Isn't blocs the brand name and Wave the app name ?

Seriously? I've never heard of this Blocs, only Bloc i know is Soviet.

Surely, it is derived from chopping block, but instead of meat it's sound that is butchered

This is a visual metaphor that works powerfully for me. Especially in terms of trying to judge clearly and critically where I'm going or what I've ended up with....

I'm loving this app and can't believe the stuff I am coming up with. I lost most of the last weekend to this app. One thing I am noticing is that the sound quality is inferior to my Launchpad samples. I recorded some GeoShred over the top of one my grooves and it sounds so much better than the Blocs samples it's obnoxious.

I am curious as to what other peoples tracks are sounding like.

One workaround I've been doing--tedious as it is---is finding the tracks I am going to use--and then essentially overdub them by using them on 3 or 4 of the pads. And then exporting and reimporting. I'll upload some of my stuff to soundcloud.

I'm finding it really easy to get really funky with these tracks. I've gone and actually bought some .wav loops just to add to this. Can't get enough bass lines or wah-'d out guitar.

Yes recording funky bass lines within Blocs and random slice them is bloody insane. It takes you to grooves you would never have imagined with your guitar and that are helluva tight also. Highly creative process!.
Blocs also helps a lot for mixing and coordinate soundtracks recorded from pocket operators, volcas and all IOS app.
It brings to life and mixes together all my archives stocked in Audioshare.
It really allows you to give sense to what was only but isolated sketches before.

They got good work to complete. Can't always be on here listening to our rants and raves.

So do I - but I don't prance about whispering in people's ears about it- do you?

    Huh?

I just mean I don't like being teased with little snippets about what (big) is coming next as previously mentioned- what's the secret about? Don't say what you are going to do- say what you have just done- is my motto....... for today. :)

Everyone is pretty secretive about what they are developing, they don't want to promise stuff in case they cannot do it for whatever reason, @launchpadforios are no different in that respect. Where they are different is that they pop in and let us know that they ARE working on stuff and that we CAN expect updates and releases rather than just staying silent and making us all wonder if the app will stay as it is, as happens when peeps do not pop up and say hello.

"We got something big coming." is better than "What's the weather like where you are ?"

    Isn't it ?

    :)

    Indeed :)

  • I don't have Blocs yet and on another thread someone (@carol) uses it with Model 15...

Is It possible to have let's say a drum machine and a synth or two in the background, where you make sounds, loops and record directly into Blocs?
Is that the idea behind Blocs? Is Blocs good for instant type of jamming, creating?

Is there a platform involved like AB or AUM?

    Thanks for any help

You need audiobus to record in blocs wave, same than loopy or samplr

Yeah I used aum and AB to route the Moog into Blocs, jamming along with other Blocs tracks and hitting to record the new block wave when I was ready . Bit hit and miss getting it to record right at the beginning , particularly if you're recording the first track ,as there's no metronome though , but maybe there's an easier way . I ended up with a gap at the beginning , but to be fair I've only had a couple of attempts and need to RTFM

  • This was way back at the beginning of the thread, but worth watching again.

I had something big coming this morning- just after finishing my cornflakes, tea & toast- I couldn't keep it a secret for long though- as any passer by would testify to. :#

Seriously- it is just me & I know it. I'm still bitterly smarting from the long build up, hype and promises around the new Korg electribe- and others...... only to be let down- badly. The Novation apps are truly superb (Launchpad & blocs wave) & I'm confident the new ones will be equally as good. I do appreciate that developers are in touch- albeit to serve their own agenda for the most part.

Btw- The temperature here is average for the time of year, and it's cloudy with a chance of sinkholes :)

  • i am having a total gas running blocs through the model 15... the fixed filter bank, gain stacking, tempo locked lfo and delay yield non stop grins

LMAOOOO - Wet and Windy here - Yeah I get the disappointment you get when promises do not come to fruition. I do think the Novation guys will deliver, and beyond what we are expecting.

    :)

  • Thank you all for your replies and link to video etc....

Sounds like agreat app, just what I was hoping to hear... :)

Bit out of subject about Novation....
I also appreciate the Novation/Focusrite team... I bought recently a second hand SLMKII and controls were jumping in display and a call to them and they helped me to fix it, (recalibration) very helpful and knowledgeable people...to me that means a lot...

Agree, customer service is best in the business.

  • Just bought this and having a blast. Gonna give them a review now. Thanks y'all for giving me a push back into buying apps, Id almost forgot where the app store button was :)

On no, have you fallen off the wagon ? If you're gonna fall off, it may as well be for something as awesome as blocs wave :)

  • Speaking of....just wondering what everyone's favorite packs are. I only have one - Motown, so I was curious what others think of the other packs.

To be honest I mostly use my own sample libraries and recordings from my volca keys, bass, sample or iOS synths.

+1 I'm not interested in any of the packs now, nor will I be in the future.

I'm in the use my own sample camp too. I know it's been requested many times before, but let me take this opportunity to request again that users be allowed to delete factory content or some alternative solution that would allow users to have control over which content gets cycled through in BW's lovely browser. It's very jarring to have metal power chords pop up in the middle of a chill out tune.

  • I can see where user packs would be preferred. I'm slowly building up my library as well.

Surprisingly, they all have something usable in them. I typically fill three or four of the slots with my own samples (making sure I tag them correctly with the right key info) then fill the rest with sample packs. I've turned four on the floor beats into slow lazy electro chill sessions just by mixing BW samples with my own.

  • I hear ya @robertreynolds . I haven't got through everything in the Motown pack yet, but I've found several that I like and others that are a bit meh.

  • I second the letting us delete factory banks. Or atleast letting us make it user samples only for discovery. Since there's no major key support currently I'm using relative minors which doesn't exactly work well with the factory content.

Yes for now, I wish Devs could implement:

-Direct Transfer of 8 tracks to Launchpad
    -Delete factory banks
-Audiobus remote controls allowing you to turn on/off each of the 8 tracks from another Idevice
-Midi learn for tracks and volume levels

Congrats again too devs for such a brilliant work ! Keep on keepin'!

That pretty much sums up my wish list for the short term anyway! :D

  • I love this app. It's scarily easy to make great sounds. This is the first time I've used guitar clips and it's amazing. Such a beautiful instrument the guitar esp. with a couple of effects. You all know this of course!
I agree, midi learn is pretty important to triggering clips but
I personally think that the most important feature would be to have multi out in AB or IAA then we can set levels, pan and add effects with AUM and control it all with midi. I'm sure someone already mentioned it.
