  • I need to stop reading these threads — costing me too much money. I ended up getting Egoist tonight. Easy to get into at once. Tremendous fun. I haven’t even gotten past one sample from a Mike Huckaby yet. I wish this had been my first app!

I’m hooked. The possibilities for this in my workflow are staggering.

  • oceansinspace,
This accompanied our preparing tonight’s taco dinner. Great stuff. My wife made me stop while we ate though. Thanks for posting it.

  • To put it quite simply:

Sugar Bytes, are one of my favourite developers for iOS!

@AudioGus mr gus. Great video again. Do you have to be careful in what sample you choose to egoist. Do certain sounds grooves songs etc work better to be spliced than others. I’ve tried quite ‘busy’ samples and they just end up quite chaotic and unuseable ?
Also from your video I realise that you do have to do a lot of fine tuning yourself. I think I was just randomising or at least replacing prebuilt presets with new samples and hoping for the best but it doesn’t seem like that works the best ?

Thank you universe. For the most part I do like using single hit samples that I have stacked end to end but will occasionally do an acapella or break in a track. One feature that was introduced not too long ago is the ‘monophonic slicer’ which essentially ensures your sample slice does not overrun into the next triggered slice. This was the biggest game changer for me in the app....

The end to end sample stack is a cool idea, thanks!
I realized MTS is a perfect in-device tool to make a stack, its audio editor and direct implementation of AudioShare/Audiocopy make it easy to build a custom track file of select clips and hits...fun!

If poss can you explain or upload a video how you trigger&sequence samples in one shot mode Thanks in advance

  • Can the 16 slice option be turned off or can you choose slice amounts/ slice manually where you choose or does Egoist only have 16 auto slice option?

Sure, the default is transient detection with the number of slices determined by sensitivity. Easy enough to manually move the slice markers around. It's quite intuitive.

This is Sugarbytes own rundown on the Slicer functions (way better than anything I could put together)

  • My slices don’t appear to be playing back the way I expect and hope. If I have a long slice at position one - and have say 2- 16 all muted the sample seems to fade. It sounds nothing like it does when you tap the sample waveform on the window- that seems louder- and it plays all the way through.
What I mean is my longer sections don’t seem to be sounding as crisp and clear as they eg in blocs wave when randomising sections.
    Any ideas?

Adjust the attack enevwlopes and lengths of the samples and also check the effects settings

  • Egotist AU confirmed and in the pipeline.

Need to go and buy some towel wipes to wipe up the dribble I’m currently drooling.

When I saw Beathawk go AUv3, I knew there were hardly any limits (if any).. apart from maybe hosting an Auv3 within an AUv3, and even that is just Apples limitations/limiting, (I guess), and will most likely happen, if Apple sees there is a need..

    Nothing (no-thing) is impossible!

  • @mAxjUlien Do you have Turnado? To me, Egoist and Turnado go together like peanut butter and jelly... I was thinking last night that I'll be happy when Egoist goes AU for several reasons already mentioned--but another key one is the ability to automate the AU parameters in Turnado (including Dictator). The Egoist effect sequencer is aces, but you run out of creative headroom after a while (as @MonzoPro has asserted, "everything starts sounding like Egoist"). Having Egoist and Turnado as AU options will allow us to sync up the Turnado effects via automation very easily. These are the days of wine and honey!

  • When I use ego in b3 though I’m finding that the patterns are constantly changing without me doing anything. I guess it’s receiving some kind of midi info even though there isn’t a midi pattern on the b3 track. I have turned off ‘all midi routed to pad’ in b3 and also turned off all the connections to ego, but the patterns are still changing ?

Anticipating that it’s creator Sugarbytes will be updating it with AU, I decided to give it another go and somehow this time, I totally get it.

Brilliant news. Allow me to Ego-trip a bit guys :# ... I actually started this thread alerting to this being inevitable before my man @universe hunted down this welcome confirmation. Not exactly clairvoyance on my part...SugarBytes has firmly stated AU was the wave as they commenced and continue to update all of their apps.

I haven’t gotten Cyclops but it looks compelling. Anyone having fun pairing Egoist and Cyclops? @AudioGus if you have it...you know what ya gotta do right?lol

Heh, I do have it... being an AU it works pretty well in BM3 and seems to automate alrighty enough. I never did get too deep with it but made some interesting noises. Mayhaps a video... ...so hot here today...zzzz...

All weirdo noises or can you get to something musical relatively easily? I’m not even close to a sound designer. Prefer to preset hunt than tweak.

I am pretty much erasing my pre-AU impressions and starting from scratch. Automation is making this a whole new ballgame for me, whoot!

I dont really find it to be a preset haven but rewards noodeling. I feel like I am about a million miles from ever making a quality anything from an init patch though.
