Yes, this would be correct. If the recorded data is slightly off, you can try enabling "Use incoming timestamps" in Settings -> MIDI / Recording -> MIDI INPUT. If that doesn't help or makes the timing worse, then you could use Ableton Link to have SPA and Xequence running in sync, and then just enable recording quantization ("Q" menu in the top toolbar).
Oh yeah! Thanks so much!

Forgot about these two options
Owe you a beverage
No problem! Irish pear cider, please 😉 🍐
Is Xequence 2 AU or a host? 🤔
Please say yes... The current system is impressive but complex. AU hosting and basic mixdowns would help tremendously
Still can’t believe you didn’t do an MPE device like Geo shred or Velocity KB... Both of which I love… But otherwise you are the king of input devices for sure
Before you released your AUs, I used Xequence primarily for the keyboards and drum pads
@audiobussy @nondes Xequence 2 mainly focuses on taking everything that was already good in Xequence, and making it even better, faster, and more robust.
There's also significant further improvements to workflow all around and some important new features.
Regarding AU: Xequence will continue to focus exclusively on MIDI composition and control, and provide an excellent optimized environment for that task.
HOWEVER, the good (not so new) news: a SEPARATE, full DAW with Xequence's excellent sequencer and controller, and an amazing mixer with sends and groups and channel presets and effect reordering and saveable effect chains and yaddayadda, is under full-steam development in parallel. There's only so much a very small development "team" can do, so I can't give a good estimate on the availability date.
But in a nutshell: there was never a better time to acquire some Xequence skills than now!
And then, MPE: That almost made it into Xequence 2, but unfortunately, it will have to wait for inclusion in an update.
Great news. Eagerly waiting for Xequence 2 and the new DAW!
@SevenSystems
I don’t know what kind of new/enhanced features you are adding to Xequence 2 but I wonder if you’ll ever add a MIDI learn functionality to the transport control functions in Xequence, or at least the possibility to manually map them to a particular CC/note. This way Xequence could be triggered using buttons/pads/transport bar of any hardware controller (this would be awesome!) or even trigger it from AUM (it can be done using Audiobus but not from AUM at the moment).
As you may remember I requested this feature long time ago and you answered me in a perfect Spanish saying that you would add this to the list.
Well, as you can see, I’m still dreaming about this feature ;-)
Great idea
I’ve been bugging @SevenSystems about this forever but the ability to insert odd meter bars would be crucial for me and many others . I don’t wanna be limited to straight 4/4 or any other fixed tempo in my work . Kills me because otherwise Xequence is so ridiculously good.
@Rodolfo Xequence 2 will almost certainly support Ableton Link 3, which includes Start/Stop sync (even outside of Audiobus), would that work for your particular setup? MIDI mapping the transport buttons wouldn't be terribly hard to do either, but I had really hoped Xequence 2 is in definite Feature Freeze now 🤪 y gracias por la oportunidad para practicar mi castellano 😉
@Telstar5 really sorry about that, but tempo/timesig are still not automatable. I know it's a feature that belongs in a fully complete MIDI solution and all I can say is I want to implement both some day, but for financial reasons (if you can even call them that!), I have to concentrate on the "lowest common denominator" of features "for the masses" 😬
But "thanks for the flowers" 🌷, as they say in Germany.
Ableton Link 3 is a great addition, it will be possible to start/stop Xequence from AUM and -if AUM’s transport control is mapped to a hardware controller- from any controller too.
Great addition, thank you very much!
However, the Rec function will not be controllable with Link, so MiDI mapping for at least the Rec button will still be on my personal wish list
Midi Learn of transport is also something I've requested and would love to see implemented. Preeeeetty pleeeeeease!
Instead of MIDI learn, wouldn't it make more sense to just support the standard MMC commands for those?
I think Midi learn would allow peeps that use midi controllers with limited functionality to use notes or CCs to trigger the transport.
But both would be great!
Maybe the easiest and most flexible would be a totally generic MIDI learn that can just learn any arbitrary byte sequence. That way, anything could be learnt as long as it's the same every time
Who doesn't love Flexibility?
That’s the best approach in my opinion, since -as already mentioned- not all controllers support the MMC standard.
There are other cases like Gadget which has MiDI learn implemented but for some reason it can’t read the MMC standard, only CCs, so it forced me to remap the transport control of my controller from MMC to CCs.
I see. Yes, the "learn any arbitrary byte sequence" approach would probably be slightly innovative so I'd need to check with the beta team if they have a nice variety of controllers to test with... I can't give promises here but I'll keep it in mind 🙂
(note that Xequence 2 is really already in feature freeze so it might not make it into the first release.)
Audiobus 3 midi learn to the rescue.
Yessss!! Great idea! 😇
So many hardware controllers send rather weird MIDI messages when hitting the transport controls, so it's certainly better to have exactly what you suggested.
Thank you!
Edit: Don't feel rushed, I guess we can accept this feature coming a bit l8er.
Just have to make sure there's no "noise" from other stuff (Active Sense, etc.) during the learn process as that wouldn't be distinguished from the "genuine" command...
A recent version of Audiobus (last year, fixed now) was able to MIDI learn like this but some devices, my Roli Lightpad Block included, send out a multitude of MIDI messages and make it difficult to get the right message from this approach.
Yeah, it's too bad that nobody adheres to the (great!) standard that is defined by MIDI since 1983.
Software and hardware developers should really be required to make a, errr, "MIDI driver's license".
Good point. MidiFire is my friend
A rare view from inside the Seven Systems skyscraper 😉, wrapping up the shiny new website for Xequence 2!
Is that Windows Vista?
Windows 7. Yes, I'm conservative
