  • Hey @AudioGus do you know why in b3 different patterns are triggered in egoist even with no midi patterns in the b3 track. I think it may have something to do with having to switch off the midi connections to egoist in b3. But every time you open the session it defaults to having the connections again. If that makes sense ?

Check your midi out settings. Turn off Egoist in the midi out and see if it fixes things.

Thanks yes that’s what I did but when I reopen the session the midi out connections are back again each time for some reason.

Strange, I was just using Bm3 to intentionaly trigger pattern changes yesterday and did not have any issue with phantom midi.

Is it possible there is an iaa tucked away in a bank that may be sending something?

Do you maybe have External Clock and Host Start selected? Having Host Start selected would cause Egoist to start playing when you press play in BM3.

Can the 16 slice option be turned off or can you choose slice amounts/ slice manually where you choose or does Egoist only have 16 auto slice option?

Sure, the default is transient detection with the number of slices determined by sensitivity. Easy enough to manually move the slice markers around. It's quite intuitive.

@mAxjUlien @lukesleepwalker cheers for info and then Do i tap on the waveform to play the samples? Also how do I turn off the transient detection? Thanks in advance for any info

Not trying to duck your question but the video from SB posted earlier in the thread is very complete in terms of showing how the sampler works.

  • @wim @AudioGus the only thing that seems to stop different egoist patterns from being triggered In BM3 is by turning off the two egoists audio bus connections as in the photo below.

I have no idea what these connections do but they appear every time egoist loads and if I turn them off and reopen the session they automatically turn on again which is a little annoying

No which is why I am confused where this is coming from and what it actually is ?

Have you restarted your ipad recently? Maybe needs a good flush?

It looks like you may have run Egoist as a midi device in Audiobus at one point and it is stuck in there... ?

    Woah... huh...

  • I'd contact Sugar Bytes about that MIDI out issue. That descriptor that includes AudioBus looks to be something that a developer would use and I'm not sure it's a clue to what's going wrong with your use case.

once they AU Egoist it will go away. ;)

  • @lukesleepwalker yeah agreed though as @AudioGus has said it’s probablt just worth waiting for the AU which fingers crossed will be soon

  • Was just thinking, how amazing would it be if SB made egoist universal with file app support so you could continue the immense creative fun literally anywhere as opposed to almost anywhere with the iPad.

  • You never directly answered whether or not you disabled Host Start as I indicated below. I too get the “Audiobus” ports but I do not have to disable them. I can 100% reproduce what you describe by enabling Host Start. I have a strong hunch that’s your problem.

Although it’s brill, wasn’t using egoist much, deleted it a good while ago. Was/I'm able to get a similar outcome using ReSlice, and others.. just needed less options really, and au.

I’m sure I will redownload it back onto my pad once it’s AU<3, and play..

I know mr Goodyear I did feel slightly guilty saying that on an audiobus forum but hey my workflow hasn’t warranted it, though I still respect what the guys have and are doing for iOS music.

  • @wim you are the boss! Thanks for coming back to help me out. I got lost in the message threads and forgot to respond. I had messed with the internal external settings before but didn’t seem to help. But I tried again and have now set midi to external host and controlling pattern changes via midi in bm3. I went back to the manual - c1 triggers pattern 1 etc. And it all works smoothly and brilliantly now. Agh this thing is sooo good.

Yes, yes, I’m sure the 5 part video tuts are fabulous, but when you have it mostly down and just need an answer to one question, it takes too much time to watch a half hour of videos just to find an answer to a discrete question. I went to YT to look at the videos, and there’s no description of what’s addressed in each. Fortunately there’s a manual. UNFORTUNATELY there are teeny-tiny little itty-bitty details missing that can make all the difference.

I read the manual section on MIDI Program Changes. That’s what I want to do. Here’s what it says:

    MIDI
Egoist can receive MIDI from any source (incl. virtual
    MIDI).
    MIDI Program Change
All presets in the MIDI Programs Folder can be called
    with MIDI Program Change messages.
Press “Copy to MIDI Programs” at the bottom of the
Preset Browser and select the presets you want to
copy. Confirm by pressing “Copy to MIDI Programs”
again. Now you should see the presets in “MIDI
    Programs”.

    MIDI Learn

Double-press any control button to assign incoming MIDI CCs (MIDI clear to delete the assignment).
MIDI-CC assignments will not be saved or changed with the presets.

    =====

The little piece of missing information is what program numbers are assigned to presets that are added to MIDI Programs. I have a preset in the MIDI Programs folder, and it’s the only one. I’ve sent a PC0 and a PC1 to Egoist from Xequence (both directly and through Midiflow), and the preset doesn’t change. There’s no information about the format of the PC either. Is it MSB or LSB? I have a fair amount of experience sending PCs to synths from Xequence, so I think I have everything set up right. If anyone has made this work, I’d appreciate some feedback. I’ll keep on trying a few things and if I find the answer I’ll post back.

In the meantime, I did a quick review of the 5 vids. The fifth one talks about the Settings window. Right off, the video is obviously using a different version of Egoist, because the panel shown does not have MIDI settings. So the video is no help.

+1 for watching vs reading. The SugarBytes videos on YouTube and the tips/vids dropped off by @AudioGus should illuminate the main feature set. You’ll find your own workflow or “voice” within this intuitive piece of gear.

To answer your question you can “play” samples by tapping wav forms but imo that’s just to audition slices although it lends to many workflow options if using AB/AUM to send the audio into another app/daw.

I lean in the other direction on vids vs manuals. I’m having a problem with Program Changes, and I’ve already got a pretty good handle on the “main feature set”. Vid#5 talks about the Settings Panel, but right off the panel in the vid doesn’t have midi settings. If I hadn’t seen that up front, I could have watched the whole vid with no joy. On the other hand, the manual doesn’t have the specifics about the Program Change itself, only how to make a preset eligible for Program Change.
