Is there a manual for impc pro?
I want to make the sequences longer than 2 bars how do I do that?
Edit: Never mind I found it!
Still would like a manual of sorts, it's different enough from my 1000 that some things are stumping me.

  • not sure about a manual, but under the song tab hit the button on the right labeled 'duplicate'.

  • In the song tab, make sure you're in sequences and hit the plus or minus sign to the left of the amount of bars or the duplicate to the right to duplicate.

@DanWalton I was excited about being able to map the controls to other midi controllers but there are a lot of issues here:

-can only map the 16 pads and the variation slider. What about all the other controls?

-the mapped pads don't respond to aftertouch, the way they responded to my MPC Element's aftertouch. For example turn on note repeats, hold down a pad and put various amounts of pressure on it. With the Element the rolls get louder and softer, but not with my Akai MPD226.

-the notes that my Akai MPD226 are sending out, which I have mapped to the 16 pads, mysteriously also trigger other functions. Like, I believe it's note E3, when hit turns on 16 Levels!

-the button on the settings page that lets you map midi sometimes suddenly is missing.

I encountered the same problem with the Quneo controller. I was using a preset mapped to the same settings as the MPC Element which worked fine before the update that included MIDI Learn, but now it does not work. The only controller that currently works effectively is the MPC Element.

Does the new 1.5.5 update address any of these problems?

  • Left a great review on the app store. Don't know how long it takes to post, but from an Electric guitar player's point of view. I appreciate all your hard work and dedication. Truly hope you guys continue to succeed and be blessed. I know you can't possibly satisfy every single request, but you guys have been faithfully trying hard. That I really appreciate.

Would love to write a positive review but this desperately needs midi support to use with external gear! At least midi sync! Please, this isn't 1982, midi should be everywhere.
And I would love to see more IIA effect slots, how about room for one insert effect per track!

  • I haven't had a chance to try my midi controller as I've been using only the iPad and Navichord.

  • My midi controller Axiom Mini 32 Air worked. I was able to program the 8 built in pads to 8 on iMPC pro and another bank of 8 to the other 8. What was cool was that it did recognize velocity of I hit the pads softly the sound was soft and increased on when hit harder. I did get crashes though when using inter app. But with Cakewalk Z3TA got no crashes at all and recorded perfectly. I was able to monitor my playing thru headphones as I recorded the inter app audio from Zeta.

    Still so much to learn.

  • I just had an update and it seems crashes whatever I do. Yes is great piece of gear (when it works!!!)

  • Still no input-monitoring when sampling, maybe in a year or two...

Thanks, I mean midi sync so I don't have to use link to midi to have impc pro play along my other gear. Although this is good info as well.

  • Hats off to Retronyms for re-supporting IOS 7.0.

  • yeah that was a nice surprise even though I'm well past it.

  • I held off this app for the longest time cuz of the sentiments here, but had $12 to blow tonight and after a half hour of messing around, I think I kinda like it. The IAA sampling to pads is quick and easy. But maybe I'll encounter many gremlins and such if I keep at it...

A new beta was released today that addresses these problems. There is toggle switch to turn MPC Element MIDI mode On or Off.

Thanks for listening and responding to our feedback Retronyms!

Sounds encouraging. If MPC Element mode is off, can your midi controller be mapped to all the other buttons now? Previously you could only map the pads and variation slider.

You can also map the track effects buttons in the mixer section, but in the Main section you can only map the pads and variation slider.

Hopefully though the new MPC Element toggle will once again allow us to map controls using the note on/off messages listed here: http://blog.retronyms.com/2014/07/impc-pro-midi-input-details.html

  • I went to see if my review was up, I guess Apple blocked it maybe I mentioned God too many times. o:)

  • I would like to see the ability to name tracks , group tracks and move around track position in Mixer.

I must say iMPC Pro has come a long way, good to see the developers finally listening, hope this trend would follow in their other apps.

  • Guys I just realized that iMPC PRO does midi out. I had Cubasis open and the Alive Kit in a midi tack and was wondering why I heard double notes. Loaded up an empty set in impc pro and the drums from Cubasis were being triggered..

  • LOL if iMpc pro blew your mind you need a real beat machine app Beatmaker 2 trust me

  • Will check it out :D

how do you change tempo within a song?

  • Down on the song tab, bottom of screen, tap it and you can make song tempo or track tempo change, even change # of bars for sequence. I think this app is deep but it takes a bit to figure out where everything is. Like loading different sounds to the pads, I could not figure it out although it was there right in front of me.

    Hi,

I like IMPC pro but still finding some problems in Midi learn function.I sent a tweet to Retronyms few weeks ago and they should be working on this topic.

They both have good and bad characteristics, mostly good. To say one is a "real beat machine app" implies that the other isn't. Maybe you could provide some additional details and analysis as to why other than "trust me".
I have used both since their initial releases but now use iMPC Pro. IMHO it has evolved further than Beatmaker primarily in terms of workflow. It is so intuitive to the point that it feels more like an instrument. Beatmaker more like an interface to an instrument. Maybe Beatmaker 3 will swing the pendulum back in Intua's favor, who knows. But we will have to wait, and wait, and wait and see:)
