Yes it is, although we are aware that some parts could be elaborated still.

Hey all - for those comparing the Lumbeat apps to DPP: I use them together all the time. I used Funk Drummer to play a kit in DPP because I don't like the drum sounds in FD. Sometimes I'll play a record a beat with my BopPad and then program FD to play the same beat so I can cut in the fills that FD inevitably plays better than I do. Record them all into Cubasis and I can capture either the MIDI, the audio or both.

There's a ton of cool ways to use these apps together to get some really fantastic drums parts.

So perhaps in the next month or two? (Elaborated)……… Also some new videos?

    Are the IAPs on sale?

I don’t think so. Do you find them high priced?

I was asking as I just purchased DPP3 and am not sure yet if I will use IAPs but wanted to know if I would be missing out on special pricing by waiting since the prices seem quite reasonable. I didn’t know if that was the normal price.

I was wondering if they were on sale, too.
Mainly because the prices are really good, and I thought maybe they are normally priced higher.

I just started using this on an Air2. I haven’t done a whole lot yet, but it runs smoothly for me so far.

In the meantime, the QuickStart guide (accessible via the DrumPerfect icon in the top right) contains quite some info on the new features as well. Did you check that one already?

  • @Marinus : Not yet, I just downloaded it.. Will do, Marinus.. Thanks

    Looking forward to exploring this!

  • @Gilbert and @Marinus, first of all, thanks again for this great update!

Two small suggestions for the AU player. A playback position indicator, and a song repeat (loop) function would be great.

  • @Marinus said:

I realize that isn’t what DPP is focused on, but a ‘Jam mode’ for that use case would make DPP a no-brainer for many people that are on-the-fence about what drum app to get.

Just as an example of the current JAM mode in DPP:

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/iowwrl2rlzeudsc/exampleJAM.wav?dl=0

It's a very simple rhythm, but decorated with some probability strokes on kick, snare and hi-hat and a single Linked Set with the tom strokes+crash (also probability strokes), which is played every 4 bars. The demo is a single 4/4 pattern played a number of times while gradually sliding the JAM! slider from left to right. Two effects: there are three levels of dynamics which remap some of the instruments (programmable) and the probabilities are globally scaled up by the JAM! slider (higher intensity).

Are there any patterns set up already to respond to the JAM Slider. I am a total noob and none of the patterns I have tried respond to the JAM! slider which I am taking to mean that I need to customize the patterns to respond to it, is that the case? Or are there patterns/songs pre-set up to respond to it?

Plenty of them in the new packs. GM1 and BR2. Any pattern where the JAM! Button is highlighted. Check GM1 Patbank 64.

    Thanks.
    For the suggestions too.
You can loop a song by switching Loop button ( red ) before exporting. It will loop in the player. However I agree that a button in the player would be handy. From my understanding the player only “read” the data programed in DPP, not write/change any data. Its why it is just called a player. And is free.

Thx. It would great if there were a tutorial about turning non-jammable patterns into jammable ones. Would love to do this with some jazz and funk grooves.

Good suggestion. We call the patterns with JAM! , Layers and Linked sets => Smart patterns. To be honest I have barely scratched the surface, since these features are still new. But I believe that by mastering all the features related to patterns, it is possible to transform a pattern in a kind of generative, improvised song with fills, still based on a given groove.

  • Is there any way to delete presets from the AU player?

  • @Gilbert thanks for the loop tip. That really helps

  • edited March 2019

More information on DP AUv3 Player, from Marinus. To clarify things.

“The AUv3 player is not meant as a plugin replacement for DPP, but as an easy way to play DPP-created songs in any AUv3-compatible host. The advantage of that is that the AUv3-plugin is less cpu-heavy than DPP in IAA-mode and that multiple instances can be used at the same time.

Therefore, it’s only UI requirement is to import song packs exported from DPP. The imported songs will appear as AUv3 Presets in a list. That way it will e.g. be easy to do a live performance with a prepared song list. The preset selection can even be done via a midi CC (“very longpress” on the Import button will let you assign the midi CC number), i.e. the first 128 items in the Preset list can be addressed via this midi CC.

The easiest way to use the player is to first create a backup archive in DPP (Settings view -> Backup), save to a chosen external location, and import the archive via the Import button in the AUv3 player. After a few seconds the AUv3 Preset list will have been populated with the songs from the archive, ready to be played in any AUv3-host that supports song pointer and transport control.

So, in conclusion: the player is a complementary tool, purely meant to facilitate the synchronized playback of DPP songs in a host. “

Two small suggestions for the AU player. A playback position indicator, and a song repeat (loop) function would be great.

About the playback position indicator. In most hosts it exists already. In AUM for example if you swipe under the transport commands ( play, rewind ) it will move the locator to any place. You can then make DP Player start from any bar and even, when it is playing, forward or rewind. Works great in Cubasis too, specially if you loop ( Cubasis ) anywhere sections of the song.

@Gilbert I’ll be honest, it is an unusual update (not going full AU app upgrade) but I am guessing it was an achievable compromise and it is a very welcome one. It is enough to really bring DPP back into my workflow. Purchased the new IAP as well. Will def have use for that.

Humm... host position indicator wasn’t what I had in mind. I’d rather know how far into the song inside the player I am. For instance, if it’s a 16 bar looping song, it would be nice to see how close to the loop end the playback is. I could be recording a 64 bar self-indulgent guitar wank over that loop.

But, no big deal. I’m super stoked to have it as it is.

Longpress Import will let you clear presets before import.

  • Does this app has start stop link feature? It would be great to play in AUM with the player as auv3 if the new link would be working

It follows the host’s transport. AUM will have Link Start/stop soon. It’s already in beta.

  • @Gilbert How do you get into the jam dynamics page as show in the quick start I presses quite a few buttons and not seeing it come up ?

    Longpress JAM! button

  • @Gilbert : just one person’s perspective here. Clearly, DPP is the tool for someone composing drum tracks — especially if they understand drums and their function. One of the things about LUMBeats’ SoftDrummer (and their other drum apps, though I only have experience with SoftDrummer) is that it is very easy to get a groove up and running and setting it up so that it varies itself in a musical way while maintaining the groove. The fills and ‘intensity’ are very drummer like. I’ve used it to record jams as I work tunes out, and it is a great experience. I think that is a big selling point for them.

I realize that isn’t what DPP is focused on, but a ‘Jam mode’ for that use case would make DPP a no-brainer for many people that are on-the-fence about what drum app to get.

That’s exactly the question I have!
I’m absolutely not an expert in Drums and I don’t want to dive so deep in Drum programming because I’m a guitarist and not a drummer.

DrumExpert Pro sounds great from the Demos but I ask myself will it fit my needs even when I’m a drum noob?

I’m mainly interested in Rock Drums and I’m looking for quick and good sounding solutions.
Would you recommend DPP for people like me?

    Yes, start/stop ALink in DPP3.

Oh, it was already replied, I see.

  • AU player has made me re-install DPP again.....I'll see if this time I can get past the mental block I get with DPP trying to work out how to program it properly LOL
