Has anybody figured out the MIDI part of this? I'm struggling... It seems to be buggy. At least for me I can trigger something in 1 out of 30 tries or so. Definitely something wrong here.

Hi Munibeast, not sure what's going on here, working fine my end. Is anyone else having this issue?

I'm keen to get this sorted, what MIDI device are you using? Also it would be useful to know what MIDI messages you are sending and what bindings you are setting them to.

I tried it with iPad mini 4 and iPad Pro both on 9.2, using an lpd8 with cc's and an iRig Keys as well as a KMI 12 Step sending notes. The MIDI learn works normally but then the triggering only reacts sporadically. Seems like somehow the MIDI doesn't get passed through correctly or something. I tried mainly the global Play/Stop, separate Play and Stop, Select Previous/Next Group. I'll try some more.

Hmm... Currently GTL only supports midi note messages. Are you able to send out a single 'note on' command? Any other messages happening simaltaniously could be interfering. I'll look into this a bit more tomorrow and let you know what I find. Thanks for your help!

What do you mean by single note event? Only note on/off with fixed velocity @ 127?
And the LPD8 was sending notes as well, not cc.

  • Super awesome!!!!! I knew I saw AudioShare in there but thought it was only for exporting loop. Super cool!!!

Link will rock in this Looper!
    Thanks for the support!

Yeah would be nice to have Link so I can start stop with other apps. I couldn't figure out how to enable sync. It usually says sync to drummer but that's the internal one.
I haven't tried it as IAA only via audioBus and it recorded RDM crystal clear. Also has anyone been able to do open in from audioshare?
It definitely exports loop to Audioshare.

I just looked at iTunes info. It only mentioned about Midi Footpedal & control Group The Loop with your feet. Didn't see anything else. Would be handy if he added midi/link etc to it also. But from the vids, the app seems to have more depth than Loopy HD. But Loopy HD has better specs for Midi side of things, but bare in mind, Loopy HD has been around for a long time, so it's had more development put in.

Hi there, swipe down on an empty loop to import from AudioShare, swipe down on an active loop to export. Also afraid AudioShare is IOS 8.1 or later only.

Also I'm planning on incorporating Ableton link in a future release.

  • Just watched the video. What an impressive app. Where's me wallet...

CC would be good for using iRig Blueboard, btw. And AirTurn would be nice as well. I have the PED which only has 2 switches but it could be useful as an additional pedal.

I tried some more things now but still only get a successful trigger very sporadically. Restarting and reinstalling GTL didn't change anything. So I'm looking forward to your findings, @jmarshallgtl.

  • Just watched most of the video again. Think the thing that is most impressive is that for someone who has spent a (presumably) long time deep in the nitty gritty guts of the app, is his ability to forget all of it so that the app can be explained the way an end user needs to hear it. I fail at this regularly (too close so I share the wrong details).

Agreed. I like the app, but have spent more time thinking about the video/tutorial :)

  • Hasn't anybody else tried to use a MIDI controller on this yet? I'd like to know if I'm the only one having problems.

  • I'll try mine

I have a hunch but it's tricky to know for sure without testing with your device.

Looks like GTL won't respond to a note on event if it's very quickly followed or preceded by a note off event. I mean we're talking milliseconds here. I wonder if your device is putting out a note off straight after you trigger it. My behringer fcb1010 works perfectly but it doesn't send out a note off until you lift off the pedal.

I will put out a fix for this as soon as I can although for now are you able to disable note off events?

I don't think that's what it is. I tried doing looooong presses too. I'd be glad to test a beta for you. And the weird thing is that the MIDI learn has no problem detecting the notes I'm sending. There must be something else going on.

Exactly the kind of thing that makes this forum special.

Thanks @Munibeast, PM me your email and i'll add you as a tester.

  • Good purchase indeed, great with the classics, like Animoog and ThumJam.

  • i think I asked somewhere before but can't find it now, does this have panning and can you trigger loops with something like an launchpad mini?

  • @kobamoto Panning yes, trigger I don't know.

    Aha!

    I told you guys!

  • But if Loopy Mastermind released tomorrow...

  • ok i see it's got panning, but what about playing with a launchpad, , and wow this is the closest thing to ableton session view on the iPad. He's already got the ability to set up recording on the next pad after the current one is finished..... (this is very close to follow actions and would take minimal tweaking to add several follow action options)
in the ableton session view each clip can have it's own bpm, and swing...., .... this app looks brilliant though as it is, but it's also so close to that one little ableton-ish app that is missing on iOS and just waiting for some dev to make a boatload of payolaaaaa on.
Mr. Marshall looks like he's ahead of the curve if he decides he wants the prize!

  • I decided to become a collector of looper apps. And Synths. And drum machines. And....

  • and hopes...

    Buy low, play high.

  • Very well laid out looper! Great job JMarshall!

  • This developer has set the bar high and done a fine job.

And within a day of the app coming live on Audiobus he is on the forum already.

That is what we need. First class app, first class dude who made it.

    Props

  • I kind of wish when panning you're able to have a numerical insight of where you're at.specially nice would be to double tap to have the track auto center the panning.

  • nice idea t4c

Great ideas, i'll add them to the list.

  • Another one I caught myself looking for was the ability to solo a loop. I know there's a way to mute and play the group but what if you just wanted to solo a loop when playing in real time. Like maybe solo group, and solo loop? I think it would be useful.

  • By the way when one leaves a review and say I give the app 5 stars, why is Always blank when I bring it up again? Ifbi gave it 5 stars it should remain at 5 stars right?
