  • I know this might be a stupid question, but up until the release of blocs I had no idea what novation was. Can I use my KaosPro with this?! I'm pretty sure that is a no, but what about a midi rig with an old drum machine? I looked for these questions and all I saw was how to use it with novation gear. @Launchpadforios

  • I also get a sad face when trying to import anything onto the iPhone version :( any reason why we cannot import on the iPhone version?

  • I did a little demo of the new features.

if you buy the midi clock sync IAP you can use it as master for other midi gear. I use it as master for circuit running alongside.

Edit: Alternatively if you use midi link sync app, you can then slave launchpad to another midi clock, without needing the midi sync iap

Very helpful TUTORIAL, sir! Thank you!
And now that I know the audio import costs money, I actually feel a whole lot better about this! (You know the whole, If the product is free, the product is you paradigm....)

  • @AndyPlankton Yeah I figured since it said midi sync was an option as well that it could work. It works very well, another great app from the novation team. Now i can load all of my sessions with takes we never used and change them up. I'll be shutting the F up about panning now! Just as long as it is ON THE BOARD BABY THATS A W.

There are DJ style effects in the video that I can't find on the App.

    Anyone?

The first filter type effect is on the iPhone (the one in the screenshot), not the iPad, I don't have iPhone so I cannot say if it has an equivalent on the iPad but just looks different because of the screen size, the iPhone version isn't just the same app in a smaller window, it is optimised for the smaller screen, there are also additional effects that are iap, flanger for example.

Glad to have you fully onboard with launchpad, I have been banging on about how good this is for ages, it gets even better if you use a launchpad for loops and effects and launch control XL for volume and filter, you can then run the app in the background, and have blocs wave on screen instead, and then also use your external gear. No app switching required until you want to change song :)

So I understand what it means.

Check the launchpad for iOS YouTube channel, look for hardware videos

    you can use both together

  • @AndyPlankton If i could sell some of my old gear I would probably get a mini one to see if it's anything I would need. I have been with the NI and Korg squad for almost seven years, so it would have to be pretty amazing for someone like me to suddenly switch to a launchpad. I am not a DJ, but I do have the skills to DJ my own clients mixes if needed. Have had the orange first edition 2010, and it works with everything on my mac. It has no iOS support is kind of shitty, but honestly doesn't get me away from Maschine as an AU. Can you use this app as a "control surface" for the abelton 9 intro and above? That is something NI should have done a long time ago with the 64 bit chips we now have.

I'm going to bundle together some of my hand me downs I was given by my brothers friend with an old flatscreen LG I don't use since I don't watch TV. Maybe get rid of the Scarlett 2i2 since it can't be used on iOS for some odd reason. Throw in a perfect condition Dr rhythm Dr 670 and see what kind of moves I can make. Personally I am kind of pissed off I had to pay to be able to import sounds, but I'll leave that subject alone :).

  • I have a launch key 25 and it will not control launchpad if it's in the background. Works great if the app is in the foreground but as soon as you switch to another app the pad lights go out. Cannot confirm that would happen with a launchpad mini, pro, or S.

  • An idea I tried that works for Blocs and Launchpad.

Bring up a complex drum loop in Blocs 6 times.

Take the loop and use the Slicer to make different arrangements of the beats.

    Export separate loops.

Import into launchpad and use in a row. Switch between to taste.

    I know, right?

  • @Flightmanual I have been doing that only in Maschine for Pc :D. I run abelton into 9 hit link and fire up the Maschine 2 AU. Drag something I liked from blocs and go from there, or vice versa i'll record into blocs using an adapter, or dock.

Not being very serious. Just looking for potential applications. It certainly looks fun, but it's mostly a performance too, no? I'm completely uninterested in using premade loops, but if I could get my shit together and edit down some of the tracks I've got set aside....

looks like Andy answered the question already

Maybe just an obvious thing that I just found out. If there's no Wifi to connect your Iphone and your Ipad you can still share the internet connection from one device to the other one and the link it also works!

Extremely great tip! While obvious now, it hadn't occurred to me prior that this would likely work. I'll cite you when I eventually get around to updating the iOS audio tech thread :)

  • Let's say I have some leftover takes from when I had a guitar session come in and track out whatever he wanted. I save all those takes and put them on external drives and use those on apps like blocs wave, or novation and you have a whole new workflow. It's like a performance, but to yourself i suppose. If you are a good song writer you might be surprised by it. Being able to load up and manipulate my guitar guy when he's in fucking africa or some shit unavailable I can simply "perform" a magic trick and take the old recorded stuff and make it new again. Re-Amp it, run it through audio suite on my mac, then zip it up and export it into one of the apps. It adds another dimension to your workflow, and makes life easier. That goes for both of the applications. I just enjoy being away from the computer and wires.

  • The DJ effect you are seeing is from iphone version I think

That sounds great. I'm trying to think of the best routine to trim loops and define their bpm...probably AudioShare? Or Twisted Wave? If I haven't specified the BPM — or if I'm using a non 4/4 loop or some ambient bird calls, for example, what does Launchpad decide? I guess this has real happy accident potential....

  • I always upload my samples to Maschine, or the DJAY app. You can upload any sound to it and it'll run it through an algorithm and tell you the key and tempo. With abstract concepts I always upload them to Djay because it tends to be more precise when it comes to measuring the approximate tempo. In fact I left a portable condenser outside the other night to listen to owls. Ran it through the Djay program and it gave me the tempo and key they were hooting.

    HOO does something like this?

    Seriously, that's very cool...

Launchpad mk2 work perfectly for me with app not in foreground, as does launch control xl :) using iPad mini2 and usb powered hub and cck

This looks fantastic. But am I being weird that I have resisted this app because it's free? I keep thinking that it requires some desktop software or midi hardware...or the endless purchase of loops. But am I wrong?

it's not free, i paid something like $15 bucks on it already

does this mean you can mix and match loops of different tempos and pitches together, if so can you change the time and pitch of the individual clips in realtime or is it only a global kind of thing?

You can change the tempo of the whole project globally in real time, it is there to allow proper Link sync to be implemented.

ok so basically the feature of 2.0 is Link.... very cool

  • Thx, thats really nice

  • Props guys! Great job with this and Blocs. You guys have raised the bar for all other apps and devs

Great update, just one thing: support for the iPad Pro 12.9, I'm not even asking for something really complex (it would be great but I understand that it wouldn't be worth it) just the resolution and the keyboard for typing will do.
