AB, IAA, etc support is definitely not insurmountable, I just haven't looked much into other iOS music software + I need to figure out how to mix my code with those Objective-C libraries etc..

    These instructional posts should help

  • Little update about the development. Just today got AudioCopy working (Only 16-bit 44.1khz supported? what a bottleneck..) Virtual MIDI / background app already done, next thing on the list is AudioBus output.

    Awesome

I have one request - One more zoom level in the piano roll. I like to divide the grid into 16ths and the current max zoom level makes it kinda fiddly to enter and move notes

Using latest version I cannot seem to connect either ThumbJam or tc-data as midi inputs. ThumbJam does not see any dhalang midi ports. Is the virtual midi working yet. Attempting to simply drive a selected dhalang synth on channel one from either ThumbJam or tc-data. Looking forward to Audiobus and IAA.

I didn't test it with many different apps, but I got it working at least with midibridge output/input and could send midi out to DXi synth app. Currently (1.3) there is no midi ports refresh in dhalang, so all that can be connected should be started before dhalang (real start after settings->quit, not background/home button) so that they show up and are selectable from dhalang midi settings. The app creates virtual midi ports with standard core midi functions. I don't know why they wouldn't show to some apps. I'd suggest using midibridge and starting it before dhl.

  • Update (1.4) : Audiobus is now working really good, Audiocopy also but something weird when opening audiopaste dialog (need to go home/menu and then back to app for it to continue). Background App audio now working like it should, Midiport refresh while running, Bitrate setting for offline render, pianoroll zoom one level deeper, and grid up to 1/32. Some UI updates with selections, buttons, etc.. double tapping resets floating point slide values. mixer delay times changes in relation to tempo change. Apple processed the update to be ready just about a hour ago, so maybe not globally available before some delay(?).

Another reason to 'skip' AudioCopy.app and add support for export using 'Open In...' to send the file where ever we desire to send them, AirDrop, AudioShare, iFiles2, FileBrowser, FileHub, Cubasis or just about any app that supports import by sending files to them :)

I thought this was what the dev was doing..... so this isn't an audioshare party?

  • I am sooo intrigued by this app, if they continue to chip away at these issues I'm definitely going to buy it.

Oh, I am too. If the dev has a sale, I'll likely nab it even before the issues are completely chipped away.

  • I dunno, these are some significant chips, but I'm optimistic

  • just got this message from the dev via fb....

"There are six polyphonic samplers. each can have slices up to 12 (by splitting data or by inserting more from audio files), so that means 72 slices/segments in total. Each segment has its own volume, pitch, pan and their variations. Audio can be imported only to the samplers memory and audio can be exported only from offline-rendered master output into to wav files. (in osx version there is also online render (buffered live recording) and split files option for offline rendering - I left it out from ios version as it's little stupid to render 24+ tracks of uncompressed audio into ipad's limited memory... ). All audiofiles are in app's own data container that now can be accessed with dropbox, audiocopy or itunes file sharing.
    "

I'm begging him for audioshare compatibility.

  • this dev is very open minded, he's more familiar with desktop needs than iOS but he's definitely interested in improving Dhalang so if you've got some good ideas please post them up so that he becomes aware of them.

Is IAA supported? ie. recording into audioshare and fx via AUM?

If he gives us audioshare and a little sale, I'm sold. :)

  • well after talking with the dev via fb I feel like, this is the kind of dev worth supporting so I bought the app, and am going to really try to get into it this weekend... he has said that he will add a separate volume for sample auditioning, among addressing other issues. He was very generous with his time and receptive.

I don't know yet, won't have a chance to check it out until later in the week but send him your questions via fb he'll respond, and let us know what happens here.

  • I have no idea what I'm doing with this app, i am however enjoying some of the sounds I am making but otherwise I haven't a clue ! ...... currently I'm saving the whole set up just for the sake of saving patches....

does anybody know how to load and save patches in the analog section..... I see no presets outside of the kick in the upper left corner but that is not a whole analog preset is it?......

sincerely yours, lost and loving it.

If you press and hold the button/area that says kick a dropdown list will appear with more presets. Below that are the buttons for loading and saving. Note that some of buttons have to be double clicked

  • Just looked into the default document chooser or send/import to app -feature in iOS and damn, makes a lot more sense than that Audiocopy - and works instantly. But I see that it's supported only by iOS 9.0+ ? So i guess there's sense having Audiocopy supported too, as some users are having iOS 7 and 8 devices. I might change the whole thing to have no dropbox interface at all, and in turn editable sub directories in the file container.. what do you think ?

  • oh man I don't wanna make the dropbox users upset but as far as the editable sub directories we've been wishing for that for ages round these parts!.....

for those of you who've gotten the app how is the stability?

Seems solid. It's quite a deep self contained laboratory.

Impressive stuff as demoed by pants of death. I may have to get this and hope Audiobus and IAA come along and hopefully midi to control those sound sources via tc-data ;). @Hypertonal ;)
As @eustressor noted it is an avant guard wet dream;)

How are you getting on with this app? I'm still on the fence... top of my drool list though. :)

Love the synths, they sound really great

The interface has it's quirks which i think comes from it also being desktop software. Things like double tapping buttons, press and hold for drop down menus etc. It's different from most iOS apps in that regard

The sequencer is easy to use now with the extra zoom level added in the latest update. Thanks mr dev! Speaking of which, he has been quick to improve it through updates

However, this app is deep and there are a lot of things i don't fully grasp yet. I've barely scratched the surface on the Vector and Matrix sequencers and have yet to dive into the particle part. It can really do a lot of things and as a result there is a learning curve

I love it and i feel like it can do so much more than what i'm capable of making it do

  • I'm just scratching the surface of jn2002dk's surface scratches... haven't gone back in yet.

  • @Hypertonal This is awesome and thanks to reviews here and PoD's video. Previously, I downloaded the free version had a quick go, thought it wasn't for me and deleted. I saw enough here to buy the full version and it is so powerful. Really really good :)

I really want to play with this one, but I read so much about how difficult and unfathomable the steep learning curve is.. and I wonder if it'd ultimately be a frustrating waste of $20 for my novice skill set.

On a side note, is this purely native synth sounds only? Or, can you also import in and sculpt new sounds based on your own field samples?

  • @skiphunt definitely lots going on so it is pretty deep but I like that. Synth options include analog, physical modelling, additive, FM and sampling. You can chop and slice samples, play each segment with a different key and apply filters, env, granular etc plus much of this can be modified and edited by controls within a sequence.

Ooooh... Getting into idensity-style granular-like stuff?
