The trouble with this is that I'm rubbish and so anything I post will tarnish what Egoist can really do; I would be the guy who cost the poor developers a thousand sales
Another Egoist adopter here, brought out of the bushes from the sale. It is really an amazing tool. Great ideas @AudioGus . Field recording type things are great fodder. I've been having great fun mangling loops from Yellofier and Earhoof. One of the things I love about Egoist is that it's good with melodic material too.
Yes. Much as I like a funked up bass line as next as the next manly man, I have a fancy for maudlin pretty slowness and you can certainly get that here...
Here are a couple quick videos. Not performances or anything, just showing some ways i like to use Egoist and also Effectrix...
Sorry for the low voice on the one vid...
They both slice but I reckon the comparison ends there. This is underselling both apps but I see Samplr as something for playing slices and Egoist as something for generating rhythms with slices.
Absolutely feel you on this. Sometimes I feel like the options are just noise (on iOS generally or within a sky's the limit app like Egoist), "The Oppresion of Choice", as a real thing. I occasionally find myself wishing I had only a piano and a microphone.
This is probably related to the 'are we asking too much of our iOS devices?'. Definitely a recurring theme for me personally with regard to choice, inspiration and productivity (hence the recurring return to NS).
Consumer addiction. I keep 'wanting' more apps (dopamine hit = inspiration) but I rarely buy anymore because after so many there is nothing I can't do with what I've got.
Thanks @AudioGus for the videos and @syrupcore for input. Egoist looks amazing. So amazing in fact that I'm scared that it'll slow me down and send me down a rabbit hole when I just need simple solutions... I'm still trying to get to the bottom of the holes I already have!
I'm looking into picking up WOW Filterbox on sale, and was wondering what the general consensus around here was. I am an Auria Pro user, so the integration there is a plus. Basically, I'd be interested in knowing if those of you who do own WOW actually use it, or is it rather one of those "it can do interesting things but ends up collecting virtual dust" apps?
I like it, but I always end up in Turnado instead, despite their differences. YMMV.
I'd pick Wow if I'd really need to work out/create filtering effects on my loops.
It really is a brilliant tool and the results are outstanding IMHO and very very
fuckin pleasant to the ears. It is tight as a mosquitoe's ass, in fact.
The question now is:
how much do you need these in your creative process ?
if not
what is the rate for a pint in your country?
might also help you out and
If you only drink coffee, the choice will be even harder, I guess...
Done. It's been added to the toolbox. Thanks for the input, gents. For the price of a drinkable bottle of Beaujolais, if I use it time to time to spice the odd drum part, it will have been worth it.
Nice approach (to life ).
I was disappointed with it to be honest . The effects are a bit harsh to my ears and I struggle to get subtlety from it . I bought it on sale too so it was cheap , but I dont use it . Turnado has it covered IMHO )
Thanx for the videos @AudioGus ,
I'm (still) a noob in iOS, and what really surprised me is how you got the apps all showing in a line and switch from one to the other !?
I Can't do that at all ?
Talking about the 1st video....And all "connected" sound wise...and you're not using AUM or AB....or another platform are you?
Is it Modstep that enables you to do that? (The only app I don't have yet)...
Thanks
Actually anyone that knows can tell me
To show all the apps you have running double tap on the home button
The apps are synced via Link and/or midi clock. You don't need AUMor AB to have audio out from multiple apps but just 'run in background' mode on
Wouldn't you know it. After talking myself out of buying Egoist, I talked myself back into it. Y'all are enablers!
Here to help
I was the only strong one. Holding out for either Modstep or ??
its a lot of fun , youll have a good few hours of enjoyment playing with it even if it doesnt find its way into your tracks
when I double tap the home button all the apps I have running overlap each other i.e. I can see about a quarter inch of the left hand side of each app.
@AudioGus has gaps between the different apps, anyone know how I can get mine like this?
Air 2

Spent 30 minutes with it and I can already tell that the fun quotient is super high and I'll very likely use it in my tracks. Still a bit overwhelmed by the possibilities...
Get ios7
Ah, it's one of Apples little improvements is it?
Looks a lot neater and more useful the old way.
That's what I was talking about...(looks better organised and easy to manipulate)
Yah that was a combination of Modstep and Link but these days I just use Modstep without Link to house everything.
