The way I see it, he found his workflow, and it works for him. Which is really awesome to see, even if you have to do extra steps, he found that it just works.
For me, that is just too many steps. I barely have enough time to setup the apps etc..
So with iMPC PRO, I just load up my favorite synths, sample them, save the sample for whatever pad or future use, then continue recording. This gets the beat off my mind and into the machine. And true, I also feel as this app is more like an instrument.
Yeah, I just read the other threads detailing his workflow. I get it. In fact, I was using BM2 in a similar manner and still have a lot of samples stored in my Dropbox folders. However, that was before the Great IOS Synth. Explosion:)
We are blessed......
The Quick load
Well here you go I talked about it in a video I did on youtube check the 4 min mark
No other IOS app allows you to do this
I will say this its all a matter of personal opinion and mines is just that. If your workflow is cool in FL Studios no need to go to Logic Pro. I mean people made great songs on a 4track. There are alot of features beatmaker 2 offers that most people dont know about.
Once you get past the 'quirks' of BM2 file management (like impossible to move files without 're-save' or copy to dropbox, delete and copy back to different location) It's quite easy to handle.
The lack of dedicated selection handles in the sample editor still drives me nuts from time to time as it makes it easy to loose the selection when scrolling around the wave-form... (The selection handles that are present when choosing 'playback area' for the pads would be nice to have in the sample editor too).
Also the onscreen keyboard and pads could have 'velocity sensitivity'
(edge->center on pads, y-axis on the keyboard).
The IAA support in BM2 is quite 'dated' compared to Cubasis and I guess we'll have to wait to BeatMaker 3 to get AU support.
Now that's what I'm talking about! Great video! I love how you brought it all together in Auria AKA "ProTools":) Which reminds me, I have to checkout that FabFilter sale before it expires!
It also reminds me to checkout the Korg NanoKontrol Studio which works great with Aurio Pro as well as gadget: https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/14365/nanokontrol-studio-control-auria-pro-wirelessly-remap-8-knobs-8-sliders-wheel-44-buttons#latest
how do you change tempo within a song?
The mixing in iMPC PRO still has me a bit baffled. Especially the master track which I dont think it's a true master track but has the built in compressor, which does sound good but, I'm getting really super hot signals yet I hardly see the track meters move up. Anyone have any idea? I did have to go to each pad and lower the levels individually. But, I'm still learning.
Click the home key were you can add new instruments its in the bottom left corner I believe
I so agree. What I think they are doing is working in BM3 and something is holding it up they might be doing to much because its been years lol
Reduce the gain of the master compressor and then the fader will be managable. I found the same problem and just reducing the gain made the thing.
I mean automate the tempo change in a song?
I think it may not be possible but id hate to redownload such a huge file as my tablet is almost full.
Anyways, thanks AlexB, lowering the gain did the trick.
I'm right now trying to figure out what will work best for me. Do you guys record the instruments in separate tracks for better mixing or off of one whole set of pads...dont know if it makes sense, but everytime I load a synth pas sample to a pad I have to resave my whole program...i mean dont have to but it feels like I should. So right now I have 4 separate tracks for a single sequence but id like to know what's your workflow like.
diff track per instrument
Yup. I'll just keep making music w/BMII until BMIII comes out, instead of learning another app.
Thats cool, i actually like both apps a lot but right now impc pro is working out great with IAA recording synths and stuff.
Progress continues. A new iMPC Pro Beta just came out. AudioCopy and other fixes:
iMPC Pro 1.6.2 (20939) for iOS is ready to test
What To Test:
AudioCopy and other improvements
Nice!
Let us know when Input-Monitoring is in place in the Mic/Line Sampling Tab...
...if it ever gets implemented
As far as I know you can't automate tempo change in BM2 (without exporting to Auria) but you can in impc pro by assigning each pattern it's own tempo. Then when you arrange and play back in song mode it will follow the tempo
of each pattern.
Even with 'tempo per pattern' It's pretty much useless because 'choppy tempo changes' are pretty lame.
What's needed is a 'tempo-track' that allows to automate tempo changes over time...
if it is now awesome, it means i should give a new try to impcpro, when i tried to use it during the first 6 months after release it was too closed (no AB, no audioshare... only the shitty audiocopy plugin... crazy for a sampling app) and too buggy/unstable for me to use it as part of my workflow (which was disapointing as i made music on impc1000 for over 15 years)... i guess they probably fully reimplemeted it with the support of coders external to retronyms, will redownload then !
actually Samu, you can change tempo's gradually, you can go from 120bmp- 121 bpm if you want.... there is no choppy-ness-involved..... unless that's just how you want to program it.
can't wait for BM2 to get this feature, maybe in BM3 if we're lucky, in the meantime here's an example of how the mpc doesn't sound choppy
can you change multiple time signatures in a song in bm2?
I dont think so Im going to try and figure it out tonight let ya know
So much potential in iMPC Pro. The current beta seems much more stable, thankfully, but Retronyms still haven't sorted out the huge problem with the way Link works in it........the app will start its bar at the nearest measure in other Link apps, rather than waiting for the full bar to cycle or - as Triq Traq does - coming on on the measure relevant to other apps. Also, when starting it from AUM's transport, iMPC Pro delays its start until the 2nd beat. I'm really hoping they sort this out as it's currently making me avoid using it.
have you spoke to the Waltons about this?
what happens when you start the impc first and then start another app, link doesn't work in that way ?
