the camel's back demands revenge!!
I don’t know if or how far off the rails this thread went, but my 2 cents are, I don’t feel upset about the pricing although I did feel that IK Multimedia was just sloppy with iap’s and stand alone apps that were the same amp and pedals as iap’s and there was a time when you had to pay twice if you had the IPhone version and the IPad version for iap’s, then they changed it so you can sync and share both IAP’s between the IPhone and IPad versions of AmpliTube, I just felt like things were all over the place, but at the end of the day I preferred having all the IAP’s inside of AmpliTube vs having them all as stand alone apps.
As far as positive Grid goes, I did buy all the IAP’s for Jam up Pro, I thought they could have put more into the multitrack recorder but when the came out with Bias Fx I moved on from Jam Up Pro, but they did let you sync the Metal Expansion from it with Bias Fx. I love that we can customize amps in Bias Amps and open them in Bias Fx ( and Jam Up Pro )
Anyway I’m not upset with any of their pricing schemes, but I do feel like Positive Grid is a lot less focused on the IPad OS/IOS platform these days and are more into hardware and desktop apps.
Note that there's no AmpliTube Brian May or Dimebag standalone app, and I feel that should show the direction that IK was going in with regard to the issue you present. I believe the post was locked because it was explained precisely how it works with the existing standalone apps and IAP and how to share IAP among the main AmpliTube apps (along with the FAQ link about that aspect). You were asked to contact support because the mods/admins of the IK forum cannot offer any resolution to the issue you presented and support could (as suggested here you may have even tried to make a case for an app code for the standalone AmpliTube Slash app, they could have fielded that request however they felt fit based on the case you made).
With regard to the above about making such a request, to be honest you seem to have come at IK very hard in the thread and here, as well as toward any users who stated anything positive about IK. I understand things can get frustrating but you seem to still be very very aggressive in your posts.
Regardless of that, though, I am willing to admit that I feel your pain (noting again how there may be movement in the right direction with recent lack of standalone apps for Brian May or Dimebag as an example, going forward) and make this one exception and while I cannot do this for everybody as codes are limited I will PM you AmpliTube Slash codes for iPhone and iPad. I feel that this, along with the noted direction taken with Brian May and Dimebag, should help with the issue you have with IK. Check your PMs in a little while as the codes may take a few minutes to generate.
As far as other generalizations I see about reputation, I believe the comments in this forum should say a lot and there are certain groups that have vocal people who influence them who have issues with IK that I'd be happy to help with but they don't seem to want to have a real dialogue about their issues. So be it, like I've said in other comments here I realize not everybody is going to love every product or every company and I hope someday perhaps they'll reconsider but until then I'm available to discuss any issues.
Edit - codes have been sent.
Wow @ikmultimedia , well handled. I have to say I also enjoy your presence here when you chime in on threads that aren’t Ik related as well as Ik related threads), please keep that up as it’s good to have you here. I still read this forum every day even though I don’t post as much as I used to.
I don’t do as much music on iOS as I once did, I’m mainly on the computer these days, but I still feel like amplitube is the best of the amp sims and use it on both platforms. It’s rare that any mix or tracking I do doesn’t use svx2 on my bass (or others’ bass when it’s not my mix). Actually, I just recommended an axe io to a friend who is looking to improve his bass and guitar tracking at home. Considering that until tomorrow, you get amplitube max with it for free, that’s a heck of a deal on a recording interface. I got some very good deals with that group buy a few months ago, and I just got modo drum a few weeks ago, my first mix using that will be out soon, unfortunately I had to do sample replacement (physical modeling replacement?) to remedy some questionable drum recording choices I made at earlier points in my recording career....
Anyway, that rambling is to say that I don’t think IK pricing is misleading. The issues from years ago with constant pop ups in apps, etc, are long gone.
@ikmultimedia
Finished eating my extra large popcorn.
That was a fun ride to say the least.
Yep, that was handled rather well.
Nice touch with the codes.
Happy New Year.
Thank you. Note that we also extended the grace period on the MAX Your I/O promo that you mention so that people have time to receive the units if they ordered from a dealer that may have issues getting the shipment out and received before the Dec 31 cutoff. Your friend will have until the 15th of January to register their qualifying interface (I do love AXE I/O so I'm glad that's what you recommended - even outside of IK affiliation it is something I'd have on my shortlist or already purchased even though I already have 24 analog I/O in my home studio) to get AmpliTube MAX free.
Speaking of replacement, I haven't had to do any since MODO DRUM was released, but I feel your pain. I've been there and haven't done replacement on iOS but on desktop I enjoy the ease of doing so with Cubase. I'll have to check if Cubasis does audio-to-MIDI but I don't think it does at this point (yet?). That would be a fun and useful workflow on iOS and would prefer it in Cubasis since my main desktop DAW is Cubase.
Anyway, glad you are happy but also hope I've made OP happy (or happier) with the codes and additional explanation.
I swear I know how to multiquote but... I was already typing the novella above when you posted and I'm not so great at interrupting my own flow
Thank you for the kind words and Happy New Year to you too!
Oh, cool, good to know. I think he was going to Sam ash in nyc today, they have it in stock, but I will let him know.
Oops, double post.
@ikmultimedia classy 👍
Ah, I miss living close to NYC... And also miss Manny's and other iconic music spots (and venues) that are long gone. Sam Ash is great, too, I just have a lot of nostalgia for some places that are no longer around.
Yes, sadly 48th street is just a street now. I almost bought a G&L L-2500 from manny’s going out of business sale but the neck was messed up. Manny’s was owned by Sam ash by that time anyway. I remember going to 48th st in high school and college though and trying out instruments you could only read about in magazines. In fact, a 25” scale bass that I built out of strat parts has a bridge that came from Alex music, the guy that owned it is retired in Florida and his son was selling off some old stock, they made a bass called the matador or something in the 80’s with circular pickups and a heavy brass bridge.
Sam ash is on 34th now, right by MSG. I’m about 12 miles outside the city in nj and usually driving in, but since parking is not easy in that area, I’ve never been to the new Sam ash. I generally avoid music stores anyway, although Larry Hartke still has his bass store in that Sam ash (I think) so I’d love to visit it sometime. But my friend lives in the city and has a gift card to Sam ash, so I am pretty sure he was going there to get whatever he chooses. He was looking at an apogee duet, which is certainly a good interface, but I think since he’s focusing on guitar and bass recording and leaving instruments that are getting mic’ed up to others, the axe io would do well for him. And I didn’t realize it had mic inputs, but I imagine they would do well if he does decide to mic things up ever, although since he lives in an apartment and has been a session bassist for years, I will guess that he is leaving that to people in studios to do.
I hope that he and I can make some videos as I teach him how to use it.
Ah, quick edit, he is on his way home from Sam ash with axe io in hand!
Thanks so much for the recommendation and thanks in advance for helping your friend out. I'm originally from NJ too - Bergen County born and bred here.
General update so I don't go TOO far off topic here - OP has received the codes and I sent the Apple Support instructions to redeem them. Hopefully this is getting as close to a happy ending as we can under the circumstances. Will be a good way to ring in the new year.
I used to have a G&L L-2500. Wonderful bass. Incredible range of tones.
Hi

🤔 There was never any intention of blaming IK multimedia for one single $8 confusing IOS App store product etc, i thought people understood it to be a figure of speech, sort of like mentioning the FL studio Music ios app marked at 999,99€ lol ,
i honestly thought i already owned the Slash ios App and i was seen that deceptive Apple bug where the prices still show even if you paid for an item.
As for the Pain? 🤔 hmmm? i was replying from my sofa while watching TV yesterday and was only expecting to hear more about how Apple and iTunes store is vague etc,
but is this how some felt here? all the posts?, i was wondering why some people jumped in like it was wrong to point out the possibility of been double charged, i thought i made it clear.
I hope you are able to redeem the codes, @GavrielProductions
Also, I'm not 100% sure but I think some devs price apps like that so nobody buys an older version that wasn't feasible to fully remove from the App Store for whatever reason. Again, not 100% sure since we haven't had to go that route ourselves but I believe that was the reasoning in the FL case and others. Could be wrong but putting it out there (and wishing my old brain cells could retain the details with more clarity
)
It was your tone. Glad it’s all sorted.
Yep, thanks to this thread I re-downloaded SampleTank, iGrand, iLectric, & Amplitube. I’d previously removed them to try to go 100% AU but they’re nice to have back.
well, early Happy new year to you all!
I play iGrand piano everyday.
It's perfect for my needs.
I have Amplitube CS with the ampeg bass IAP,
if I need any of the other sounds
I'll simply purchase them via the app itself.
Both IK Multimedia's Amplitube and Yonac's Tonestack do that.
I would prefer a better way of how they organise
how we see the amps and collections
but that is a minor niggle considering
what we have at our fingertips.
I'm waiting for SampleTank 4 to drop.
Before that I got music to do.
I'd say I'm about 80/20 in a love/hate relationship with IK Multimedia. We have a lot of baggage but still stay together for the children. Most of the problems stemmed from me expecting one thing and getting something else. I keep dishing out money for child support anyway. We just keep making new kids. Not ready to call it quits for good.
I want that damn $100 Hammond organ but can't afford the MIDI controllers right now. All I probably need is an expensive dual tiered keyboard stand. I'll take "Keyboard Stands" for $150 Alex. Just because I want something doesn't mean I should buy it. Still... never stopped me before.
Hammond is an icon sound and one of the most expressive instruments in modern music with the right controls and practice investment. $100 just gets the basic tones and mods. The real investment is the effort to master the instruments capabilities. Not unlike piano, guitar, sax, etc.
Truer words have never been spoken (or typed, in this case).
Thank you for the honest and balanced post. If there's anything in that 20% I can assist with, drop me a line. Even if you want to relay your experience so I can try to get some info to the proper folks so things can improve in the future.
I am more annoyed at IK for not having a midi channel select option on sampletank than I am about the pricing but hey that’s just me.
Most of the 20% issues are related to buyer's remorse over sunk investments in SampleTank, Amplitube and then higher priced Apps I covet but can't justify. I'm sure I'm in well over $100 each after all the IAP's I have added. I do feel very positive about the full Syntronik grabbed at 50% off. But that does set my expectations for a $50 Hammond B-3X sale in a year or 2: Just human nature to pray for deals.
I expect SampleTank to be replaced with another similar product that uses current standards and has more MIDI features. And it will generate outrage here but I get the problem due to the engineering effort to re-design a 10 year old product using today's expected standards for IOS ROM-like sample systems and I have them all I expect.
Trust me 80/20 is really very good. I have similar rankings for all the big players with massive engineering and marketing staffs: Korg, Roland, Propellerheads, Steinberg/Yamaha.
You are never going to get the relationship ratings a @brambos, @Michael or @j_liljedahl because your catalog and processes are just too large to compete with that level of targeted development. And they just don't have the overhead and can win us over on bang for the buck and rapid response.
But don't stop trying.
+1
It was/is exactly that for all the "bonkers" pricings. Basically they don't want people to purchase the old app, but they still would like to honor the owners of the app by providing updates. If they instead remove the old app they can't update it any longer, and having two apps priced similarly will lead to people purchasing the old one in error thinking they would get the new app etc, start complaining etc, which will cost more in man-hours for their support. Hence giving an old app an astronomical price.
Apple can remove anything on the spot if requested , and does it not cost a developer money to keep their apps to date and in the app store?
You as a developer can also remove your own app immediately if you wish. That still doesn't mean it is possible for users of that app to receive updates to it, and if they had just purchased it they are quite likely to get upset.
I think the calculation the companies do which sport these types of pricing is that it will be less costly to push updates to an old app rather than removing it completely (which will make people upset and angry, go on to messageboards to complain, leave bad reviews wherever they can etc). That will cost in man-hours, guarding various messageboards and Facebook groups, put a strain on their support for answering questions about pricing instead of bugs/feature requests etc.
Now we are down to me guessing though, but I did ask a developer who put these types of prices on their apps what the reasons were, and at the time the answer was what I wrote above.
I have never liked the pricing structure of IK, I think its a rip off. For example I own TRacks 5 and want to update to Tracks Deluxe and its the same price as buying it as a new customer. There is no clear update price.
IOS is a totally different ball game and again their pricing structure sucks.
From a company point of view, its good for them, its about making money.
