the level of a message board is the sum of the the level of its members. You decide in which direction it goes. Everyone is responsible for their actions. In life, on a message board.
that's a good one. Made me laugh.
valuable view about biology/evolution. Which has not much to do with the topic, but very appreciated by me.
Very funny - made me laugh a lot... On topic in so far as how civil things were 'before'.
no we don't, go to hell!
Pentax!
Pricing discussions are totally fine. We've had gazillions of them. Some of them have been heated but most of them have been civil. That said, the forum does not really suffer app/pricing entitlement kindly.
I had a Pentax Q and a full set of the lenses for it including the fisheye. It was a surprisingly good camera (even has DNG format as the native raw format!). I ended up part exchanging it last year for my secondhand Sony RX10. It’s not often I get rid of stuff, but I literally wasn’t using it any more and it shaved a beneficial amount off the Sony so that I could then afford it. Pentax user interface and .dng saving are both very good features, although they’re now Pentax Ricoh, under Ricoh Imaging. People like their usability.
Well, on a certain infamous image board this type of thread starter would be labeled "bait".
But, being sincere now, I can say the AB forum is very friendly and helpful and the minor flame volleys that pop up are frankly mild compared to forums of several different genres.
The Les Paul Forum (I believe that's the one, there are two big LP boards) is notoriously snarky, but it can make for an amusing visit every other month. There are some wrestling/WWE forums that are as hardcore as a forum can be, but that kind of goes with that genres schtick. Last example are the myriad of boards dedicated to politics/current events frequented mainly by Gen Yer's. I actually enjoy the rough housing on those, I will give as good as I get. Although there can be some residual guilt late at night from dropping the C-bomb on some Right Wing soccer mom...
This forum is a great resource and I dig that the topic is pretty much iOS music production as a whole and not just AudioBus functionality. If get lit up for asking a dumb question or daring to question the power of Auria Pro then give the person a receipt... Fire with fire my good man.
And then came LOMO, a few years to go till y2k ...
Recently I've been trying out those cheapo clip-lenses for iphone, for expanding to wide angle or macro etc. and couldn't notice much difference, although the polarize filter will get some use probably.
I don't care if people get offended, I'll be here as long as no beat machines get harmed, besides in my daily life I greet people by close lining them the moment we meet, but on the internet under my cloak of anonymity I feel immensely confident which allows me to easily be polite and courteous to everyone I come in contact with.
I've updated the thread title to match the current topic. You're welcome.
Is this now about wrestling? sigh
more like proper spelling or the lack there of, oh yeah and I like taking pictures of beat machines.... ok that should do it.
Shame we seem to have lost another member, I can't remember who started this thread, but they are now listed as "Deleted User". Didn't see anything worthy of deleting an account, in fact the discussion ended up being very positive.
Was it the wrestling talk?
It was Paul. He wanted me to delete his account because he felt that his experience of the 'civility' on this forum is vastly different from everyone else's. I told him he'd be welcome back anytime.
Well that's a shame. If I played any part in that I'm truly sorry.
He was also not very happy about people posting their tracks in the general forum, instead of creations. By my estimation that was about 50% of the reason. Don't feel too bad fellows.
I always miss this stuff, being completely consumed by sample import/export and panning will do that you I guess
This is still a shame. He was pretty helpful and insightful to many of us, me included.
I think members of this forum are pretty civil towards each other but they don't shy away too much from trashing apps or developers. Doesn't happen often at all and I think in some cases it is justified. But every now and then there's comments that I think should not be left unchallenged.
Paul did talk about leaving prior on another thread. He was indeed a helpful chap.
Photography? I'm a Canon user mostly. Started with an A1 in the '80s and have a 70D now. I still have many FD lenses and a vintage F1.
I still have a Canon AE1Program and a Pentax SuperA rotting away in the attic
I know Paul is gone, but does anyone else remember when Audiobus forum disagreements were reconciled via improptu youtube performed apologies? Anyone else even remember that?
I remember that @Hmtx, although I don't recall who was involved or what it was about.
Another thing I like about this forum is that there are several who have been on here for several years now, and many new faces as well. Combined, it makes for a very interesting community. I wonder what the average lifespan of a forum is.
Shame about Paul. He had some great feedback and seemed like a very likable fellow. I know I'm guilty of putting compositions in the general forum. Often, they're more of an example, so they can go either way, but more often I just forget to choose the category.
@funjunkie27 Nice! I think it was Ryan from @iOS_MARS and someone else. I kinda miss Ryan's input here, often raw but always genuine. Anyway it was a typical internet spat, followed by someone saying sorry and singing a song about it. It was remarkable.
Almost the kind of thing to make a forum rule: Youtube face-to-face apology or get banned :-b
Really though, it is nice to know that sort of rule isn't necessary. Good to have a place where decency and respect are still largely given precedence over "expressing yourself" without regard of others. I think that is still largely true. The hard part is for established members to stick with newcomers while they work thru appropriate ways to interact here. Its easier to just get pissed and respond with equal disrespect.
In the end I think we've got enough "core members" who get the unspoken decency rules. I'm not worried about the forum degrading. The overall iOS music topic is still engaging enough that we can get past our differences and largely stay on topic helping each other out.
I haven't been here long enough to have memorized many names, but there are some posts on a couple of the threads I've started that were helpful, but now say "deleted user". Guess that was Paul? Shame.
Thought it was funny that the thread title changed. Got a chuckle out of that, but was also surprised how many photographers are here (like myself). I've really felt like a fish out of water here since my expertise is primarily from 35+years of photography, and a film degree. I'm told I have a real talent and it often comes easy to me without much effort, but I've always secretly wished I could play music. All of the last decades worth of bringing audio production to laptops and mobile devices has finally got to the point where I can play around with soundscape composition. Or, at least try.
My profile says I joined in 2013, but I scrolled back and it was only to clear up confusion about the AudioBus version 1 to 2 upgrade. Otherwise, I've only been here about a week I think, and it's cool there appear to be several here with photography backgrounds.
Also, didn't realize there were actually different categories until I read @Sebastian say Paul was upset about posts not going into their proper forum category. Seriously didn't even notice those. I've only started 3 threads and they've all been in the General category. Should I try to move them? Or is it no big deal?
I think you're right @Hmtx. I was thinking it was Ryan as well, and it is a shame that he doesn't frequent it as often.
I recall being on the iPB-10 forum (anyone have or remember that one...a multi-effect pedalboard with an iPad for the interface), and it pretty much unraveled due to the more immature members taking control.
I don't see the AB forum losing any steam, which is a good thing. Not only due to the majority of forum members usually maintaining the civility, but also with Sebastian and Michael allowing us to discuss topics well outside AB.
I love my F4; absolutely wonderful camera.
Mine was cool because it had the rotating flash cube!
That's our second deleted Paul by my estimation.
