  • Bought this on the strength of the demo video, and the hope to see Electro Harmonix dedicate more resources to iOS.

I don't recall ever seeing a demo video for a synth app feature a guitar?

Sounds amazing, but can't see any mention of IAA, AudioBus or AU-X :(

    Mentioned here:

Thanks, so for an appoholic like me it's 'christmas' time this and the 'tape-echo' mentioned in another thread.
    I'm a sucker for retro-stuff :D

    Couldn't agree more.
And running this synth THROUGH that tape echo is where it's at!

Pretty sweet sound and fun hooking sliders up to MIDI LFO's.

Can you explain a bit how you're setting this up? What app do you use for the LFO's? Thanks!

  • I like it , i like it and the design is perfection :)

Pulled the trigger on the iPhone version. Only a handful of presets, but they are surprisingly varied. Definitely has a warm analog feel to it. Reverb was quite nice as well. MIDI out may not be ready yet, but MIDI In (such as plugging in a keyboard) worked just fine. Keep in mind that EHX is basically completely new to apps and this is a new app.

It's not going to go head to head with some of the great iOS synths we already have, but it's reasonably priced and offers a neat recreation of a vintage piece of hardware.

    Thanks much.

Liking what I see so far. Will keep an eye on this one, as I don't really need another synth app, but appreciate where the developers are going. Hopefully, Doug at TSTR will pick up on this and give it a work out.

EDIT - I see Pants of Death has already beaten him to it!

  • Props to E-H for having a solid well-made video upon release. Impressive.

  • It's a pretty simple synth but very, very fun to play with!
And yepp. The promo video really sets a benchmark on how to do synth-app demos, it's fun and entertaining.

I already dream of an UA-X update :D

  • I've got a bag full of EHX pedals!
The only (non compression) hardware FX still existing in my rig are EHX.
Great to see them stepping into the iOS realm and also hopeful for an effects suite.

  • The POD did get there first, damn those Y-Front, but I just had to get it and do a vid, this is worth it for the Reverse Reverb alone

  • Interesting app - I even vaguely remember seeing an original! I also did a MIDI Guitar and Animoog demo almost a year ago, but I removed the video after I received complaints about a hat being in frame with the word "Douche" on it. ;)

Nice video coming soon for the iPad version of moodscaper

  • Doesn't show AUM as a MIDI input so doesn't respond to AUM keyboard but does show AUM as an output. :#

  • Anybody know the difference(s) (except the price) between the iPad and iPhone version?

Will look forward to that. Moodscaper is great, and will be greater with AudioBus support. As for this Mini-Synth, the reverse reverb and ribbon bar control you demoed sold it to me.

The app also shows that if a developer has the wit and will, it is very possible to launch it with proper connectivity.

  • @thesoundtestroom Nice work Doug. I am getting some great sounds out of this app.

I don't have the iPad version - the iPhone version looks to be "as advertised" in the description. I'm not seeing a functional difference.

I think some companies that are new to iOS development do the split pricing for separate iPhone/iPad versions because they just thing that's "how it's done" and what the consumers want. There's an argument that if you're an iPhone-only user, this benefits you because 2.99 is a cheap price even for a limited synth, and you don't have to pay a higher price for higher-res display, etc.

People on this forum complain about apps that aren't universal, but the way I look at it, the iPhone version is "universal" (can be used on both), whereas the iPad version is not. It's just better optimized for an iPhone than an iPad.

Insta crash when you touch the keyboard!! iPad Air, 8.4.1

EHX support tell me this is a known bug in iOS 8 only, (and suggest update to iOS 9), they hope to correct in future update, and are keen for ideas and suggestions for this and other app ideas! Email. Minisynth -at- ehx.com

Thx for your detailed answer! Never thought about this iPhone/iPad selling strategies by companies.

  • I have the iPad version but I think the iPhone version has an extra performance page which can be configured to control up to five sliders.

True, this. I have both versions and the iPhone has a performance mode as @Trueyorky notes. A description of the iPhone-only functionality is included in the iPad inapp manual, if you need additional temptation to buy both versions

  • I really like this little thing. Used it on a track earlier, sounded good, got a good response.

  • It is very nice to have something that works as well as this at version one. No bullshit, no time wasting, just a great little app with a couple of tricks which, if not unique, are at least unusual at this price point. Bravo developers!

I'm sure I don't need another synth app, but it sounds and more importantly looks cool.

  • Would love to hear what Flo can do with this with a guitar input. Lovely UI, takes me right back.
