  • @skiphunt well the granular section is definitely not idensity but it's effective. You can actually randomise the entire app so it will literally play itself. Me, I like to be more controlled but I am having fun using Markov chains to control my music in the Matrix section. I started with a blank page and just used trial and error to see what works - pretty cool. Nice to combine this with tracks in the piano roll.

To clarify, my comparison to idensity had more to do with... If you dig mangling up and generative, random, granular, etc. soundscapy stuff by using your own samples and field recordings... would Dhalang MG fit well in that sound genre?

  • @skiphunt most definitely :)

Thanks! Just watched the PoD video in it's entirety and am even more enamored with this app. The PoD video looks to be a good demo to get started, and on the Microtonal site there are some "quickstart" guides, but is there a more extensive actual manual if you wanted to get deeper into the app? Is there a manual built-in to the app?

Lastly, I see that there's a Mac OSX version this this app is a port of. Since the OSX version is obviously more mature, and only $5 more, would it make more sense to get the desktop version instead? Or, are there more compelling reasons to use this app on a touch surface?

  • @skiphunt not seen any built in help. I found some help on their website plus tutorial videos which helped but this does require quite a bit of trial and error as there is a learning curve. I have found it to be very rewarding though and worth the effort.

I guess desktop vs iPad is down to personal choice but I much prefer a touch device. Many of the functions are quirky as they need double clicks etc., but that just adds to the fun.

  • Looks like this app just got an update. To those who have it and have checked out what's new, what say you? :)
