There aren’t as many good answers to that question as there should be. Anything that has Link Start/Stop capability or AudioBus capability, or in some cases even midi-clock slave capability should work to some degree. The four apps you mention should work.
I’d normally use Loopy HD, MultiTrack DAW or Cubasis, in that order. But I actually don’t think I’ve done any live audio recording alongside X2.
If I’m doing midi and live audio together, it’s been Stagelight for me of late.
Thanks for investigating 🙂 I was suspecting something like that.
There's two separate code paths for queueing Note Offs... one always queues both Note On and Note Off for each note synchronously no matter how far they are apart, the other only queues the Note Off like any other event, i.e. when its time actually comes into the current buffer window. I think most of the time, the first path is used because it is better for avoiding hanging notes in many situations.
Thanks! Will keep an eye out for an update and let you know how it goes...
That's a good reason to use sliced loops instead of just drum samples in GR-16!
And even if you're only just appending 16 drum samples into one file...
16 instruments per track for a total of 128 drums plus 8 synth/instrument channels.
Hard to beat (except in BM3 of course).
Thanks. Great suggestion.
@SevenSystems just to let you know that I've bought X2, and started to play with it tonight !
I'm exporting my patterns from Modstep, and it's super easy !
Timing is more accurate between apps, undo/redo works like a charm...
Switching between apps seems robust...
Thanks a lot !
))))
Very nice to hear, thanks 🙂 any questions or issues, just post them here.
On holidays right now, but Xequence support is still high on the priority list "unfortunately" 😉
Please enjoy your holidays. Everybody needs a break.
+1000 enjoy your holidays, and come back with your super brain fresh
I found out a micro bug until now:
While you change the name of a midi main instrument, you can't save the song directly (X2 does not recognize the name changing as a modification, so you need to add a midi note, then press "undo" then you may save...
A quick question...
Is it normal that if you change the Link tempo that X2 does not "follow" but stop/restart at some bars ?
Is there a setup to make that not happening ? (even if the clock is less robust during that changes...)
Thanks
Yes, there's a few actions which don't currently register as "project modified", I'm already hunting them down and all of them will be fixed in an update shortly. In the meantime, you can also hit "Save as..." and then just keep the name and tap "OK".
No, unfortunately Xequence's engine does not currently support smooth tempo transitions... so any change in tempo must currently trigger a re-sync.
Hopefully, Xequence will support a tempo track (and ramps etc.) sometime in the future, which would then also eliminate this problem.
ok thanks for the clarification
Hey everyone,
just a sneak peek at a nice feature that'll be available in the next Xequence update -- muting of individual clips! Enabling a totally different arrangement workflow for electronic music.
Handy!
Head xplodes!!!😉😲😲😲😲❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
You da man! Really wish I could listen to that whole song!
That whole song isn't finished yet, so don't bother!
(it will of course be great though once it is!
)
@SevenSystems that looks great!
...
Very cool stuff!
Does anyone have a good AB3>AUM>XEQ (OR XEQ2) setup they could post here as an AB preset?
I mainly use AUM with XEQ2 and tend to get crackling if I try to include AB3.
Would like to see if I can use all 3 nicely together. Cheers.
What synths are you using? And what hardware?
iPad Pro 2nd gen 12.9”
Lightweight synth apps.... Zeeon, Poison, Ruismaker.
Really love that new feature...
Thanks a lot !!!!
How many Zeeons are you using? What buffer settings in AUM and Audiobus? Fwiw, zeeon isn't lightweight imo. There are even more CPU-intensive synths, but it isn’t particularly lightweight. You might need to up your buffers bit.
Thanks for the advice. To be honest it happens with just a single instance or 2 of any app. Just checked the buffer settings and I’m using the recommended 256 in both AB & AUM.
Don’t really wanna derail the Xequence thread as it’s not a XEQ issue. Was just hoping someone may have a ‘bare-bones’ AB preset with those 3 apps I could load up and see if there’s any difference with it.
Also interested in more complex presets with those 3 apps just to see how folks are combining them all.
If you are getting crackles , try increasing the buffers.
I would pay again for this as an AUFX.. premium price too.. 😉
Thanks. Actually just managed to get an old ‘Test Preset’ working with Xequence2, AB3 & AUM on 512 buffer. Strangely the crackles have also gone after reducing back down to 256 buffer on each too.

Yeah ditto. Loving all the new tweaks and features that have appeared in V2.
Right, so I was away for a couple of weeks (actually months) when one of my fave apps (Xequence) got its new version. I enjoyed the "old" one a lot, had it fully loaded with all IAP's etc, and have always been raving about how good it is. Looking at the new version, fully knowing I missed the intro pricing, I'm still not sure what actually is different between the two versions?
Do I need the "new" one? What is the new killer feature? What benefits would it bring me (over the old one), apart from the joy of the knowledge one of our fave devs get one more app sell?
Yes, I do know I can still keep on using the "old" one, but you know, like most I would prefer having the latest/greatest version if I can. Just trying to pace my catching-up-with-all-apps.
@hellquist, nice to see you back. A good starting point is this page:
http://www.seven.systems/xequence2/en/new-in-2/
At Xequence's usual breakneck development speed though, that's already extremely old news and the app has again seen many major improvements and new features since 2.0.0. So another look at the version history in the App Store would also be a good idea 🙂
I can also say that 2.2 is right around the corner and again introduces some significant stuff.
You can't go wrong with Xequence 2! 😉
