Now I need to make an app which exclusively features samples of bugs hitting cars for people to remix.
😂😂😂
Got it - useful as I bought a bass a few months ago. I don’t see how to access IAP’s?
pretty unique idea though
it is based on a book with the same topic?
That it is! The book is out of print now and we wanted to give the topic a second wind.
In that sense, the SWAM models of cello and violin are accurate.
Of course world-class cellists like Yo Yo Ma can make the cello sound good at the higher pitch ranges, like in Bach Cello Suite #6. But at the end of the day, people want to hear violin music played on violin, not cello, for various reasons including the one you hint at. Violin is designed to sit well in the mix at that range.
Yeah I guess it is supposed to sound that way as it reflects the sound of the actual instrument. But as somebody that knows nothing about Celli and violins and doesnt really care about perfect modelling, I wouldn't have minded a less hissy, less blunt upper range. But the 1st/2nd harmonic toggle allows for further variation of the possible sounds, which is nice. and of course the general expressiveness is pretty cool and the overall sound is great, as with the other swams.
Wow, this is really pretty cool!
I wonder how much effort it would take to enable users to open individual MIDI files from the net and retain all these features?
I image you could charge a lot for that ability and have a hugely popular app!
you have insects in your midi files?!?
@SNystrom I second @dobbs's question
True enough ... all depends what you're after ... but while you might not know or care much about cellos and articulation, you're ears will ... these swam instruments really jump out at you through a mix once you get the hang of them ... when you want an instrument to carry the melody solo for a bit. You get an instant image of a human working up a sweat ... it's instinctive. You'll notice.
My only problem with these gadgets is that they're all arse-about for "proper" string players ... it's got bow pressure controlled by my left hand ... the one that after lots of practice does the all the fingering on the strings... but no all the nimble fast fingers that know where to go are over there trying to learn bowing late in life. It's a senseless waste of what little craft we've mustered.
Very physical thing a cello ... you dance with them, embrace them, ride them in every conceivable way. And they hum and purr and wiggle back.... not like pressing yer piano buttons.
So it'd be cool to have that expression pad on the right and proper side of the screen... much more natural ... let my bow arm do it. To get even closer I'd make it resizable - a strip. The bow is the most important bit of the show really. I'd like some serious grunt and range in the bow pressure ... much more than is possible with the little square pad.
In an ideal world - one no longer subject to the design tyranny of keyboard players - I'd at least be able to run this clever app in portrait mode, sit it upright on my lap, my "bow" held firmly on the expression strip and my little left finger playing the higher notes - just like god intended. 😁
Not exactly a cello but if you shut your eyes .... damn close.
Something more like this: https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/30852/3-ipads-cello-madness
Jokes aside, I reckon that's a truly fantastic instrument.... specially if you started modifying and programming the bow.
Lol.
maybe its worth trying to map the expression pad to a midi controller like a korg nanopad or sth...
I mean I would probably appreciate the accurate modelling of the upper range more if the violin iap wouldnt set me back another 17 quid😁
Surprise! This almost never happens... 🤣

🙄😑
Upper range of geocello shines with distortion and fx. It makes a great screaming lead instrument.
You can easily set up a strip control on the right top side of GeoShred. Resizing is the challenge though. It may not get big enough for you.
That's what a real cello sounds like when pushed into that high pitch range. The blunt part anyway.
Even a viola pushed up there doesn't sound as sweet as violin in the higher range, though not quite as blunt as cello.
At the end of the day, I'm guessing you'll probably end up forking over the $15 or whatever for GeoViolin, to, well, play violin parts. Whether sooner or later depends of course how stubborn you are at fighting with GeoCello to get it to produce the high pitch tones that you want.
Let's see if there's another sale, then I'll surely cave in.
Lol. Yeah, it’s a definite sales tactic but if you happen to be eyeing up a 4 pockets app, just wait a month or two it will most likely go on sale. Scratch the most likely, and let’s go with highly probable.
Not music but possibly useful apps that are now Free.

This is slightly off topic but Just stumbled across this app. Its a free app called Pixelcam, which is a super lofi camera, and video camera. I could see this creating a video, or at least providing some b roll.
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/pixelcam/id431093404
That's handy to know - many thanks Msr S... well worth trying I think ... particularly if you are a string player - including guitarists... will find it much more natural with a bit of re-wiring of the mind back to how they actually play - not like keyboards at all .. at least I can get the proper fragments of the brain doing their proper jobs.
Damn, @Poppadocrock, you've been busy tonight!
Last off topic app...
PXL - Mosaic Art, makes a picture from a bunch of tiny pictures, kinda cool. Usually $1.99 now Free

Lil bit. Lol. Thanks to some encouragement from you and a few others I plan on sharing some, not too many, OT apps if I spot them, especially if free. Stuff thats creative, or useful, particularly to iOS music makers, who always need cool pics, videos, graphics, etc... Cheers!
More power to your master plan!
Musically creative people are almost always creative in other areas, and I (and presumably many others) appreciate your efforts immensely!
Cheers mate!
