There was an interesting post from "blip interactive" (NanoStudio developer) in his forum a while ago regarding to cpu performance....
"With regards to audio performance on the new devices, it's not always better. iOS limits the CPU clock speed based upon how 'busy' it thinks the device is, but a big problem is that it only looks at the main thread, which is the one that most apps use to do their UI and other work. Audio apps are different though - they do most of their CPU work in a high priority audio thread and try to spend as little time as possible on the main thread. Therefore, many audio apps run at only 50% of the possible speed because iOS thinks they're not very busy. New devices (eg. iPad Air) are capable of running at only 25% speed and so iOS chooses this rate and they actually end up running slower than the older device (which may have a slower processor, but at least it's running at 50% instead of 25%).
NanoStudio has a hack to work around this (the Maximise Audio CPU option), which generally (but not 100%) succeeds in making iOS run the CPU at full speed although the UI is no longer so smooth. This was handy on older devices but probably never needed on the newer hardware, even if it does run at a slower speed. I thought I'd be able to get rid of it in future but it may now be needed more than ever!"
...not sure how it works now with iOS 9 and the latest idevices?!
ugh thats depressing to read
Interesting, I wonder if this will be addressed in future iOS upgrades, now the audio spec is getting some attention (with AU etc)
+1 on the ugh.
I do hope it isn't quite that severe...
I'll never go back to the smaller one now, most likely. Not much of an increase in weight, has a lot to do with it.
The Pro is very nice.
I always thought the Air was just a hair small. Not bad at all, really just a close call.
