That's great! Yeah, given the way you described Sync Quantum, the next logical feature would be that the recording cuts out at the end of the pattern. Once you have that capability, AUM becomes a major workhorse. I could see doodling ideas in 1-4 bar loop lengths on my iPhone, and then fitting them together like jigsaw later in a DAW (either on phone or iPad). All of this currently possible, of course, but not without some additional trimming and editing. Cutting out even a step or two really makes the app more useful. Thanks for the feedback and your continued work on improving your apps.
I was excited about using IAA and AU effects in AUM, but missed that AUM itself has a few basic EQ and gain-related effects. The saturator is great, and all of these are incredibly useful for simple tweaks to input sounds you are otherwise happy with.
The FilePlayer (which opens as its own mixer channel!) blew my mind! The fact that you can record something with a quanitzed start point, and then set that to play back as you record other things in sync...wow. Like I said, once you add the ability to set the stop point of recordings (thus creating a perfect loop automatically, the way AudioShare allows you to do manually), then this becomes an even more massive tool. It's not exactly a DAW, but features like this bring it pretty darn close. People are going to think of ways to use this that even Jonatan couldn't have imagined while designing it.
Remember you can trim locking to bars in Audioshare.
just bring Loopy into the project to set your loop length and record loops into that. Then you could copy and paste into the file player if you neeeded, or just use Loopy for playback.
Mmmm, I fired it up but AUM sees hardware inputs of my AKAI EIE as stereo pairs rather than individual mono ins. I also can't seem to be able to select loopy hd as an output. Am I not understanding something about the way AUM works?
Ah yeah, congrats @j_liljedahl !
This is what I'm trying to wrap my head around right now. I think I can only capture via AudioBus in Loopy right now and then play the Loopy output as a channel in AUM. What would be ideal is if I could capture whatever mixing tweaks I've made in AUM to the captured loop in Loopy. Still noodling on how that might be accomplished with busses...
This the best implementation of AU yet, you can move the window easily around the screen and shrink the box size. Not only that but ISEM is fully midi learnable.
Landscape and Portrait layouts... Longer faders... It's the little things. Great great app

Just did this layout with 12 loopy channels 2 busses for delay and reverb, and a master fader with filters and turnado, will try it out later
I was prepared to pay more than a $9.99 intro price. I feel like I got another deal of the century.
Congratulations on the excellent and beautiful app Mr. @j_liljedahl .
Q: This is probably something basic but I can't figure it out... I tried several of my favourite apps and noticed that most have the AUM logo somewhere, (so I can return), but others don't. If I load such app I can't get back into AUM, without shutting the app and restarting AUM again.
Why doesn't the logo show up on all apps? (Like in AB side bar)
I actually prefer mini logo to the side bar, but not all apps have it. Is there some setting for that?
Effectrix works great, as midi unit (didn't in AB.)
Thanks! Just saved me a bunch of time doing the same.
A bit OT but anyway:
@j_liljedahl
There seems to be a problem with the AUFX bundle in the appstore at the moment.
When I Select it, the Buy button just disappears, and I can't go on.
There has been issues with other bundles recently. Anyone knows what's going on ?
Thank you for this awesome tool, I'm really enjoying it.
How do I do a mono recording? I'm trying to record my bass and I'm only given the option of choosing a stereo pair of inputs?
What the best way to use the keyboard of one program (Musix Pro) to control iSEM or equivalent sound generator?
Does the limiter introduce latency?
Any plans to include pads or landscape keyboard in iPhone?
As a Swed I`m very proud of a guy like Mr. Liljedahl!
Despite the small size of Sweden (approx 9,9 Million PPL) we have a lot of talented boys & girl in the "music industries"!
Thank`s Kymatica!
Hmmm... have several inter-audio apps that fail to load into AUM for some reason. They launch by themselves fine. I've done what the AUM screen suggests, ie. launch app, then double click home button, swipe to close, then reload.
I've tried deleting and reinstalling each app, as well as deleting AUM and reinstalling. No luck.
Also tried some of them on that are on the iPhone5 and they won't load there either, so it's not just my iPad Air2 install.
I've tried a hard reset as well with no luck.
The IAA that won't launch/load in AUM, do launch fine in AudioBus or solo.
The apps I've found so far that aren't loading in AUM are DFX:MultiFX, Samplr, Node Beat, and Gestrument
Also, I have 4 different synths. 3 of them will play through AUM's built-in keyboard but Synthcaster won't. I've checked to make sure the midi channel is correct, and tried all the other possible midi settings in AUM & Synthcaster but nothing seems to work.
Anyone else finding apps that work fine alone, or in AudioBus but consistently fail to launch within AUM?
I'm going to post this on the Kymatica forum, but @j_liljedahl doesn't appear to be tending it quite yet.
Samplr Works for me if I open it before trying to load it on a channel
He's napping.
Same here, Alchemy completely crashes AUM, Cassini seems to have a stuck note that I couldn't get rid off.
iDensity emits loud noise with other apps.
Some apps don't have the AUM logo to return back to it. Anyone knows?
That works for all I listed, ie. launch them first outside of AUM, then add them within AUM.
Tried that with Synthcaster but didn't help. I've tried setting Synthcaster's midi control to OMNI and single channel on the channel AUM has set, but that doesn't work either. I would say that likely I have something set wrong, but I have no problem with the other 3 synths I have. They all play fine with the AUM built in keyboard. One of them is at least 3 years old too. For some reason either Synthcaster doesn't like AUM, or the other way around. Or, there's some setting that's not right on my end.
Haha, indeed!
I've been testing AUM with iSEM (and the developer of iSEM has been testing with AUM) for a long time before iSEM was launched, and we had no problems. Sorry but no idea what might be wrong there. Try a reboot, it often helps when things are weird!
The IAA/AB outputs are the same, there's 4 separate output ports for the moment. But I can easily expand this in a future update if there's a need for it.
Yep, separate tracks, mixes, or any combination thereof!
No, the IAA/AB outputs are always available, even when not connected. When disconnected, they are striped red, and turn into a nice looking icon when you connected them.
The Audiobus inputs though needs to be connected first in Audiobus for them to show up in AUM, naturally, since AUM doesn't know what you're going to connect to it yet
The first time I ran AUM, I had forgot to restart my iPad. After a restart, the DSP meter had gone down considerably. I've got most background tasks disabled, but iOS does have a habit of not shutting down things and freeing RAM properly.
Recently I had some apps causing crackles in Audiobus that usually work well. It took 3 restarts before it went back to normal.
All channels in AUM are stereo, but you can easily pick only the left or right mono channel, or a blend between them, by using the Stereo Processing -> Stereo to Mono node. For mono output, just use a stereo balance or panner!
Inter-App Audio in itself has no concept of output ports, you'll need to hook up AUM -> Loopy using Audiobus!
Thanks
I just bought the bundle here in the states and had no issues. They were downloaded within seconds...
Is there a way to save the MIDI configuration?
That's up to each app to implement on their own! If it has no icon to switch back to AUM, just double-tap the physical home button on your device and you can switch between apps there. Not as fast, but not too bad either
(And email the developer of the apps and ask them kindly to add an IAA host transport panel in their user interface)
It was answered recently in another question, but check the effect list -> Stereo Processing -> Stereo to Mono, to pick only left or right input!
If you can get the other app to send to its virtual midi port, then connect that port to iSEM in the MIDI Matrix in AUM (menu button -> MIDI ROUTE).
Yes, the limiter is lookahead so it introduces the same amount of latency as the attack parameter is set to.
I have some vague ideas about it, yes But can't guarantee it will be soon!
Just a quick note here: I've seen several IAA apps that don't correctly start their audio engine when launched in the background via a host app like AUM. In those cases, it often helps to make sure "background audio" is on in the other app, and to launch it manually and let it keep running while you load it into AUM.
