@JohnnyGoodyear - if you open the Kontakt application on your computer, the main window on the right should be empty.

On your computer, look for the Instruments folder in the item you’ve downloaded and unzipped, and open it in a new window. In there, you should see a .nki file, e.g Motion.nki (see photo)

Just select it, and drag it into the Kontakt blank section and it’ll load the instrument, or you can click the floppy disk icon in the Kontakt main menu, select load, and browse for the file that way.

My bonus choices so far are Augment, Multiverse – Classics, Movement and Motion. Out of those my favourite is Motion.

Should be working, but I had a go at making a track from Mosaic Guitar and Bass loops, which worked really well.

I'll be using the Homegrown stuff a lot - and you caould make some cracking loops for the iPad out of it. @Jocphone - if you've got Kontakt (full version) I reckon you'd enjoy this too.

Hello? Hello? Is that Mister Customer Support? Hello...?

:) So, I did indeed navigate to this Kontakt business and thereafter (amazingly!) opened the first of these chaps therein:

Can I access it via Maschine? And if so (maybe not?), can you point me in the right direction please?

I know, as lumpen and back-of-the-class as you might imagine. Sorry. :)

EDIT: I should add that I'm playing some of the Circular sounds in the Kontakt player itself and, yeah, yum :)

Yes you can. Load Kontakt into Maschine by picking any preset you can see. Then click the little arrow (next to my mouse pointer in the photo below) to open the Kontakt screen. You can then remove the loaded instrument by clicking the ‘x’ (to the right of the tune knob at the top of the Kontakt screen), and then browse or drag the new instrument in as before.

  • @MonzoPro Thank you so very much. I would jump straight in already, but I just selected some of the extras (following your lead) and I had no idea there would be so much additional 'stuff'. It really IS a bargain deal and thank you again for pointing me in its direction (and your teachings etc).

Chances of getting much work done today = Nah :)

It's ridiculously good, and I've done bugger all work today!

I added Reanimator to my list earlier, which is another stonkingly good thing for rhythmic arps and whatnot. Funnily enough the only one I'm underwhelmed by is the one that tempted me to get this in the first place - Augment. Not really digging that one at all. However, not including the 29 instruments I got with Multiverse Classic, there's 16 really good things to muck about with - and I've still got a credit left (plus another if we pass the threshold thing). £16 quid for all that - you'd struggle to get a decent iOS synth for that price.

    Favourites:

    Motion
    Reanimator
    Mosaic Bass/Guitar
    Succession FM
    Circular

AirTones is probably going to be my final choice. I've got arps, synths, guitar, basses and drums covered, so a bit of playable radio static and the job's a good 'un.

At some point I'm going to see if it's possible to use my own samples.

  • Thanks @MonzoPro !

I tried to update Reaktor for the new front panel patching update and was confronted with a bit of hard reality. My mac is too old now. I knew this time was coming but still the price of a new MBP is a unplayable pill at any time.

So I’ve been avoiding this. But now you have loaned your voice to it, and only £16... oh dear.. not again..

Have you got an SSD? The old HD was slowing down my MBP, so I installed the OS onto an external SSD, given it a new lease of life :) Still get the odd CPU issue, but running Kontakt 5 ok. Only cost about £70.

I remember being one of the people advising you to do that

But no, that’s not the problem mate. My Mac wouldn’t update past El-Capitan and it seems that Reaktor needs something newer. A couple of other things have also needed a new OS so I am seeing it as a sign.

Can’t really complain as this one did me proud for a decade. Bit worried about the keyboard issues in the new laptops. Lots of complaints about them.

Can you run Kontakt though? It’s not as CPU heavy, if you can run version 5 you might get away with it.

Reaktor hammers my computers, the fact these use Kontakt was what interested me.

  • Here's a thing I did yesterday - 95% Homegrown synths, with just the drums via Maschine:

  • Don't overlook the MIDI Arp :) I'm clicking with it in a particularly strong way. So many great ideas in there!

Is it possible to load your samples into any of these instruments? Still don’t quite understand what’s going on.

They almost all seem to be semi-random sample-driven sequencers, often very similar to each other, but I can’t quite figure out how to differentiate them from one another, even after watching a few videos and reading a few descriptions.

I’ve been looking at 64 bit and Kontakt options only.

I'm not really sure. I think it can be done, but would be a good question to ask here:

Thanks Boss. Yeah it's quite tame compared to my usual output, though I have another account for the weird stuff.

What I like about the new synths, is the arp functionality. So in that one, a lot of the rhythmic stuff was done using this. I'd hit the old randomiser a few times until it came up with something decent, and then tweak it to iron out the squeaks and farty bits. This was then recorded onto an audio track in Reason, and I'd trim up the loop and fit it in with the rest of the track. As the latency on my PC is terrible, I'd also have to nudge it a bit to get it in time.

I'll be using this a lot, just a shame it's on desktop.

It can be done as far as I have tried but I needed to rename the WAV files as the same convention as the originals, 001.wav, 002.wav I think it was, with Airtones.

Yeah, saw this confirmed on their forum. I might give it a go with Airtones.

Good morning/afternoon Mister @MonzoPro. Serious thanks for your tips as regards accessing this stuff. It does feel like a lucky bag, but without your direction I wouldn't have had a clue what to do. Things like 'drag it to the Kontakt window' are beyond my pay grade so far :) Maschine-wise I click about with whatever I can see in the main WIndow and haven't even bothered going into the GUI of any of the sounds themselves. I have been strictly presets so far...forgive me, but remember I have never worked with any other music software on the desktop (apart from a dabble with ACID a 1000 years ago)....

.....BUT that's what will make this departure educational as well as fun. The ONE thing that worries me is that having figured out that there's a world I can actually implement beyond the app store......could be expensive trouble :)

OK, off to have a click about. I will likely follow your lead as regards the 'bonus' items, as I don't know my arse from my elbow therein and I know you are a fussy bugger so probably good to follow ...Thanks again for getting me to take a few tentative steps off the safe little Apple island :)

    I remember playing with acid.
Succession is the best of the bunch it allows scales and with 4 separate seqeuncers it is amazing. Most of these offerings have an R button, press that and it will randomise the settings. aThese can control either a sequencer or an instrument. Just experiment, you wont break anything.

Brilliant stuff here. Logic is being sill y with me so I moved over to Live. Though Live was too hard but now am loving it, making loops then loading into Launchpad on make then triggering them on my Launchpad Pro, (a 60th birthday pres).
How do I use Midi Arp? Got to grips with all my other selections.
    This is undoing creative knots.
    Cheers man

Start with the manual. They are pretty good I found. Also, he just released another product which I bought called ARP Stream and it is very very good. Has more features and is based around arpeggiation and branches into some new ideas.

Thank you! Pretty much went through the whole bunch in that one, Mosaic Guitar/bass are keeping it all together though.

It's tricky keeping it in key, as hitting the randomisers throws everything out, so I have to go through the keys and see which ones fit. It can get a bit repetitive too, this looping business, so I record short segments as audio and arrange them in the DAW.

Must say though I'm having hours of fun - despite a few crashes. Just started another track. It's also showing me what Kontact can do - as I'd neglected this one a bit.

Pretty sure at some point I'll pick up a few more of their products, and will definitely join the next group buy.

What Daw do you use? I also bought the drum machine Black Magic? but then realised its a windows app... rats might try it on my daughter laptop... got Live on there too.
Yep hard to keep in Key I like Succession since it runs sequencers in a given key so no guesswork.

I use Reason, which I bought in a sale a couple of years ago. Does the job, though it has a few irritating quirks. Plus points are it works on Mac and PC, and isn’t too hefty on CPU.

Thinking about doing some stuff with Logic and seeing if I get on with that any better - bought it years ago but never really used it. If I had the cash I’d probably get Live.

Just watching the vids for that one, you’re right that’s really good - using variations, you could build a whole track with that.

    That’s tomorrow’s project sorted!

Succession Pro seems to be separate, not on the list for the seven credits for the group buy though, right? Did you buy it separately?

Edit: Succession FM seems to be included, but not Succession Pro? Which one are you guys talking about?

I've got the standard included version - watched the vids for it last night, and will try it out today. Not sure what the Pro version offers extra, but the FM version looks good to me.
