There is so much potential here.

Much of which we have yet to see realised. Patience is a virtue, but it would be nice to have a few smaller updates/ IAP's while the bigger stuff is brewing. What's the schedule, Skram developers?

    Hey Nathan.

Pretty close to sharing some concrete news with you.

We have some exciting new additions on the way, including some (but not all... yet!) of the suggestions/requests from this thread. It may take the form of two smaller updates or one bigger one. The deciding factor isn't to meet a preconceived schedule but just logistical/practicality factors. Whichever it is, it's coming soon - as soon as it's ready we'll be hitting submit :)

Once the update is imminent will let you all know.

    Thanks again!

  • Here's a little glimpse of one of the new features being tested on a rather fine new mixer last night...

  • Bated breath but patient etc.

  • Is there no chance of universalizing (like for 6s+ and further)?

  • Awesome app! Please add midi learn and bluetooth midi! Then it will be a great app for live jamming

now if you are a musician who just doesn't like sampling, sample slicing, or sample mangling then I can understand that as there are all kinds of musicians, some love sampling, some hate it and everything in-between... but if the dev doesn't have anything against sampling then what can i tell you. I like it, so I'm interested.

Musical techniques are like my children. I love 'em all. ;)

@liine_nick I'm on 9.1, so not sure to what extent multi-tasking is truly multi-tasking, but yes, I did have a few apps "in front of it," with my session still open in the background. Like Facebook and Mail, probably.

20 minutes later, I pulled it back up front, saw the screen do a quick refresh, saw the BPM was back to 120 and already knew what had happened. Facepalm.

The app was not actively playing. I didn't realize that might be essential. But if it's that easy to lose your song, I'd argue that auto-save of the latest tune would be an essential feature needed. We all get called away from our sacred tablets from time to time :sunglasses:

Thank you for the quick response. I like Skram, but I don't like the pressure to arrange and record what I've got on the spot or risk losing it. Frustrating, as I'm sure you can understand. Aside from being called away, I also often prefer to step away, come back to things and then commit to a "performance."

    Looking forward to further developments!

ok, gotcha. what happened is the operating system killed the app, and because there ISN'T an explicit save mechanism, when you returned to Skram it was essentially a new session. we've been working on a save/restore infrastructure, which has implications for a large number of features, of course saving the state of the current session will be one of the first things to benefit from this. thanks for the info, that helps a lot.

I am sure someone else has mentioned this but it would be great to have the pattern switching duplicated on the main widget panel. Here is a quick UI mockup, not as pretty but would really enhance performance options and allow for more nuance in playing.

I know I already thought it but I can't remember if I said out loud so I will write it down(again?).
It would be great to be able to edit patterns "offline" and @AudioGus idea merries perfectly using the main view as pattern switch and the actual pattern view as a editor. This would cut the need of more than two patterns.

That's a cool idea regarding accessing patterns from the Devices view.

Hadn't thought of separating EDIT and PLAY modes. That's a cool idea, but I will tread very carefully as immediacy is threatened by any programming/editing approaches that are not 100% realtime. Gimme some time to digest this thread and let's keep the conversation going, as always... :)

Okay, I’ll bite (redownload) I’m a sucker for app revivals...

  • Don’t forget to save!
    Oh yeah.
    Right.

....been two and a half years since we saw @liine_nick around these parts...

  • I actually dug out this app for a play recently. It had a lot of potential but really needed a series of updates that it never received in order to achieve the vision that it set out for itself.

  • Here’s an odd thing, last movement here was 2016, but if you watch the full credits the last card says copy right 2018...

The fun here fits a use case of live jam, live record, export track....or live jam into recording host via IAA...or live jam standalone...

  • Cranked this up on a business trip a couple of weeks ago and had a bit of fun myself. Forgot how good it sounds or the quality of the patterns you can quickly create. But no saving just completely sucks. The whole experience is kind of like kissing your sister.

Funny isn't it? I curse them for leaving their broken child mostly dead by the side of the road, but it makes me value the odd basslines I squeeze out of it into perfect AUM loops, always expecting this next one to be the last....

It was so close. Just gave it another try. Now it glitches when tweaking and tempo gets whacky. Oh well... :'(
