  • @knewspeak - I upgraded my iPhone and not my iPad. That's what I usually do…

  • A review I read was very excited but the extra features in notes.

    Thanks, very much appreciated.

That's not a bad thing to do but at times bugs are device specific.

Ok, will try that out. TY.

Holding down two fingers on the keyboard to trigger mouse like text selection. Huge improvement over the previous method.

oh, that's worth it all by it's self

  • On my iPad Air 2 I'm really digging PIP, split screen, and being able to move the cursor around and select text just like you would on a Mac. I also have it on my iPhone 6+ and on both devices the new Spotlight, accessibility features, and the improvements to Siri are really nice.

There is undoubtedly more things I will find useful but here's one that not many people have talked about that I'm already using. Whenever you are doing something in an app you can say "Remind me about this" from the Siri prompt and it will put a reminder in the "Reminders" app that includes a link and picture of the icon of the app in question. Clicking on that link opens up the app in question to exactly where you were before in that app. Sort of like state saving with Audiobus. It doesn't work in every app but it does work in some apps, particularly Apple's stock apps. I imagine more and more third-party developers will be taking advantage of this.

I only tried it with Magellan, as far as music apps go, and it said it wouldn't work. Once again since we already have state saving with Audiobus I'm not sure this would be necessary for music apps but it sure is useful for some other apps.

I also wanted to mention the new back button for previously used apps. Let's say you're using Twitter and you click on a browser link in a tweet that opens up Safari. When you're done looking at the webpage you'll notice a little back button in the upper left-hand corner that says "back to Twitter". This pretty much works this way everywhere.

All in all a nice update.

I checked out some of the features. I have no use for any of the features (though split screen would be nice) but I will try to check out notes. I use notes a lot but I use Microsoft OneNote (it syncs with all my devices and I got into it in uni. Its actually one of the most amazing and under utilized tools in the Office suite IMO. Though EverNote are giving them a very good run for their money)

  • @Polyboy you're right those are cool features. I got the reminder to work in my texts, calendar, and eBay actually but not notes or GarageBand. Pretty random thus far

There are ad-blockers for safari now :)

Thats a pain for people like me, who rely on ad-clicks to finance their sites. If other browsers follow suit you'll see a lot of sites closing down, or charging to view their content.

  • @monzo Ad blockers as in pop-ups? You can still have visible banners on your site then right?

  • iCloud Drive folder :-)

Finally I have access to my 200 Gb of space....

  • @Sinapsya Where's the iCloud Drive folder?

  • The first thing I did after updating my iPhone 6 was to type iClo.... into spotlight in order to find that app. It crashed there and does so each time I try it. I found how to get that app to show up now. It's a setting in the iCloud settings.

I'm using them since years, but advertising and tracking became so annoying lately it's unbelievable ...
I can't be bothered by that. I'm feeling free to say: no, thanks.
If you're catering to a tec savvy audience better find another business model.
These are mobile devices, not desktops where there is a lot of screen space. Web experience was terrible. Now it's okay again. :)

    I haven't checked, I don't use pop-ups though.

Apart from charging for reading content, there isn't one. My ad revenue has been dropping considerably over the last six months and as a result I've recently taken down about 30 sites, about half of the ones I've been running, which have provided a free service for the public. I'll be taking most of the rest down now, as they're making a loss. It's not a big deal for me as they never generated that much cash, and they were more of a hobby than a serious business, but if other sites are seeing the same falls then a lot of useful, free content is going to disappear.

  • I'm glad that you aren't taking a major financial hit hit but that is a bummer none the less

Publishers would be wise to offer bs free mobile sites, they don't, they have start pages that load megabytes of stuff, and load even more nonsense in the background I don't get to see.
And then they got the panic half a year ago, oh god ad blockers are coming to Mobil safari that they squeezed every annoying bit that they could possibly find to throw at you; and now they try to talk you into a guilt complex, my children are starving...

Who created this atmosphere of unpleasantness?
    The publishers.
    Who can end this?
    The publishers.

Now guess what won't happen ;)

It's nothing personal but can't f... with me.

Split screen is great. It is really two options: a swipe to the left on the right side of the screen for a quick view of an app, and a true split screen if you drag the split screen divider. So you can quickly view mail or calendar while remaining in whatever app you are in (even works on non Apple apps), or, have the split screen only for so far what appears to be only Apple apps (safari, mail, maps, calendar, messages, notes, etc.).

The 4x4 grid in folders is handy too.

Split Screen is nice, but, I miss the possibillity to view two apps in landscape mode but holding my iPad i portrait mode... Get it?

Yes. That would work much better for music apps. You could just open nave and ivcs3 and play them both like a 2 layer organ at the same time :)
nope. I just tried. Doesn't work you can't see what you are doing.

So you think publishers should give up their time to provide you with free content, plus pay all the maintenance and hosting costs as well?

You're living in lala land mate.

Fine if I can walk into a shop and be given free food, have free housing, transport, power etc., but unfortunately the World doesn't work that way so My sites have to earn their keep.

Wait.... i thought it was confirmed that this works? Does it?

  • Some sites somehow detect that your browser is blocking their ads and show you a polite message describing how important ads are and asking not to use any ad blockers. I usually disable Adblock on sites that I really like and visit regularly - want to support people who invest their time and money in creating and publishing useful and interesting content. I'm not talking here about big corporations like google and facebook that collect your data and sell it to third-parties or people who go crazy and place like 30 banners (annoying, often irrelevant, and sometimes even inappropriate) on a single pages
