Coming BeatMachine Big Update

  • The graphics remind me of linux applications. That’s not a criticism, more of a style ethos.

  • No new kits and no changes to the sequencer - but that will change too. I had originally intended Beat Machine to be a blank slate type of drum machine where you could make whatever drum kits you wanted. Thats what beat makers used to do anyway because drum machines always came with dumb sounds. The samples it comes with now came from my MPC - which was full of samples that I scavenged from disks that came from other MPC's. I'll add new kits when I finish overhauling the file manager.

I have a 32 step sequencer ready to drop in but it won't be compatible with patterns made in the old sequencer. I guess I could either tell users to deal with it or build in a converter that would do it whenever an old pattern was loaded (but this would take a while for me to finish).

@dreamless to be honest I would much prefer a timeline like iMPC pro where you could put in your drum hit and also adjust the grid values.

Hey all what's your take on this.

    See attached

I would appreciate the grid handling like the Fairlight CMI did
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/peter-vogel-cmi-pro/id427747876
    check the Page R screenshot:
the grid adjusts on the fly to a selected note duration, but leaves all items already entered in place
as it supports triplet values, you can get some funky stuff going and not just 4th to 16th
dunno why that's so uncommon - really simple to use and doesn't interfere with the classic approach
(I'm just talking 'bout the grid, not the screendesign...)

    cheers, Tom

    Or Beat Machine 2?

    But beat-machine 2 could be $20. ;)

  • Works only on midi channel 1. Would be nice to have it on default ch10, possible?
    Thanks

  • There is an option in settings to change midi in channel @soundklinik

I know, I tried with several sequencers but only midi channel 1 works.
Did you get it work on ch.10, (or any other besides ch.1?)

  • I would check and report back @soundklinik

  • Currently there is a bug and BeatMachine listens to channel 1 only. But I think the dev will fix this.
In beta version, Link works great and BeatMachine not only syncs perfectly inside a host like AUM (with Link enabled) but it listens to AUM's start and stop messages...cool!

  • I'm liking this drum machine all over again...

  • As a Free-Thinker I've made the purchase!

  • @puppychumful Lordy, your username gave me pause so much I had to comment in this post.

  • What apps are you guys using to trigger midi in Beat Machine? I'm trying to fix the midi issue and I need to know which apps to get so I can test what you guys are doing. Is the only problem that it isn't responding on any channel except for channel 1? I don't want to mess with any midi code that I don't have to. Also, the code for IAA midi and virtual midi are separate, so I'll need to know which one you're using when you encounter problems.

So what apps am I gonna buy tonight?

  • BEATMAKER 2
This is what Im use to in a Beat Machine app. Coming from Maschine and MPC's this is the closest app to the real
    thing.

  • no i'm asking the beta testers what apps they are using with my app

Beat Maker 2 is absolutely miserable compared to a real MPC. I don't think you're going to convert many people at this point in time.

LOL first of all sir I was not talking directly to you. Your being very one sided as to you are the Dev of this app so I get it. Kinda distasteful if you ask me shitting on another Dev's app. I have both apps and Beakmaker 2 may not be like an MPC in your eyes but your app cant even compare to Beatmaker 2 in mine. In my humble non Dev opinion. I have been producing music for over 20 years sir, I can like one app over the other. Its about workflow and what works for people. Im just trying to shed some lite I meant no disrespect to you, Im just giving my opinion on what a beat machine is and should have. Thats what a forum is about. So like I said I wasn't targeting your comments hadn't even read them. Had I known you were in here I wouldn't have posted my comment.

  • stop shitting up all these threads with giant pictures of a 10 year old app that nobody uses

and maybe read threads before you take a shit in them

Wow your funny dude your app looks like the first ios app ever made but okay
Why are you such an ass tho lol

  • edited July 2016

I seen the Post with the picture of your new update and it looks like the old app so wanted him to see what other beat machine apps look like. So what I did was valid sir stop being over protective I have your app too. That means i paid for it. Respect that atleast

  • edited July 2016

@dreamless , I am on beta testing, was using BSP hardware sequencer and also midiSteps and Thesis and patterning...
Some didn't seem to work at all, I believe it was midiSteps but I was not sure if I had everything setup correctly....
Hope you get it figured out, great drum machine with half the CPU compared to before

  • ...forgot to say, When I was able to sequence, it was on channel 1 only. The others don't work
If you hardwire it to ch. 10 it would be nice (that is if it causes problems)

  • edited July 2016

Setting it to receive on channel 10 would be the same as hardwiring it to channel 10 (it wouldn't work with the current build cause something is broken). I'm going over IAA midi right now and I'll test virtual midi after that.

I'm also having a complete failure with IAA in garageband. IAA works as expected in multitrack DAW, but garageband is sending garbage data for timeline position. To the user, it will appear to just not play when you press play in garageband, but in my debugging I can see that gb is sending random numbers for timeline data causing beat machine to not play. The worst part is it used to work fine in gb (it would get the same timeline data that it would get from MTDAW).

EDIT: IAA midi responds on all channels for me; gonna check core midi next

    Hello UNIVERSAL!

Where is FunkBox in all this...........................? GEEZ

    Syncs like Justin Timberlake.

Haha this is the coolest compliment I've heard for an app. I once took my took my two younger female cousins to see him and Christina Aguilerra over 15 years ago as they were crazy about him. After the show I tried to follow their tour bus to get an autograph for them but no luck.

  • I fixed the midi channel issue. Now it responds on whatever channel you want whether using IAA midi or virtual midi. I'll put up a new beta and submit it to the app store tonight.
