I bought it within minutes of going on the store, it's a lovely piece of work! I hadn't appreciated it is from the same stable as AudioShare, which I'm just starting to use, so it's great to see the integration. I don't have an iOS DAW yet so this is all very handy! A question though, I can't see a way to load a track from the iTunes library as an input - is that right? Do I have to duplicate them all in AudioShare ? Is there a better way to do it without duplication? Thank you!
Thanks!
Yeah, you can already have a master keyboard, but unfortunately it's a bunch of taps to switch: Tap the menu button next to an IAA/AU node, and choose the midi route symbol. It will open a list of possible MIDI sources for this node, where you can select your external keyboard. But then you will need to deselect it in similar way from other nodes.
You can also open the MIDI matrix in the main menu, where you can more easily see and change the connections.
Any suggestions for how to make this faster are welcomed! Perhaps the built-in keyboard could also be a MIDI destination, so you'd connect your external keyboard to that one only once, and then playing the external would also play the built in keyboard?
The built in file player currently only has access to the AudioShare library. So yes, you'd need to import an iTunes song into AudioShare first to be able to use it. I might add more import options straight into AUM later, but at the same time all this is already handled by AudioShare.

Thanks @j_liljedahl - I'll go with AudioShare to start with then and see how things go!
Oops. Just bought it. Amazing work, fast interface. I cannot for the life of me get gadget to recognize the transport controls though. Works in studiomux so let me know if there's anything im missing
Thanks! I don't have Gadget so can't try it out, but AUM sends host transport state and clock, then it's up to the hosted apps to listen to it or not. Chances are Gadget is not listening!
damn... can we merge these threads, please?
That would be great, then it would be just two taps to switch instruments, works for me!! Another possible solution would be on the channel name, one tap to select it and receive notes from the keyboard, two taps, or long press to edit, since editing the name wouldn't be somethig that you would need to do while playing. And, the same as you have the main Midi control input, you could have a Midi notes main input, that would send midi only to the selected channel, what do you think?
Purchased it immediately! Congrats on the launch, @j_liljedahl !
Really impressed by the design of this app. Much like with AudioShare, it feels "reverse engineered" from the perspective of an iOS musician wondering "well, why can't there be a way for me to be able to do THIS?". Also similar to AudioShare, I think I'll still be learning new things that it does months from now...haha.
The recorder has some neat features - finally a metronome with count-in!!! And I absolutely love the MIDI keyboard, even on a small iPhone screen - worked immediately for me.
Was "Sync Quantum" discussed anywhere? You set it to a number of bars, but I couldn't see if that did anything other than change the speed of the visual "loop" indicator bar near the top of the screen.
Is there a way to set the recorder only to record a pre-determined loop length?! That was one of the key things I always wished AudioShare did, but instead I had to use the snap trim feature to cut the loops down to size. Recording a set number of bars would make this insanely useful for loop recording, and with AUM (even more than AudioShare), now you seem to have the architecture to do it.
Thanks!
My only concern is studiomux audiobus and ableton through a midi interface are all able to send transport that gadget responds to. Are they handling transport in a different way? The problem seems to be that if aum determines something is a generator instead of an instrument it won't send clock to it. Same problem with modrum and caustic on quick testing. Other apps don't have this restriction. Not trying to be a pain but as I'm exploring it seems clock is not sent to any app listed as a generator
BUT the workaround is to enable network midi and route aum midi out to that. That seems to get these devices working. So I can make it work but it's worth looking at at some point to see if there's a missing piece that's preventing the direct communication
@j_liljedahl
Wow and many thanks, all this and universal too? Incredible, dude.
@j_liljedahl
There are few products that combine utility and beauty in one package (the best Apple products spring to mind). AUM is both useful and beautiful. A joy to use. Thanks.
Agree on the metronome! Also very interested in the ability to record pre-determined loop lengths....I am not a 'live' player and I have next to no idea what I'm doing (so far), but this is going to ruin any prospect of getting work done this morning
Very, very interested to know what Mister @supadom makes of this....
Yes, something like that. The MIDI Notes main input would essentially be the keyboards MIDI input.
Actually you can already double-tap the menu button next to an IAA/AU node to assign the keyboard! Thanks to Geert at Moog for this suggestion
Thanks!
http://kymatica.com/aum/help.html#Sync_Quantum
So if you start a file player, or start recording, while transport is rolling, it will wait until the next sync quantum.
That's on my TODO already! But will be solved by using synchronized end-of-recording just like it currently syncs the start. So starting recording and then stopping it will make it record exactly one sync quantum (default 1 bar).
Not true. AUM sends host clock and transport state to all IAA nodes (and AudioUnit extensions), regardless if they are generators or instruments, or effects or music effects.
Sorry, but I'm not sure why or how that would change anything. If Gadget responds only to MIDI start/stop/clock, that wouldn't help since AUM does not send MIDI start/stop/clock! If it does indeed help, then maybe enabling network midi in Gadget also enables it to listen to host sync? (Which makes no logic sense, but could be a bug in their app).
I think by this time Jonatan wishes that his beta testers had forced him to implement this feature before launch
Sorry!
@j_liljedahl - just registered here to say - Wonderful! - thank you for this elegant and workflow changing app. Piece by piece you are changing my iOS music making experience.
If I could make two small requests: (after you've taken a well deserved rest) - can we have multiple instances of Sector at some point in the near future (AU?) and also can we have it so that AUM appears in an OS9 style slide-on side window thingie?
Cheers,
Saul
Egoist will start playing when you hold a key (between c2 and d#3) down if you connect the keyboard to egoist interapp channel 1
It doesn't seem to respond to the transport controls though (unless there's a setting I'm missing)
I too bought and dabbled briefly before going into work but I had a lot of problems playing with iSem. Absolutely no sounds and would constantly crash, as in every single time, 2 min max. I'm not sure what the deal is. I'm on iOS 9.something iPad mini 2. That's all the info I have for now. I'll reinstall it when I get a sec. Anyone else have this problem?
Mind blown! Makes my live workflow so much easier.
I don't think this is the problem, but make sure the volume level on iSem is not too high and causing the levels to run hot. This can cut the sound of an iPad. I doubt this is the issue you are having though. Just thought I would say it just in case.
Beautiful piece of work @j_liljedahl .....like many others, I'll need to wait until after work to put it through its paces, but initial impression was "Wow"!
Can I ask, does it have multiple IAA outputs? One for each channel?
Same question for AB - multiple outputs?
And can you record, somehow, multiple separate tracks direct into Audioshare - simultaneously (ie during a live performance)?
Yes, not sure how iAA ouputs work yet though (or maximum) as I'm just using hardware outputs currently when connected to my interface. Also yes you can record separate tracks simultaneously into Audioshare, and then load them onto other tracks in the mixer, the file player is a gem.
There are four IAA/AB outputs total at this time. But It is kinda strange how they work. You have to launch the IAA/AB nodes in other apps before they appear in AUM. Still trying to figure out how to do what I want yet.
It took about 10-15mins of poking around and reading a few excerpts from the help file...
but... DAYUM!!!!
and it's just V1.0?!
Stellar and certainly Award-Winning
It's the BEST $10 I've spent in good awhile. Definitely worth full price of $20
Stuff that hasn't worked right for awhile, all work perfectly inside AUM.
Thrilled with this app.
ok yeah that makes sense. You can load the 4 IAA nodes in Auria pro for example and output into there utilising Fabfilters etc
Universal app. Excellent. Now on my phone and pad.
