But how do you charge it while using headphones?
why do you care about the jack?
when the iOS device is in a case regular headphones don´t fit anyways because the jack is too big.
so you get a 2cm long adapter anyway.
it does not matter what´s at the end of the adapter as long as your cans fit into the other end of the adapter.
How do you get the synth sound into the iPhone?
I suspect the irig2 users out there wouldn't be too keen on losing the 1/8" jack.
I agree that the 1/8" is inferior to lightning for recording but I really don't detect the difference in quality in a live setting.
I use an Apogee Jam into an Apple CCK adapter, into the Lightning port.
So do I

Ditching headphone jack would force you to choose between audio out or MIDI in (or charging for that matter). Goodbye IOS music.
I have 2 ipods 1 x classic 1 x touch. On both the headphone jack is broken, so if they don't get rid of it they certainly need to make it more robust without making it bigger.
BT headphones for normal use (if the internal DAC is as bad as some are saying then the additional audio compression will not affect the quality) having the option of using external DAC via lightning gives best of both worlds.
I'm sorry ladies and gentlemen, Apple is not going to listen to petitions about this.
This is not correct, as long as you use a powered hub you can have midi IO and audio IO together, I do it all the time !!
agreed that charging is not available at the same time though, but that is the case at the moment anyway.
As for now you can at least charge and get audio out. And some of the very few workarounds for charging while using MIDI like the iRigs will also disappear. Mobility will greatly suffer as I see it. But of course, they could add another lightning port, if they wanted to make an improvement.
If you are charging are you not limiting your own mobility by being plugged in ?
I always dreamed of creating music underwater. Blub, blub, blub.
Of course. I was referring to the need for a powered hub for Audio + MIDI.
So true.
In the short term, your iDevice with the headphone out isn't going to disappear when they release the iPhone 7 (assuming rumor is true). So you just go on your merry way!
In the longer term, I bet you'll see MIDI i/o over BlueTooth take over and all sorts of audio I/O via lightning take over.
If you want to charge while moving audio in/out, then you'll have to use something like that IK Power Bridge or the iConnect Audio4+, etc.
So do I
I usually entirely dismiss the Apple rumor mill but this one has enough compelling factors at play that I don't dismiss it completely.
Either way, I don't think there is any reason to freak out.

The 19th century plug that's still being used. Cheers Andy.
How about both?
They're repeating it everywhere. I still don't think it's happening. It would be dumb.
No, but i still love me some music CDs, especially in digipac with illustration booklets. (and nah, tapes and vinyl not for me).

I must admit that I find iPhones to be the most overpriced tech item there is, just a tiny iPad. I'd never buy one, and get on fine with Android for my mobile.
Now, if Apple were going to mess around with the headphone socket for iPad's, I'd care much more. But, as has been pointed out here, nobody at Apple gives two hoots what any customer thinks. And won't until/unless economics force them to listen, which is a l-o-n-g way off.
I've gone over my quota on this topic in the rumor thread created by @johnfromberkeley where I indulged in highly speculative and dubious lines of reasoning.
I have to agree with @Sebastian on this. Apple may offer current iPhones with a headphone jack for some time, but the iPhone 7 will have more features and no headphone jack to advance their jack less strategy.
Thanks for link. i'm still in love/hate with how this forum is made because i'm much more a fan of oldschool way forums with categories, subforums, advanced search (with every needed parametres) etc. instead of this vanillaforums thing which has like 5% of functions that forums need.
Here's a story with two videos of iPhone 7 prototypes.
Doesn't really bother me. I'm always either using an audio interface or bluetooth headphones.
I say go for it....better sound quality is a good benefit using lightning port
If iPhone 7 will come without the headphone jack, my recently bought iPhone 6S will be my last phone from Apple... Period.
She's a mean grandma, but she's our grandma. You know how it is...
