Does long-tap to preview work if there's no mouse connected?

    yes

Does it automatically close the preview when the file has finished playing?
(This is something that annoys me with spotlight on macOS as well, the window just sits there after the file has finished playing, but I can use arrow up/down to got to next/previous file and playback starts automatically but with some 'glitches' like not always playing from the start, I've been reporting this since MacOS 10.6 but it's like ignored all the time...).

    It doesn’t close.it still sits there 😂

I just want AudioShare to support drag and drop from its superior playback interface

AudioShare's holders are exposed in the Files app. Use Files app to drag/drop files from/to AudioShare

    @samu no.

Edit: this is weird. If you preview a sample in column view, by tapping "open' you have to close the preview to open another one.

But if you preview it in icon view, or list view, you can swipe left and right to move through samples. ALSO, you can do this in column view, but only if you use the contextual menu to enter Quick Look.

Even if Apple fixed the playback behavior, the workflow in files app is too clunky for my taste. You have to flip to a dedicated screen and back just to play the sample.

I get the feeling Apple sees the fade-in on repeat as a feature, not a bug.

Files.app has move, Audioshare doesn’t, so you get copies of anything you try to move from Audioshare to anywhere else, that soon builds up and fills your storage if you work a lot with samples.

I believe those "copies" are aliases to a single file until you change the content. So, copying doesn't always result in a lot of extra space being taken up.

No, they are straight duplicates and take up extra space.

hm, so audio share isnt the solution.

original in files app, copy 1 in audioshare, copy2 in whatever app, copy 3 in some other app ... this sums up quickly

That happens when multiple storage providers are used.

Duplicating documents in Files.app alone doesn't use more space but if you copy the files to AudioShare, DropBox, GoogleDrive, Documents etc. they will be duplicated.

APFS is partially the reason why I stopped worrying about GarageBand duplicating sessions since only the 'changes' take up more space.(Even though that is NOT reflected in the file-sizes).

That's why it's so funny to look at the 'buggy' size calculation under Settings->Storage on the iPad...
For me it shows like 1GB of GarageBand documents but when I look in the Files.app it's way, way more :D

Keeping everything 'On my iPad' avoiding 3rd party storage providers will be the most 'economic' storage solution.

Are you certain that if you use Files app to copy a file into or out of the AudioShare directory that it actually uses up extra space?

I am not 100% sure of this, but I believe that when you look at the storage allocation while on your iDevice, the system settings may double count files that exist in more than one app's directory even when they all map to the same copy. I think the only way to reliably check is to connect to a computer before and after copying a large file to see if iTunes (on the computer) shows a change in free space that matches the file's size.

The free space management is a bit opaque and confusing.

  • @espiegel123 I've read similar. Copies on APFS are like aliases, not copies. Until you modify them anyway.

I get this response a lot. But Files does not have good UI preview. Try slide over with files vs AudioShare it’s night and day. But AudioShare cannot drag and drop.

Speaking of drop I will drop this request cuz it sure seems like no one gets it 🙏

  • @realdawei I get it. I prefer Audioshare in slide-over, but for the reason Samu pointed out about space I’d like to use the Files app more. The problem with that is when I do, I start getting “content unavailable” messages in the Files app after a certain number of files. This is on ipados too.

100% sure, developer confirmed it too, Audioshare is a storage provider.

  • btw,is 12.4.1 working smooth with all audio related stuff (still on 12.4 but don't need a JB)?I want to stay away from ipad OS until next.

12.4.1 is no worse than 12.4. But see: https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/34030/psa-dont-update-to-ios-12-4-if-you-use-apps-in-ab-output-slot-or-iaa-apps-that-use-the-mic#latest

Ah yes,i'm aware of this issue but i rarely use IAA these days and i'm already on 12.4 anyway.

  • You would think that they could give you a progress bar when copying a bunch of files to an external HD.

You would if you assume that’s something they actually want to encourage you to do rather than something they only very begrudgingly added in order to appear to be staying competitive while not denting their incredible profit margins for higher Ram devices any more than needed.
