  • Let me see if I understand. When you copy a note or notes, it copes them relative to the bar line that precedes the first note of the selection not relative to the song pointer. When it pastes, it pastes relative to the song pointer.

Yes, exactly. See also the edit I just made. It’s kinda “genius” how it works, you just have to get it :D ;) :anguished:

  • Genius.
    Indeed!!!
    B)

  • @espiegel123 btw, regarding "extending a part at the beginning": the easiest way to do this currently is to just draw a part before the one you would like to extend, and then join the two.

  • Is there a way to do this on one track if the existing part is preceded by a part? Or do I need to temporarily create a new track to do this on.

For example, I have Part1 and Part2 which were created by splitting an extended section. Part1 has a note at the end that is a pickup note that I want to move into Part2. Essentially I want to extend Part2's beginning without moving any of its notes and copy/paste the "pickup" note(s) from Part1 into Part2.

I can see how I could do this by temporarily creating a second track. Is there a way to do it without doing that? Maybe it would be obvious if I had my iPad handy (but I don't).

    Thanks for all your help.

No need for another track. Just select the draw (pencil) tool in the timeline view, draw in the new pattern where you need it, turn off the draw tool (important), and double-tap the new pattern to edit it.

  • @wim: is there a trick to reliably getting a new part penciled when trying to add it where a part already exists? Sometimes I am managing to get one drawn by tapping just below the part, but sometimes I end up deleting the part on top of which I am trying draw.

    If that made sense.

I just nudge it out the the way to the right or the left, then move it back. No need to create a separate track. But be sure the pencil icon is disabled when you do it or you'll delete the clip when you touch it. Thank goodness for the undo button. :#

  • @wim: thanks for the tips

That's an interesting question. I guess it would make sense if Xequence actually noticed that you're dragging on top of an existing part and not tapping, and in that case letting you draw. I've just added that to the list :)

    (mind the German bits!)

For now, there's a slightly clunky alternative: Place the song position pointer one bar before the part whose beginning you want to extend, then tap "+" and under "Insert", choose "Empty part". The empty part will probably not be 1 bar long, but as long as it's shorter than the part you want to extend, that doesn't matter. Just select both parts and then "Join".

An update is in the works! Would you mind posting a screenshot of what Xequence currently looks like on your 11" Pro? I have the simulator for testing here but it's always good to see it on a real-world device. Thanks!

New user here. Amazing tool, and loving the light color scheme!

Could someone recommend me a lightweight-ish sample player for triggering drums from Xequence? I only need the ability to load ~12 custom samples at any given time (no layering), adjust their volume and maybe trim their length. Further tweaking abilities would be welcome but are not needed at all.

    Is Beat-Machine still free?

  • @SevenSystems Thanks for the new split options!

That is a great tip 👍

Would it be possible to add a sysex editor ?

  • Ohoy @SevenSystems I just purchased a couple of the IAP's, most notably Polyhymnia (and also multi track recording, already had the unlimited tracks one). Loving it, and the app in general. When it comes to Polyhymnia, is it possible to have the generated sequence "evolve" for each repeat? A bit like Riffer I guess (so I could just use that I guess, but hey), it would be an interesting thing to do, and I'm currently comparing all the note generators in general in any case, so figured I at least should ask. :)

@SevenSystems do you think it would be difficult to add a press to drag feature when we want to move selections back and forth or between tracks around in the track canvas? I find it kind of cumbersome (I am a developer so I am lazy) to have to use the buttons at the bottom for this purpose. Auria does it very well for example. Thanks.

Hi, and thanks for the praise :) There's no specific option for getting evolving stuff in PolyHymnia (off the top of my head, the longest period an operator can go is 2 bars); however, by creatively combining several operators with different periods, you would be able to achieve some more evolving output.

Sorry, the handles are engrained in the basic UI concept for the app, that's not going to change for now...

    That sounds promising. :)
Not that I mind doing trial-and-error, but is there a manual, or a description for what the different things/buttons/settings do on the Polyhymnia settings pages? It might be quicker than trial-and-error. :)

    Ha, same time as Yowza.

    Polyhymnia is great.

What I do like is that you can shuffle/randomise individual aspects (tabs) of the notes.

Say you like the rhythm that has been generated, but not the notes, you can shuffle just the pitch tab that will keep the rhythm and randomise the notes.

And vice versa. This is possible on each of the tabs, Length/ distance/ velocity etc.

Certainly... do you have any examples of what you would like to see, or an existing editor that you think is a good reference?
