Hello Qmishery ... If you like Musique Concrete stuff, check out the link to the Waverails app on the Matrixsynth.com website. https://www.matrixsynth.com/2016/08/waverails-for-ipad.html. But don't let the Youtube example video put you off. Just download it and try the examples. It's free to try but full patch editing and save functionality require an in-app purchase of $5.99. Best is to load AudioShare into AUM or Audiobus and use Waverails as effect. And take a spoken text example to hear the best result.
@Qmishery Model 15 is smoother to navigate than it seems. It’s quite surprising. On iPad (air 2 - 9.7inch - here) once you get used to combining the different navigation gestures (not just pinch and two finger “move”, but also the scroll bar on the side) it’s easy to forget that you’re not seeing the whole panel at once.
Agreed with @Silvertip about waverails for tape techniques, at least as far as the way it allows you to restructure material.
@Silvertip
Oh, thanks! I heard of that app, but totally forgot about when was taking a break from music making
@ohwell
Hm, that sounds promising.
p.s.
And what can you suggest for "weird" sequencing? I can't get rozeta suite, i know.. i've got Senode and Axon 2 though, but havent spend time with them yet.
@Qmishery Hmm, for more generative/semi aleatory sequencing, I mostly use Rosetta. But patterning 2 (I’ve only used the 2 version) is really powerful for crafting controlled complex patterns.
@ohwell
but thanks for reminding, now it goes to future consideration "when i finally upgrade"
I have bad luck, my ios is 10.2 and patterning 2 (i have first one though) needs 10.3, same with new electribe
Btw i noticed that Mixtikl is mutated into Wotja
...i still wish someone would make a successor (like TC-11 is true successor to noise.io in its philosophy) to Hexatone. One of my fave apps from early ios days. I never seen anything similar in software or hardware in terms how it works (MAYBE you can slightly compare it to tenori on variations? though)
You basically have a hexagonal grid, and 6 samples that move on that grid. You make up your own structure of that field, decided which sample can go where, and place modificator on certain grid elements (that either influence motion of sample, or do effect or smth), and sound triggers of course.
Senode somehow reminded me of it, though (which i got in hope i can do polymeter/polyrhyhm or even folk stuff like persian grooves or indonesian gamelan? i lack knowledge how to compose them though)!
https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/22342/senode-graphical-step-sequencer/p1
I’m curious about the experimental sequencers in the hexatone vein people like. Not sure what’s good either!
I have been already using Auxy, Caustic3, Audio Evolution, n-track9, Zeeon (with Synthwave presets), Animoog, DM1, AB and AudioShare on my iPhone but I wanted to make more on my iPad. I am into synthwave so the only reason for all my purchases is to make synthwave
So here what I come up on Black Friday;
Cubasis 2 Because it is Cubasis
Xequence
SMPlayer IAP analog presets
Groovebox IAP unlock
Unique
Volt
DRC all IAP
Phosphor 2
AudioKit D1
Syntronik Deluxe
Korg Gadget
iMono/Poly
Arp Odyssei
iM1
AU FX;
Discord4
VC-1
RE-1
Woodpressor
ADverb2
I was expecting Sensual Sax would be on sale but no luck with that. Also still need to get cartriges for iM1. I wanted to get iPolysix too but it doesnt have support for Gadget so I decided to wait. Also seems Arturia had no BF sale I was after their apps too, disappointment...
I didnt go crazy on fx apps because I plan to mix and master my creations on my pc. Thats why I didnt consider Filtatron even for the price
I think after getting Arturia apps, Sensual Sax app and iM1 IAP I wont need anything else to make synthwave. I am not interested in Moog apps for now as I have Syntronik now and I’m not good at programming my own sounds. Syntronik presets would work fine right now. Now I have to go for a preset hunt on AU synths I got.
Wrong thread my bad.
Yeah theres some other good weird ones, most are on sale i think:
soundscaper
synthscaper
moebius lab
seaquence
senode
hexaglyphics
axon2
patterning 2
But I also agree with @tomato_juice that its better to acquire them more gradually to get deeper understanding of each.
I passed on everything last year, was to OSX focused. Wanted to work on some more complex sounds and such and remembered that I have about 90% more in effects, synths, etc. on my iPad so back I came. I am primarily a guitar played but I use synths to fill out the other tracks. Would love to be able to do EDMish stuff as well, buy don't seem to have the knack for it.
I got the OSX THM Overloud TH3 earlier this year have been dying to get the THM plugin for Auria as well so I did as soon as it went on sale. It crashed instantly, as expected I soon found out after after a little research. I was so disappointed that I just had to buy all the Auria Fabfilter plugins ROFL. Ouch, so much for my CME keyboard this Christmas,
Also added a few synths (nearing that elusive 100 synths milestone SMH) and some effects I done have that looked interesting for guitar.
Got Mood since I can use it as an AU in Auria.
Got Phasemaker so I had a nice FM synth I can use in Auria.
Finally picked up Zeeon just because its so popular and I've been wanting to try it out.
Bassalicious followed me home from the app store.
Got DRC as well, but can't remember why.
Don't have AUM, but I'm happy with audiobus or Auria for all I do, but ApeMatrix was cheap so I got ti instead and its simple and fun. I am not sure I'll use it for anything serious since I am pretty comfortable with Auria.
Got Moebius Lab as it looked like something I can use with a guitar.
Have not got it yet, but I probably get Brusfri, whoops, just mentioning it just made me buy it now., darn it.
That's it I'm really done and refuse to update this post or post again in this thread with a new purchase!
Ok so it’s not just me. iPad 2017, iOS 11.
Clicking on my Air2 as wel, was hoping it was temporary
I just looked into the TC Apps:
TC-Performer Free
TC-11 on Sales $5.99 normally $24.99
TC-DATA on Sale $5.99 normally $19.99
Check out TC-Performer and play for free
or watch the Videos for TC-11 to see how this approach sounds.
This unusual Touch Control (TC) ipad/iphone screen interface creates some really interesting events with MIDI, CC's etc.
I hooked up TC-Data to several Synths in AUM and add extra FX.
Magical! Shoom is a good synth for this because it has a lot of microtonal features so it sound different from typical synth weirdness.
This is the kind of musical interface you'd use with someone very young or who's taken special mind-preparing herbs. Headphones on a fairly low setting recommended.
TC-11 was something that reminded me again how much i love when developer takes approach of using touchscreen possibilities in other way than just remaking hardware synth.
This might be the much discussed on release, voice stealing. You can adjust the envelopes to minimise it and increase voice count to the max amount. I hope we get 12 voices like the desktop one day.
Here are apps I buyed, some were not on sales:
Korg Electribe Wave: didn’t liked the workflow, will get a refund.
Audio Damage Phase 3: Nice, keep it
Woodpressor: Nice to have in toolbox with DDMF NYC and Maxima
Woodulator: nothing special, I prefer Dubstation 2, Discord 4 and Kosmonaut. Will get a refund.
Electrogene: Nice, keep it even if it was not on sale.
Ruismaker Noir: not on sale, very cool and I can record seq output in GB easily.
BeatHawk Mellotron iap: cool, even if some processing is need as samples presets are really RAW. Still better than Mellowtron which is still buggy with midi in and works as AU.
Excellent, McD!
Plus, a Gold Star Award for helping to fight GANUS (Gear Acquired and Never Used Syndrome) with a Black Friday showcase track!
+1 and I still can't believe no dev has made a sampler or beat machine with an tc like ui and they say there's no money to be made on iOS but me thinks there's still allot of gold in them there hills
My finger keeps hovering and then backing away on the R-r-r-ravenscroft 275 piano for $17.99 (normally $35.99)... Why can’t I take the plunge? Hmmmm... hem-haw..
I'm going to frame this since I really appreciate the quality and production values of your work.
I have taken up the habit of setting something up and hitting record and uploading to SoundCloud. Then I listen to the SoundCloud playlist and listen to my progress.
Last night I took my new toys:
iBassist $9!
Funk Drummer (standard price but worth every penny)
Afro Latin Drum Machine (gotta have a the percussionist too)
and LINK'ed them into AudioBus3 (for TRANSPORT CONTROLS) and output into AUM.
Then I took a cast off toy that I re-installed on an extra iPhone5S:
the 20GB Collossus Dark Brown Grand (and EP's) I had deleted to buy more stuff. I connected to the iPhone 5S with a Yamaha BT-MT01 from my Casio PX-560 which serves as my audio Amp too for dual headphones out. I route the Audio Outs of the PreSonus into the Line Ins on the PX-560. This was the moment when I confirmed that only 1 IOS device can connect via BlueTooth to a controller at a time. (I need to ask for a solution for using multiple IOS devices together... iConnect 4+?)
I ran the iPhone 5S into the an audio channel on my Presonus USB Interface into my 2018 iPad on another AUM Channel and moved all channels into SubChannel A and A into the output and turned on record.
Now... AUM won't start the LINK'ed Lumbeats apps so I hit record in the AudioBus Transport and then back to AUM and started playing an improvised 12 Bar Blues with my new "Band Mates". Then fade the "A" Channal and hit Stop for the AUM recorder.
Open the recording(s) in Grand Finale and select the best sounding preset mix and process. Sent the result back into AudioShare and upload into SoundCloud and go to bed listening to my 2 takes.
In a year I'll appreciate knowing where I was last Black Friday and what the investment yielded. The serious investment is actually on the hardware and the Apps... It's the remaining time I could be using to other purposes while I'm healthy and cognizant. The thing I'm trying to perfect isn't the music... It's still me. Work in Progress. I can get more money... but the time is finite, if indeterminate.
So when I was reducing voices to lighten the load it may have been increasing the problem after all lol.. Will try increasing.
ended up buying all the iceworks synths. Oops. They’re all really good and super easy to learn.
Tempted by Kronecker, it’s the only one I haven’t got.
That was one of my splurges because it's just so DIFFERENT. It's a little intimidating, though. Jakob Haq did a good review of it awhile back. I'm focusing on non-iOS stuff for a few months, but definitely plan to come back to this one (and probably tinker now and then between).
Totally worth it if you like string pluck sounds with a great sounding delay type effect. It’s also 11.99 usually I believe down to 5.99
I’ve already composed the start of a song using 3 instances of it in stagelight. It’s so inspirational.
It’s very different, just watching the vids now.
Was it as much as that? Hmmm...think I need to make my mind up quick...
Update: bugger, missed it. He who hesitates etc.
