@DJB what do you think about making this freebie open source so all the feature requesters can join development and add their dream features?

Wouldn't that expose their UI code that they may not want falling into other developers hands?

Just a possible way of how to support joint development, I have no idea what @DJB thinks about it.

Me neither but I imagine their is a lot of shared code and they probably have their own libraries to speed up development of future plugins. This is a major advantage for a company and possibly something they might not want to share.

I like the idea of joint development, but also see a bunch of potential issues. Having to release our IP to the public (some of it the result of several years of research, development and polishing work) is not something to be taken lightly.... Then there are licenses of third party SDKs that can't be shared, the necessary Apple developer account and certificates that are necessary for a release, etc....

You're right, all that may cause even more headaches than reading endless feature requests and adding them yourself 😅

Would you please consider selling the desktop version of your plugins through the macOS App Store? I don't care if I have to pay a little more. The value to a user is that the updates are always pushed out through a single point of access. Having to go back to the Toneboosters site to check if there are updates is not ideal and I imagine it could only improve customer exposure to your fine offerings.

Please consider it. I love the Toneboosters apps.

We've considered this, but last time we checked, Apple doesn't seem to allow AU, AAX and VST(3) plugins to be distributed through the app store. Obviously the stand-alone version isn't a big deal but that's not of much use for most....

I was not aware they had not considered people might want to buy plugins and not just standalone apps. Shame on Apple and thanks for this information.

I bought the FAC AUs through the Mac App Store - but they are AUv3 and only work in a few hosts. I use Logic and that’s ok - they work there fine - but I also use Gig Performer and that’s a no go for AUv3s at this point.

(This was before all the M1 universal shenanigans)

Ah yes indeed auv3 are usually distributed as extension to a stand-alone app. That way they can be distributed through the app store like it works for iOS. Not sure there is an (approved) way to do something similar with VST2, AAX and VST3. We've also found that auv3 support in most hosts is non existent or very buggy, especially with multi-channel and immersive audio capable plugins.

  • Is anyone using this can tell me what the little square button does down on the left side? If I touch it, it turns orange. That’s about it.

  • @Stochastically … turns on a faint grid in the background… took me a few presses to realise 😊
