    Drambo universal?

    yup

Drambo can work as a mutlitrack MIDI sequencer now (both AU and external MIDI).

Wow! This is turning into something very special!
@giku_beepstreet you said there won‘t be a lot of midi-learn capabilities because of the modular nature of it - is it possible to make the sequencer midi-learn able? No matter how thorough I search for it.. Haven‘t found any sequencer for iOS or Mac that has midi-learn steps.

  • In honor of this being Drambo launch month, it is isn’t it!?, i picked up iSequencecHD. You may think, huh?, in this day and age? But, I love to be hemmed in, in a closed system. I like limitations, they force me to make decisions.

    Plus, it’s the weekend.

  • Dec. 1 starts now. Tik Tok Tik Tok.

  • Just putting this thread back on page 1 😙

  • Dang I thought they hinted this was going to drop on Black Friday. :(

  • Only 30 days to go for 2019 release. Wooopwooop drambo’s coming to town!!!!

  • Looks interesting! (sorry for the meaningless bump, but I want to get in on the announcement when this goes live)

  • Woohoo lets bump it some more, woohoo, not released, woohoo so awesome, woohoo.

Easy question: will Drambo stop me from GASing for a hardware sequencer?

Yup. Been watching Octatrack videos for the past few weeks. Quick. Save me.

Same here! Just finished reading “some thoughts on Octatrack by Merlin” , an excellent guide that put my GAS into overdrive for this sampler. I was already very tempted by all the Dataline, Cuckoo and Max Marco YT videos; now I’m nearly sold.

Just studying the manual and all the info I can absorb before I seal the deal..So much experimental/sound design/mixing n glitching prowess that my Deluge can’t approach; though the latter has plenty of its own strengths that I think will compliment the Octatrack quite nicely.

    Don’t put it away.

  • RELEASE THE HOUNDZ

  • I hope it’s going to be at least as good as Reason Compact 🤡

  • What will the cost of Drambo be.... when it drops?

I have owned an octatrack twice and have false started with it like 10 times in the years. I finally have gotten far with it as the brain in my live set. I think what really helped was i approached it as a "mixer with fx" first, taking my xoxbox and tr606 output into thru machines and applying fx. From there i incrementally got more complex: adding loops, and live recording / resampling my gear with recorder trigs. It also helped to use a machinedrum for a few months and really learn the elektron recording trig / playback trig approach to live sampling.

When I've failed on the octatrack it was usually trying to just load some samples into it and make a track purely composed of samples. If you're spending a lot of time in the wave editor you will get fatigued from the small screen and put it on a shelf. Also, prep samples in a DAW and use octachainer app makes it a lot more enjoyable to use.

  • Just watched some of the scattered YouTube videos on this one. Finally.

Those sampler modules in the environment you’ve created, @giku_beepstreet , look amazing. Godspeed! My DigiTakt is concerned. It should be.

yeah I'd been on the fence about a digitakt since it was released. Beta testing drambo has sorted me out on that. Absolutely no need for an OT or DigiTakt. (And this is coming from someone who nearly always prefers hardware!)

This thing surpasses the hype imho. Still some bugs to work out, but it is truly mindblowing. The wait has been excruciating, I know, but you will not be disappointed.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Sounds like OT’s been a long, bumpy, but ultimately rewarding journey for ya.

I’d love to start with Machinedrum UW+ over the OT if I could find one for under 1k. I’ve only seen the synth-only versions in that price range lately, unfortunately. Seems like a much more approachable instrument for an Elektron newbie, but with a depth that is lacking in some of their newer boxes.

At this point it’s hard for me to tell if I’ve underestimated the extent of time investment and frustration hurdles I’ll need to traverse to get what I want out of OT. I think I already have a solid understanding if its architecture concepts (parts, patterns, scenes, machine types, etc). Not trying to fool myself though, I know it’s going to be a mountain to climb.

I’d probably only focus on flex machines at first, sequencing and mangling one-shot samples I’ve collected, using it by itself for a couple weeks before I start integrating it with any other gear or sound sources. And like you suggest, just chip away at more advanced concepts as I acclimate to the process. I’m sure the payoff will be worth it...

Funny thing is that Merlin sold his OT after writing his technical guide. Due to frustration, iirc.

He’s still at it from what I can tell, his last post was from just this year on electronauts forum... His post history a treasure trove of advanced OT tips and tricks.
