Oh well. Thanks Richard.
One track, one effect at a time should be fairly stable.
I too found exactly the kind of probably Monzo had when previously trying to set up 3 different AB chains into Auria... After an hour or so I just gave up because it was so temperamental and I kept having to restart things.
Contrast this to MTD - which 'just works' - especially using IAA - and I agree that I hope AP gets this aspect a bit more stable.
I've never ever tried sending more than one AB chain into Auria, it just seems like asking for trouble on a mobile device. I do one track at a time, which is maybe why I have encountered fewer problems - but I naturally tend to work that way anyway.
Yep - fair enough.
It was just for my method of more live compositions... and in the end I found that I could hook 4 or more apps into separate tracks in MTD - each with IAA effects and just play all these different apps in live at the same time in one live take (using genome, a NanoPad midi controller, a beatstep, maybe even a second ipad for modulation etc...) - really very cool for one man jamming...
I see Auria more for careful studio work than multi-track in iPad recording..
That's not the issue, it happens, randomly, when recording a single channel.
I've just spent 30 minutes, desperately trying to get Audiostretch to play in Auria, via AB. I've tried loading in every sequence possible, rebooting, reloading, fiddling with the flipping matrix with no joy at all. Eject Auria and I can hear Audiostretch. Plug in Auria - silence.
The most annoying thing? It worked yesterday. Seriously, If anyone comes up with a viable alternative to Auria I'll ditch it immediately, barring that I'm waiting for the next Cubasis sale. Another wasted 30 minutes of my life I'll never get back.
@monzo yes I hear you, it's really strange that our experiences with Auria are so different, I rarely have issues with it, but you have them constantly. I have no idea why, but I don't doubt that your struggles are real and frustrating.
It might sound perverse, but I quite like the restrictive sound palette that Gadget has to offer. It makes me focus on the structure of the track more so. The integration and the immediacy of those synths and drum machines work for me.
I tried fiddling around with making loops etc in other apps, but the whole thing was a royal pain, so I gave up. Which is a bit of a shame, really.
That's the thing though, I've had no problems for weeks, but it's started playing up again over the last couple if days.
I just managed to get Audiostretch to pick up by booting up Auria, starting it playing, then opening Audiostretch and doing the same, then booting AB and loading them both in. Of course as soon as I put an effect in the chain all audio stopped, and after another 20 mins of trying every combo of booting sequences I couldn't get this chain to work. Which is doubly annoying as I've already recorded two tracks in this song with an identical chain.
Sebastian has suggested the problems I'm having are due to a known Apple audio issue, what I don't understand is why it's random.
That's an hour tonight wasted. Back to the bad old days again.
Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse, Auria has screwed up my song - it's now completely blank.
I updated Audiobus to a newer version to see if that'd fix the issues I was having and loaded in Auria. Instead of loading my song it tried to load 'untitled 1' and got stuck. I quit both, then opened the correct song and all the tracks are empty.
Update - Fortunately, I've recovered a snapshot, but not endearing me to this bloody thing.
Auria losing all the audio from projects permanently is why i got a refund. I am so hoping Pro resolves these issues as on paper it is ideal. I will likely jump in on day one... It is 50/50 though how I will feel on day three as the bugs were imediate but fingers crossed. Would really love to minimise pc daw time to finish things.
Gotta go into the matrix. It's worth it to get that nice Caramel effect into that one track permanently
I was able to do it with a Holderness effect (Stereo Designer) for a song about 6 months back, minus the live tweaking, but that shouldn't make a difference, latency-wise. In theory, that shouldn't be any different than moving a few faders quickly and recording the automation. For me, it turned out to be easy-peasy. Turns out the matrix isn't so bad. Never have been able to just straight record the wet, affected signal into the track using the long-press, but I only tried it that way once - probably just a page in their 375 page manual I missed
Typically, and especially until recently, this has been my experience as well. Auria has been a dependable workhorse with outstanding audio effects. I love it. But as I mentioned on another thread, it has been getting just a bit ... squirrelly ... for me lately. Just little random hiccups requiring reboots or quick workarounds, nothing major until ...
This exact thing happened to me about 3 weeks ago. Thank god for snapshots. I lost a few steps, but was able to output a mixdown. I believe I have a corrupted file at this point and will have to salvage what I can by starting a new project, saving settings as presets and reloading. To be perfectly blunt, I've been afraid to go in and rescue those 32+ tracks of 2nd song for an upcoming release. I'm pretty sure I know what I need to do, but ... yeah. Not endeared just now.
On the other hand, used it just fine for another, newer song since then, have worked on other projects already recorded since then, and everything's fine. Guess that's what I mean by a little bit ... squirrelly.
On the whole I still love it, wouldn't trade it for whatever, have used it extensively with Gadget, etc. But I think I'm about ready for Auria Pro, and hopefully some routine bug fixes for Auria NotPro (just in case Pro comes out before Xmas). Be sure to send in those crash reports, or at least the first one for a recurring problem. That's the quickest way to let them know ...
So how do you get the matrix to tell Auria to record the output of one track + it's IAA effects into another blank track? Any help much appreciated... Have tried but can't get it to do this.
You have to solo the track with the IAA FX, then in the blank track set the input to be the Master L/R (on the far right) in the Input Matrix. That's why it's far from ideal since you can't monitor the whole mix, only the solo track.
Ah... Got ya.
That's no good cos because I'd definitely want to automate to the beat.
@richardyot's got it re: using the matrix ... Oh! Doh! Now I remember how I actually did it, the one time I baked in my Stereo Designer - it keeps you out of the matrix, is super easy, but completely kills the hands on/automation you're looking for, Matt ...
But for the record, rusty memory now tells me the easiest way to record your IAA effects into a track is to solo the track, select mixdown from the menu, and under mixdown options tick the "import as new track" option. No muss, no fuss, and no opportunity to tweak parameters over time, alas.
Wish I could offer something more useful to your specific needs ...
Thanks guys. Richards AB method is the way then... As long as it behaves with AB.
Aurias just screwed up another song for me. One track was imported audio jam, with just one second track as an overdub - Borderlands via IAA. Added Timeless2 and Stereo Designer to each track - everything fine. Closed Borderlands to save CPU before mixdown, and all audio stopped. I could still see the recorded audio in Auria, even making the meters move, but no sound through headphones. Rebooted iPad 3 times - silence. Other apps working fine. 4th reboot and snapshot reload - audio back again.
Bonkers.
@monzo I've had the same thing happen with a completely different set of apps- several apps open and coordinated via AB, some midi shooting around, make a change in the setup, (usually in an app that is not as stable as others) all audio stops...
Yeah, the weird thing though is it was just Auria that was affected, all my other apps played fine.
I think I'm going to delete and reinstall Auria soon, maybe a fresh install will help.
