too.
But where are you seeing it at .99?? As far as I can tell, it's $19.99 — and that's on sale! Or am I reading this incorrectly?

Regarding Sinevibes, after they recently had a shakeup of their desktop products, I messaged Artemiy regarding updating Sequential and releasing their other products as AUv3.
    He replied,

Yes, we might be coming back to iOS development in the future, with both AUv3 and standalone products. We have an improved concept for Sequential that we hope also gets implemented.

    Artemiy, Sinevibes (www.sinevibes.com)

    Positive. 👍

  • please korg, more sample tracks for egoist, and midi out for ikaossilator.... just sayin... please, just sayin.

I think if you are having straight four to the floor beats it will be more like sector- but if you have a varied drum pattern- it will chop it into different sizes- there is the sensitivity to play with as well.

It’s Sequential that’s .99 not Egoist- see link at top of post.

I missed that entirely. Will check it out.

    SugarBytes is the Egoist developer

  • lol that's right.... it's all becoming a blur

Lol..or did you fall asleep with the TV tuned to Bloomberg and subliminally heard about an acquistion/merger?

  • :D more like a frustration merger.... think I'm gonna put all my chips on Gestrument pro for the time being as far as ikaossilator midi fantasies go. Don't watch reruns of 12 monkeys and browse the ab forum at the same time it's dangerous

  • @Drümünkey thanks for Sequential, just bought it ! :)

  • Really like this - Can parts/sample be played manually i.e like a drum machine? If not it would be an added bonus.

Yes. In keyboard mode. Midi map.

Yes, but it would be like having a giant choke group. You can have different samples loaded on the different patterns but it's monophonic for lack of a better word. Unless you have all your different hits on one sample loaded in one pattern...i think you can trigger more than one note simultaneously in keyboard mode from the same pattern...i think.

That interface!! I freaking love it! Trying real hard to be good with money right now, so I won’t be back to be further tempted by this thread, but it’s so awesomely cool I had to say something.

Buy it, you won’t regret it.

I don’t use it much, but every time I do I wonder why I don’t.

  • Egoist is a thing of beauty. If I could have only one app on my iPad it would be that one. It’s just such fun for a mess around yet, as mentioned before, you can make a whole song. It’s simplistic but, at the same time, can be used in so many ways. And the UI is probably my favourite. Sugar Bytes UIs can be a bit Marmite, but I love it.

  • It can be used for whole tracks, this one is only egoist:

Ok cool I will check that out.

  • I plan to use Egoist like an MPC or drum machine/Bm3 where I trigger and sequence the slices manually Is there a way I can do this I looked in the manual Check screenshot is this how i would do this?

  • For those of you just starting your journey with Egoist: someday you will discover the randomize button in the effects sequencer and you will feel the infatuation phase start all over again.
