Small things that irk you considerably

I spend (perhaps too much) time thinking about larger objects of irritation or contention with various apps, but then remember there are as many seemingly small options or lack thereof that irk me almost even more so, particularly when I feel the inclusion or improvement of them would (surely!) be simple enough for the developer.

I get more annoyed about strategic omissions ("they could if they wanted!") than I do clumsy design or code....as an example, and I welcome your own, I rarely use Garage Band and not just because of its (strategic) omission from the AB input slot, but because there's no simple fade in/fade out option. Yes, I can work around it, but only in a slow and mojo-killing way, (splutters in indignation) it pisses me off....

You?

    • Strategic omissions = Retronyms (each and every app they make).

    • Decent MIDI sync (guess that's not a small thing)

  • Volume automation in garage band would make it usable, it's a shame because the workflow is pretty good otherwise

-I would love 2 fx slots on Dublin in gadget, user samples in Kiev ...

-clock sync for the sequencer in Flux:fx, but from what we know it's on it's way

-An easier way to solo and mute tracks in Samplr, it's a little bit tricky right now

  • All apps need a magic midi button. I push it. And it does the midi stuff for me. You know so I don't need to understand how midi sync/clock all the funky stuff works.

Ok, maybe that isn't a small thing.

  • Interesting ideas. Let me make clear here, I'm not trying to hornet-nest this, just thinking of small things that developers may not recognize may be big things to some of us (and thus worth implementing) as far as current/new users are concerned....

  • I would like Thor to work every time for me. I know I would love it.

I would like to be able to delete Garage Band for not having fades.

I would like every app to just work in AB, every time!

I would like MIDI to be more caring so that I would lose less hair.

I would like apps to stop asking me to rate them when I just have.

I would like all apps to do mirror setting switches or something to make the setting viewable while changing.

I would like all circular knob movements to be banned!

    Lol

  • +1 for the volume automation in GB, and for it to work in the AB input slot.

User friendly EQ for Auria - using the current control strip EQ is akin to knitting with jelly, as is their 'input matrix'

I wish devs of some of the synths would add more presets in regular updates - e.g. Mitosynth, iMS20, Animoog, Addictive, etc. just to remind me to use them.

Auxy needs AB support...as does iMPCPro (hell freezing over etc.)

Thesys needs a UI fix to make it usable

Borderlands needs the Location Services fix they promised when it was released, like months ago

    etc.

  • Safari - The webpage self destructed so had to be effing reloaded X, a semblance of this message and it's almost constant consequences on websites I frequent, I'd say £ux#s my karma.

  • Ability to remove factory presets! Ban promiscuous midi! Better ability to export stems.

  • yeah every developer in the world can just go ahead and add copy paste, import, export, and delete mmmkay thanks.

  • Auria's IAA lists that make finding the app you want a nightmare.

Ah. I LOVE Auria. But this is a perfect example of how the 'small irks get writ large'. Perhaps my most consistent peeve. But also one that if fixed I would be in full huzzah-mode....

  • BPM adjustment on some apps is comically bad. 8)

  • Jamup pro constantly nagging me for rating, new purchases available etc.
A drag especially live where every button press is critical to economy of flow.
I thought upgrading to full usually got rid of ads. To me , these are ads. Rant over.

  • I gave up on GB when I realised it had no volume envelopes. Without them I couldn't see the point of it.

All three of these. Yes yes yes.

I'd like every list inside of every app ever to always be sortable by name, creation date, last modified date, size and (if relevant) type. Presets, samples, everything.

Help files that are only offered within the app and then lose your place when you go back. So, if you're trying to sort out how to do X, look it up, try part one of the process and go back to read about part two (ok, I have a tiny memory), you have to start over at the top of the help file. Make a PDF we can open in iBooks or use HTML in a webview with a cookie that remembers where the user was at.

I know it's a big one (dev wise) but apps that don't rotate wind up annoying me at some point or other.

  • Midi sync is my biggest frustration and apps that won't listen to each other. Spending more time to set things up, instead of making music.

I was thinking just this very thing the other day. I find GB very useful w/ AB, but with volume envelopes (and maybe a couple of others) and AB Out it would suit me better.

  • 48KHz of course. What on earth do I need 44.1KHz for?

  • I wish Audiobus didn't bomb out when I swap an FX or add another input channel...

Landscape not working properly with Audiobus on iphone

Ie: when you switch back and it changes from portrait everytime? Odd.

That’s a point — apps that are upside down! Why? What on earth is the point of making an app that is upside down, all the time.

  • Any app that considers iTunes File Sharing a fine export solution. It is not a fine export solution. It's a hassle. I'm looking at you, Beathawk, among others ...

It's apps that rely on iTunes File Sharing for export that led me to park it at 8.2, so I can at least have more controlled access via iFunbox, for now.

    We're working on that.

Super interesting thread by the way.

  • Gadget: High frequency roll off in Dublin and Phoenix in the lower registers. Why Korg, WHY?!

  • all the small minded people at my work. :-)

  • The taste of marmalade just after brushing your teeth.

  • Apps lacking standard iOS8+ features for dealing with files...

  • Every music app ever made should be on the 'Bus (Dr. Ohm!) and have a big blue "Import/Export to/from AudioShare" button on the primary screen. Period.

  • Developers should test MIDI sync with the major DAWs before releasing their apps.

  • As someone mentioned above, searching for an IAA FX/instrument to use in Auria is tedious and a pain. I think the way audiobus has it laid out is quite good. A-Z. Touch a letter to skip to that area. Slicker than snot.
