  • Ordered the pencil for my Pro over a week ago. Should get it in another 2-3 weeks. Guess they're on a slow boat from China.

A great option for the Pro would be able to scale the interface to your personal preference like in Ableton Live

That would be great but it's probably much harder to do. Ableton's gui is so minimal that it probably lends itself better to customized scaling. I think having the old size and the new one as a choice would be a great compromise. And it's already programmed. Only needs a toggle in settings.

  • There's an option to switch on or off the iPad Pro optimizations in the settings.

That was actually the harder thing to implement. iOS forces developers to decide ahead of time whether the app will use the native Pro resolution, and it can't be switched later. I had to do a lot of tricky scaling to allow that to be switched back and forth in the settings...

  • I bought my iPad Pro 2 weeks ago and I'm in love lol

I was thinking about it 39475957 times a day when it was first announced.

Just like everyone has already mentioned, the size and the power does it for me. I also have a keyboard cause I do a lot of writing.

Watching movies, designing and gaming all feels pretty good on this model.

I'm broke but I glad that I bought it lol. At the very least now I can sleep at night

@WaveMachineLabs Since we're on the topic of both Auria and iPad Pro, I had a quick question. Do you suggest we use 64-bit Mixer option in the settings? When I click yes that warning pops up so I'm always skeptical if I should have it on. Thoughts?

  • On 64-bit iPads (iPad Air and above), it makes little difference in CPU usage to have it on. That message is left over from the days where it made a big difference...

  • I picked one up a few days after they went online. Here in the US they were so back logged, peeps were going local stores and sagging up all the ones they could find , only to sell online of hundreds of dollars. Some people were paying 300+ for this gadget!

It is is nice thing to have and is worth the wait....

  • In case anyone likes to draw I can highly recommend getting the pencil and the app procreate. It's unbelievably great and at €5,99 an incredible value. If you recalculate the €109 for pencil and €5,99 for the app to something like €89 (pencil) + €25,99 (app) the pencil doesn't look all that unaffordable anymore and the app would really be worth that price imho.

Also Adobe apps do great thing with the pencil if you get used to switch from one to another while autodesk ones are awful, sadly, since the ability to use layers on sketchbook pro was pretty useful, which Adobe sketch hasn't.

  • heck if you just like to tap on the screen and onto small parts with a finer resolution than your finger (not to mention less fingerprints on screen!) the pencil is still worth it!

it is amazing what you can do with procreate and that pencil though... wow...

  • Is there a big difference in the experience of using IAA instruments? More reliable? Not constantly running into CPU issues?

I've had a glorious time mixing the final five songs for my latest project in Auria Pro on my iPad Air. But the process of actually getting ideas down is still a very mixed bag, and that tends to extinguish the creative spark. I've tried to build up a workflow that compensates for my Air's limitations, but it's a challenge. I know there's nothing we can do about the lack of state saving in IAA, but I'm imaging more stable synths and less CPU worries would ease much of the pain.

  • Right now I'm working on this project:

VirSyn Poseidon(2-3 voices, flanger, chorus, reverb)
Genome(3 channels written down + 1 for live input/undefined next part)
Elastic Drums(2 voices, 2 mono fx, 1 stereo verb)
IK SampleTank(Miro Cellos and Soft Violins loaded)
    Sunrizer(the undefined next part)

Each one on his audio pipeline in Audiobus for future FX

Routed through Auria Pro on separate tracks with:
LP and Band Boost on the orchestral part(in Italian those instruments are called "archi", dunno if it is the same in English)
    HP on Poseidon
Some compression on ElasticDrums and band cut
    Aux1 loaded with convoLuton reverb

MIDI Clock from Genome(dunno if this was the best choice ever)

Everything is working pretty fine for the moment, having some glitches while on pattern view in Genome which disappear as soon as I switch to another app.
Considering that Poseidon, SampleTank and ElasticDrums are pretty hungry on resources I really can't complain.
Gotta report some crashes and audio engine freezes when adding new apps to this chain.

  • Is there any way to charge the iPad pro using the smart connector on the side and simultaneously connect it to a USB hub for midi/audio peripherals?

  • Apple site says:

...and connects to iPad Pro with the Smart Connector, an innovative new interface that allows for a two‑way exchange of power and data.

If two-way means bi-directional, then it seems it might be possible to charge the iPad pro via the smart connector?

  • Smart Connector sends power to keyboard and receives keystrokes. We don't have any evidence that Apple has allowed any more than this.

But I agree it would be great if they opened this to 3rd party devices beyond just keyboard usage.

The pencil is one of the reasons I would upgrade.

It seems that the latest iOS 9.3 beta let you update also your connected accessories via the connector.

And which accesories might that be apart from a keyboard ?

Well.... still nothing ;) But at least it´s more open for the future!

  • But what about AU performance on the pro ?
What's the CPU hit compared to the AIR 2 ?

  • Yesterday I´ll bought myself the new iPad Pro...

Coming from an iPad Air 2, so the differens is´nt that clear, but, the screen size and the pencil is really nice!

But, 14 hours later my iPad Pro has´nt loaded the home the 62 GB iCloud backup from my "old" iPad...
    Waiting waiting waiting...

I´m a little disappointed with Apple that they should use the big desktop-screen better...?
Only sex icons in the dock? Come on, it´s 2016 now!
I hope Apple someday take a whole new grip on the desktop system with icons and the way the system appears...

It was the release of Kymatica AUM who made me switch to a new iPad Pro!
It worked very well on my Air 2, but, now I can made fantastic thing!

    Rock on dudes!
