  • Totally get wanting to make the auto-arp a separate app and count me in as a day-one-buyer. That said, my personal preference would be to have the functionality available directly in JM for a few reasons. First is obviously convenience—one stop shopping. Second is sample space—if they’re going to be the same samples, I’d rather not store them twice (though maybe you can do something like AUM/Audioshare and if a user has one or the other installed already, they can share samples?). Third is timeline integration though it sounds like ‘open in’ would stick it directly onto the currently song’s active track's timeline. Guess we could move it around after the fact with copy and paste?

  • On song sections… I like the linear nature of JM but there are some additional (possible) benefits of song sections that wouldn't really mess with the linear way of life—just make it easier. They could be an easy way to a) set the loop boundaries, b) set the tab area zoom/scroll to and C) copy entire section. All three are doable right now within the app but they all get a little hard to manage (for me) once the tune is longer than 20 bars or so. Stretch bonus: D) I'd wager there are a lot of guitarists/JM users out there that would be real happy to pay for a pack of importable drum sequences. More so if they came as 'intro', 'verse', 'chorus', 'bridge' and JM offered to lay them out thusly...

  • ^All good points @syrupcore

No need to worry about mashing the arp and strum ideas, exploring these ideas is pretty useful i think.

Speaking of tab space and the sidebar… what do you and your admirers think of putting the AB panel on the left? :)

Scratch that. I've been so stuck in tab editing mode with the sidebar on the right that I forgot about the play modes where having access to Fret 0 is important.

  • @syrupcore I could try switching the AB panel to the left when enter the tab screen, but it would pop it out every time to let you know its changed, so it might get annoying fast. As you mentioned the reason why its on the right right now is because of the play screen and fret 0.

As for separate app idea ... i know what you mean, would be a tighter integration if it was in JM itself. However every single update I have done to JM in the past two years has made zero difference to the bottom line. So it would be a lot of work for not much reward, and I can't live off JM forever. Acoustic samples are only about 30mb and 'Open in' would open the tab into a separate 'Import track' where you could just copy and paste stuff wherever you want. Just an idea at the moment anyway.

As for your suggestions, do you mean basically setting a start point and and end point to select stuff, like holding down shift on computers yeah? Can't exactly picture the interface for the importable drum sequences idea where JM could just 'lay them out thusly' though :) that sounds like a lot of work/things to think about!!

  • Think the AB panel is in the best spot it can be. I just lost the forest for a minute.

Yep, working for free is poop. Please do whatever you need to do to stay in this game (including ignoring me!). I was suggesting IAP originally but I'm on board with whatever works for you and JM. What you described sounds great.

Do you mean the song sections? I was thinking it'd be more like markers along the top (ala Logic et al). [Insert Marker] to add one up top. Drag it to wherever. Tap a marker to set the 'play from' playhead position. Double tap a marker to set the zoom to that region. Double tap the area between markers to select all notes in that section. In the Loop screen, have the option to set the loop to the selection. Or something along those lines.

I was definitely sprinkling magic dust there. I did write stretch bonus. :)
