I bought a mini recently thinking I can minimise screen presence in my looping rig but soon realised that it was all too easy to misspress stuff.
Pro sure looks great to an ipadoholic but 9.7 seems just the sweet spot for me.
If/when air 2 comes out I'll probably get that to run the already by then ironed ios 9 unless of course it ships with ios 10 in which case another 6 months on air 2. I don't mind
Edit: so I sold my mini 2 couple of days ago but find myself missing it because it has such a great form factor, especially with the apple leather case. I'll probably get one at some point just to run impaktor on it. The prices should start coming down to £100 on eBay.
That's interesting. I would think someone like you would like a bigger screen. The knobs and sliders on the apps you use now would be bigger and easy to touch. You could see a lot more when you are in the playing in the zone.
For me a Pro iPad would not be a replacement for my iPad, I think how it will be held and used would be completely different to how we use iPads now. If Apple had released this in the normal form factor would it really justify the moniker 'Pro', for me the answer would be no.
So split screen is like gluing two Minis together?
This thing is like made for Audiobus.
Waiting on a few things:
Does it have 4gb RAM?
Is the processor speedy without getting too hot?
What is the UK price?
When I win the Lottery!
Good questions.... especially the last!
At least the 128GB iPhone 6s plus is now 1069€ in germany :O I'm really out now of buying any new iOS device for such crazy prices. They are good but not worth a f...... grand! (beside the macs). My iPhone 5 and iPad Air have to do the iOS parts until they die!
wow, and I thought Australian prices were crazy...
I think Apple are playing a dangerous game trying to be the Moog of touch devices. I can understand having the high end mystique and desirability can keep margins high enough to fund innovation. Apple seem to release more and more incremental releases in each product line. Simply put, if your product is not the best in its field or have the highest desirability factor, you should not ask the highest prices.
Apple make wonderful devices, but I personally think they are devaluing their product lines with incremental releases. High end devices should have more of everything between each release as most people cannot afford to splash the cash every year. Obviously Apple make money, but are they maintaining growth. Most people I know do not have iPads but do have iPhones as they are easier to buy on contract.
Apple please make iPads easier to own and make the market grow. Larger market will help developers afford to keep prices low and make continued innovation in software easier to achieve.
I'm seeing it harder to buy iPhones on contract now, it seems every company is leasing them. No money down is a very strong sentence in the US. And when the phone companies say "no contract " the fine print says that if you leave earlier than a certain time you owe the full price of the phone immediately. Sounds like a contract to me.
That's why my 4s will be in my hands until it just won't work at all (perhaps not as far off as I'd like that to be though). Even then, I may just go on craigslist and find a 5s from someone who had to upgrade so they can read Facebook on their giant tablet phone...;-)
I guess I'm realizing that most of what I do with technology that's not work or music related is surf the web, and I don't need a new MacBook or iPad pro for that.
When I had my iPad 2, a hand me down from my wife, who got an iPad 3 (which still meets every iPad need she has as a speech therapist), it was awesome, then I got auria and knew I'd need an upgrade to really make it work. I bought the air 1 the first day it was out, and although I wish I had gotten 128gb rather than 64, it's meeting every need I have from an iPad quite well. Until I feel that same "i can't make this work anymore for what I need" that I felt with iPad 2, I'm out of the upgrade game.
The best news from the keynote is that the regular iPad line didn't get an update. Definitely prolongs the life of the iPad Air and Air 2.
What we don't have yet are early swimmers. I will not be being one, but am interested to see responses from people I know something about once they are actually using apps we all use etc. Is the water lovely? Stagnant? Are there crocodiles or mermaids?
The improvements in processor speed is great, but I don't like it being so large. Maybe a new "IPad Pro Mini" would be 9.7 inch size like I'm used to....?...
@monzo reading your various posts where you mention Mrs Monzo I've suddenly come to realize that I must make sure never to call my wife "Mrs Noisehorse" She would poison my dinner!
I'd never call her that to her face, she's harder than me.
I really don't care if it has more memory and a faster processor given the limitations of the os and Inter app audio up to this point . Now if I could run more than one instance of an app like a desktop can with vst plugins... Then we'll talk.
Amen brother.
Nailed it
After my initial excitement wore down a little I still want an iPad Pro but IMHO Apple really should have prioritized other things here:
Instead of offering it in 3 different colors (at least no rose gold) they should have beefed up the storage more or at least offer a 64GB option. Certainly it wouldn't have been much of a problem to fit 256GB or maybe even 512GB flash storage in there either. But then of course being stuck with Lightning at USB 2.0 speeds for iTunes syncing and file sharing would be awful. It's already dead slow when copying 128GB. So maybe that's why they kept it at 128GB max. USB C would have been the solution here and would have opened up connectivity considerably. Also 32GB storage is still ridiculous for a 800€ device. Of course it's possible to get along for some people but where's the pro in that? They might as well keep it at 16GB because everybody will want 128GB anyways. They said the cpu and gpu performance surpasses >80% of PCs shipped last year but how about storage, connectivity and file management? iPad Pro lags so far behind most PCs and macs in that area and they should have done something about that. Really it should have USB C, 64/128/256GB and it should include the pencil. I couldn't care less about the colors, black front and silver back would be just fine. Gold? Seriously? Rose gold? Come on. And I don't care about internal speakers either. They might as well have a single mono speaker. There's no bass no matter what they do anyways, because bass needs more oomph than a tablet or a phone could ever produce. So for listening to or making music I always hook it up to headphones or a HiFi system. Financially I'm nowhere near buying it now anyways, but I hope the next model will finally deliver all these things. Probably not, though... :-)
I think the 32gb makes sense for some markets, those that will only use certain apps and don't store lots of files, but no 256 or 512, is a major limit to other markets.
One day they will merge OS X with iOS and then we'll have everything we have hoped for Don't know when. In 5 years?
To me, the iPad Pro looks like an experiment. Apple still don't know how to market it, what it's best for. They are trying to find out where the money is. Then they'll start adding new features. But I doubt they really care much about us, music apps users. The app market in it's current state will not attract big players (though I think there can be some exceptions) so why bother?
You can already do this... in Auria.
Which is why I wish more devs would make Auria plugins.
Rofl
weak women are boring
You sure you can do this in Auria? Like run three parralel versions of Thor at once?
Having seen the dual pane in action, well it looks a bit of a pain, sliding the panes looks tricky and not as fluid as scrolling, anyone else seen it in action.
Oh I see Auria plugins... Yah like how you can run multiple gadgets in gadget. not what I mean though.
Won't happen
but if you have ad480 pro, you get basic and free too, so you can have 3 times the same app, only the "same" app is 3 versions off the app by a different name, but that is the only developer I know of that uses that loophole ...
I have to say I don't really miss being able to open multiple instances of the same thing , it's not like there is a lack of instruments or fx
You're telling me! I am married to a 3rd degree black belt and am father to 2 black belt daughters... Most of my commentary about anything is said in private (or in song)!
For grooveboxes like egoist it is handy as you can record slicer/drums and bass seperately and simultaneously.
separate audio outputs form a single app and global aux sends would be very very nice
that would take care of a lot of things
@mrufino @monzo @lala so do we need a thread devoted to tactful descriptions of our wives and relationships we are blessed to have, and how lucky each of us are to have anybody at all??? I think I'll play it safe and ge back to making comments about apps, I don't want anybody getting ninja-kicked!
