I wasn’t aware Apple could change a developers code as mentioned by Jens after a app was submitted devs out there on the forum is this standard practice?

As a developer you can choose to upload an app either 'fixed' or as 'byte code'. The latter is the default setting. It allows Apple to update your app for changes in the OS (or for optimizing for new devices) without you having to do anything. So it's usually the best option.

I have only ever had one issue with the Byte Code recompilation, and that was due to a piece of bad code on my end. At the time of uploading iOS did not have an issue with it, but at a later time (when the OS became more strict wrt memory management) it caused my app to crash. So, it was still technically my own fault ;)

Had a long answer back from the JAF team ref the instant crashing of Unisonic.

yes, we are very sorry about this.

Maybe you can help to clarify this, as many ppl have reported this super gau.

We were curious, so I deinstalled our current release from all of the development devices and downloaded the latest release with a promo code from the app store to these devices.

The result is : complete disfunctionality!

    My suspicion has proven true.
Apple is obviously modifying the code of the releases in a bad way.
This is just more confusing, as they always do check each submitted app manually and would reject any crashing apps.

Please help us to make people understand,
that we always do our best to provide good releases. We carefully tested the units prior release. We are now shocked, that these releases do not work, after all that trubble with fighting against that entire app store validation processing. (This always takes days of preparation and waiting and so on....)

So we are indeed more sorry than the users even could imagine, if this all does not work correctly afterwards.

Apple development is finally (after 30 years of being an active developer on all possible platforms) one of the most difficult, disappointing and unproductive experiences i have had to make until now.

I hope you actually can understand me anyhow.
Unsatisfied users and customers are surely the very last thing we want to have!

I’ve stopped the current “damaged” download and compiled a new build.
I did make it available at the App Store already and hope, that it will not be modified in that bad way again.

Doing extensive debugging of the damaged file did not give us any useful resutlts or a hint of any error on our side, b.t.w ...

Please clarify this in the fora, if you are active there.

    Mit freundlichen Grüßen,
    Jens Güll

Whatever is happening here re: plugin build, it's reassuring to know the Dev is responsive and proactive.

  • Apparently the apps been pulled from the store now so are we looking at a refund situation or money down thee drain!

  • Glad I read this thread prior to updating. Wondering when the the newest fix will drop. January 2nd?

@ALB I think the dev is pushing out a free app to make up for the mess! Got the feeling this one maybe abandon ware we shall see.

Well, glad the dev is doing it. I still have the original app and like it. Looking forward...

  • Pulling the app from the store is a weird move, why not just fix the bug? Killing a brand new app is a pretty good way of alienating customers who have paid and supported your work.

  • I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a similar situation as DM2.

  • Only had a quick mail contact with Jens but what i have seen is a highly dedicated developer who really respects his customers — you must not expect a dick move from him.

In no time this whole messed up situation will be sorted out. I think

what might these new features be? I'm still trying to decide between this and the eventide one. I'm leaning toward Unisonic, but I'd really like to hear what it sounds like

  • Any dev that gives away an app to compensate a dedicated group of followers is awesome in my book. Was thinking of passing on this one, but Jens’ stand-up character tipped me to buy! And I got the free app! Thank you!

What the free app? The convolution reverb one?

    No, that’s very cool.

Tested in AUM. Functionality seems to be all good. As in, it's stacking input signal in the manner described, rather than not loading at all.

  • What a great developer! 👍🏼

How does this app compare with any of the other harmonisers out there?
I have Harmoniz, Discord4 (only 4 voices) and 4pockets Vocal Soloist, wondering if this brings anything new to the table.

You have now the possibility to use a different delay and pan for each of the voices. In addition to the pitch and the volume. This makes the app very useful

What is the quality of the pitch-shifting compared to quadravox and what is the CPU use like ? The specs are good, but there haven't been any examples posted.

  • Everything loads and works fine - thank you, JAX! Will investigate the new features later...

  • Is there a way to control the wet/dry input signal? I would like the ability to completely replace the dry signal with a wet one of different pitches but can’t figure out how to silence the original dry signal...

I think the quality of the shifting is nicer from what I've run through it compared to Qvox, and there are a LOT more options. 8 voices of delay -/+ transpose pan gain spread and detune. And for once the UI doesn't awkwardly fit the window ;).

There is one "issue", which I don't know if it is an issue or reg behavior. There's a green dot on the bottom of each voice that turns that voice on and off, however when I have disengaged on it leads to weird stuttering (the cpu is not causing this at least by the DSP meter in AUM).

If it's a unison (or unaltered) voice no problem just leave it on. So you have to be a bit deliberate with it.

(deleted video) New video further on.

  • @audiblevideo JAX sounds way better in this example. Can anyone offer an exampleWhere the eventide sounds much better?

To my ears, the pitching in QVox sounds better, less “metallic”. I agree however that JAX is more controllable. The fact that it has up to 8 voices is not really an advantage over QVox (only 4 voices) because above 4 voices it becomes really the mess...
I have also compare it with harmony eight and here again, I prefer the pitching “accuracy” of QVox.

Eventide does well when the sounds are clearly separated the duration of the held note is what is throwing Qvox off. My guess at least since I've had few problems using it with shorter sounds.

Qvox does offer some ease use/immediacy over JAX UN in that the interface is just easily twiddled dials and the ribbon for morphing. JAX UN takes a little more work to set up due to some extra options and the design/responsiveness of the UI which isn't bad, it just not spinning a dial.

  • @audiblevideo : thanks for posting. You are right the distortion makes it a bit hard to get a sense of things.

Anyone else have some audio or video to share.
