Group The Loop: 2 Thumbs Up!
After multiple disappointments from several recent new app purchases, the streak is broken.
This is such a good little app. It is great for quick composition with little or no fuss.
Also, comes with a basic drum kit for standard beats and measures.
The user interface and app itself is almost dummy proof. I definitely recommend watching the video offered at the company's Youtube page.
You can also record the "whole" song combining various sample loops and full length vocals or lead instruments. That is what takes this to the next level of loop recorders. There is also A SIMPLE COUNT IN and CUE IN control situation. This is key. Several loop type apps failed to implement these and have relegated themselves to almost strictly vocal use. (IMO)
Anyway, this is a deal for this app. Super useful and easy to use.
For me, time is scarce and A.D.D. forces me to act quick upon ideas for songs. This app is great for that. It also has IAA and works good with AUM. (oh, that's not out yet is it?- sorry)
Message me if you have any other questions about this great app.

Thanks for the info on this app. I'm gonna look into it now!
It was such a nice surprise to have something just flow and do what it says and in a smooth way.
No updates or other IAP to make it work right.
I can see this being in my OUTPUT slop and LOOPY in one of the INPUT slots with 2 other INPUT apps for all in 1 recording and/ or performance scenarios once I get more comfortable with it.
It's a steal for this price.
Huh, ya that is an idea for a cool set up. I bought it. lol. Haven't checked it out yet.
I also broke down and bought the three Arturia synths. I don't know what the hell is wrong with me!?!?
As a guitar player already with I think over 80 synths, I just had to have 3 more? I like the sounds on them though, and they will provide to be useful in my arsenal.
I can't wait to dig into GTL!
Cheaper than a 69 cherry neck Strat!
Awesome!
ISEM is in my top 3 of all Synth apps.
Sound quality and it is the only one that is AU ready.
Prophet is limited for me. I rather use POLY6.
MINI is an ass kicker.
I only really use that in Tabletop though. I really should make an effort to use it more.
Hard though, I am attached to NAVE and ANIMOOG.
So, this is interesting. I first thought that GTL would replace Loopy in someone's setup, especially if they want some of the more song-structure-ish features that Loopy doesn't provide. But I can see why you might keep Loopy as the broad "catcher" for loops in the input slot as the interface is superior for live/on the fly type stuff.
At least until Loopy Masterpiece lands--or little pieces like groups lands in current-state Loopy...
There's a lot to like about GTL, at least based on the video.
Here is a nice 8 minute video that goes into more detail. Perhaps this is the video JohnnyGoodyear mentioned that is in app? Anyway It is good enough to peak my interest further.
I watched this immediately after buying and it helped so much.
Allowed me to know the app out of gate. No learning curve.
Unfortunately, the video doesn't cover the MIDI bindings. How is that accomplished and what can be bound?
Exactly.
IT IS COMPLIMENTARY TO LOOPY. YES
For me, I like to have multiple sample/loop operators cued any way. It's the DJ in me to always have the emergency dump and pump with any technical hiccup or unanticipated changes in the flow.
Albeit technical or creatively.
Insta buy!

I did it too. It's really cool!
Simply amazing!!!!! This is the looper for guitar players like me man! I am so happy i had some cash left over to get it. It has midi controls, well thought out all over, and best of all the price is right $6.99 what a deal!!! Background audio, etc etc.. Two thumbs up agreed 100%!!!!
Can wait to rock with this baby and the Sonic Port VX. Thanks for posting this.
Not wanting to pit an app against another, I am still curious on how it compares with for example LoopTree? Pro's/con's in comparison I mean. I understand the lack of drums, I am more thinking about the loop-a-bility and grouping etc.
Instant buy for me. Well, after watching that most excellent tutorial. The verse, chorus, bridge feature is golden. I've been doing this with Loopy from the beginning but I can absolutely see these two complimenting each other. Thanks for posting.
They're both special in their own ways. But i think GTL really has like a guitar players looper feel to it. I really appreciate that as most of the time, I use my zooms built in 40 second looper to get creative and stuff, but this one is light years beyond that. And now with the Sonic Port VX, I'll be in looper land for a ling time.
Wow. What a great product video. Music was perfect, just enough app detail, good music/voice balance. Sold. Why is that looper app videos always seem like the best? [1]
I couldn't tell from the video because I'm a terrible person an listened through my computer speakers: are the effects/mix on the master tracks scene independent? Was the LPF he added to the main percussion track only on the 'chorus' scene?
With nice wide tracks like these, I'm already wanting it to make use of multi-finger gestures. Like two finger up/down for volume, three finger tap for overdub or erase....
[1] It's true! For instance, Michael totally upping the game with 'watch as I build this' or getting DubFX to swing by (oh, and that little thing with Fallon)...
But not just Michael. The Everyday Looper developer is as entertaining as his app:
Another with good overview of some of the great gestures in the EL like a two finger swipe right, then left to undo:
That guy needs a sedative.
Has anybody figured out the MIDI part of this? I'm struggling... It seems to be buggy. At least for me I can trigger something in 1 out of 30 tries or so. Definitely something wrong here.
I just looked at iTunes info. It only mentioned about Midi Footpedal & control Group The Loop with your feet. Didn't see anything else. Would be handy if he added midi/link etc to it also. But from the vids, the app seems to have more depth than Loopy HD. But Loopy HD has better specs for Midi side of things, but bare in mind, Loopy HD has been around for a long time, so it's had more development put in.
The developer posted yesterday on reddit.com/r/ipadmusic and there I made two suggestions for changes: the ability to trim recorded samples and the ability to nudge any samples onto the beat. He indicated that trim was already in his plans, and was interested if others would find nudging to the beat (which we have in Loopy) useful.
Impressed by the video. IAA slot(s) for effects would be cool.
Yeah would be nice to have Link so I can start stop with other apps. I couldn't figure out how to enable sync. It usually says sync to drummer but that's the internal one.
I haven't tried it as IAA only via audioBus and it recorded RDM crystal clear. Also has anyone been able to do open in from audioshare?
It definitely exports loop to Audioshare.
The features list doesn't show Group the Loop as having any Midi Sync - just midi control options. Is that correct?
Correct. And MIDI controls are broken.
Hi there, swipe down on an empty loop to import from AudioShare, swipe down on an active loop to export. Also afraid AudioShare is IOS 8.1 or later only.
Also I'm planning on incorporating Ableton link in a future release.
Hi @Munibeast, not sure what's going on here, working fine my end. Is anyone else having this issue?
I'm keen to get this sorted, what MIDI device are you using? Also it would be useful to know what MIDI messages you are sending and what bindings you are setting them to.
Great stuff.
I tried it with iPad mini 4 and iPad Pro both on 9.2, using an lpd8 with cc's and an iRig Keys as well as a KMI 12 Step sending notes. The MIDI learn works normally but then the triggering only reacts sporadically. Seems like somehow the MIDI doesn't get passed through correctly or something. I tried mainly the global Play/Stop, separate Play and Stop, Select Previous/Next Group. I'll try some more.
Hmm... Currently GTL only supports midi note messages. Are you able to send out a single 'note on' command? Any other messages happening simaltaniously could be interfering. I'll look into this a bit more tomorrow and let you know what I find. Thanks for your help!
That's great news. And I imagine a very positive sales (as well as creative) plus.
Very pleased to see your video out there. As mentioned already I think you guys did a tremendous job with your help/tute inapp and potential folks are obviously equally turned on by being able to see your clarity of design and features in action.
