I just have to say: no! The clap is fundamental and has been around for so long for a good reason. Now if you’re happy and you know it...
Working currently on patch bank for Nanostudio 2 Obsidian .. based on this thread, i added also Clap preset !
Like all sounds, subjective. I hardly use it but sometimes it fits nice. And an 808 clap is iconic, as are all it’s other sounds. Only one that really bothers me is the cowbell.
Just posted something related to this, opinions on ‘best’ sounds from drum machines: https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/30518/best-sounds-from-each-drum-machine#latest
The hand clap still beats the thigh clap.
In the 90s even though I had an actual 808, I far preferred actually clapping my hands and recording that throughout an entire track. I also used to record breaths and slight grunts, almost but not quite inaudible (not overt and blatant, like Dave Stewart on Eurythmics “Love Is A Stranger”).
Oi...was thinking about you OP, as I sat for 4 hours for a tattoo today, how many bad radio songs had the same clap sound.
Hey I love all the overused claps and snaps haha! Any iOS apps that are particularly good for getting one’s clap on? Talk about hijacking a thread lol 😆
“At the car wash...!” 🎼👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
DM1 has a good selection of the best classic drum machines.
I managed to get a decent clap sound in a large natural alcove, if you’d rather have a “cave clap” sound. Thanks to AudioShare it was quick to record and I have 3 distances.
my buddy Toast begs to differ...
Thanks for the tips and ideas, y’all. I might just have to try out FieldScaper and go forage for my new claps and snaps in the wild. It definitely gets boring when the same sound is used over and over again. I’m no French Toast though so we’ll see how this goes 😂
As the OP I will say there's nothing wrong with hand claps per se, I just get tired of it almost always being the usual Roland sound. Make your own claps? Nothing wrong with that!
