Well done Apple. I used to have to swipe up to turn the volume down now I need to swipe up and to the side. No worries, it's all about the experience.
Did they fix they the disappearing on-screen volume display (after sleep with Smart Cover) bug? Been waiting forever for a fix on that. Never addressed thru many 9.x.x updates.
I think so, I used to get that with Audioshare. I have to say though, that while everything seems to work as before, I can't say that there's anything hugely enticing for musicians (unless i haven't found these things out yet) Perhaps it is their biggest ever update if you message a lot / use the Apple apps a lot etc. but I don't quite get that claim.
Issue with Cubasis and Phonem AU using internal keyboard. Phonem works ok as AU in AUM
Has anyone tested how Korg apps are working with 10? Gadget? Module? iM1? Kaosilator? ....?
All of those work as expected
Is MusicIO working with 10?
Don't know. I'm using the lightning->usb cable for audio and sending midi over wifi.
When needed I prefer to use studiomux instead of MusicIO(I prefer the way studiomux integrates with OS X).
I'm a hold-out... in fact, I have skipped an iteration or two because I was quite happy with what I had. Why screw with what's working?
@Brain me too. I can't stand it when a product advertises itself as the most wonderful thing ever and then arrives with quirks and bugs. I'm sure iOS 10 overall is fine, ...mostly. But I'll gladly wait till 10.3.x which will be objectively much better than 10.0 and have the little flaws ironed out.
So, for those who have updated, what do people here (as musicians) thing about this 'biggest update ever' ?
I think it's not an update for musicians par se. It has speeded up some uses, but nothing important for music app use.
I do think it's an update that has brought with it very few issues for music apps so far on my iPad Air2. Compared to my experiences of iOS 8 and 9, it's been pretty smooth sailing so far.
Most of what was a pain before such as midi, file distribution etc etc is still a pain now. Touch wood, not much in the way of new issues encountered so far.
Yes, still a few updates to be had - Auria etc
So, why did I bother? Security updates and that slightly smoother running feel as a whole that comes with a fresh update. I do like some of the little iOS tweaks such as the music player and mail have had.
I would neither recommend updating or not. Don't think it will make much difference to most users, unless you use one of the few apps that need updating.
So the biggest news is: It didn't break anything (except AP). Great update!
Yeah, pretty much
unless there are more changes under the hood that the devs and clever people here know about?
You could say, it's more a Jo iPhoner update to show iOS can have those little things that they seem to like. You know the little tricks that Android have that now iOS users can have too. Nothing that many serious musos will care about.
Did anyone notice a faster battery discharge with iOS 10? (iPad air 2)
It really seems to discharge at a faster rate...but maybe I imagine things
We'll soon see iOS10.1 anyway
Yes, I'm thinking maybe it does drain fractionally faster. The problem is I'm not 100% sure it hasn't been doing that for a while before I updated and having heard the rumours, I am connecting dots that are not really there. So not really sure.
Definitely something odd with YouTube app audio on IOS10. I get the crackly distortion everyday and have also experienced out of sync audio but a unplug/replug of my iCA4+ cable fixes it. If I switch to pandora while YouTube audio is distorted, pandora audio is clear while YouTube audio remains distorted. Odd!
I know YouTube isn't a crucial app for audio production but it is the app I use most so I think it is something to be aware of if you are on the fence for updating. Aside from that, just some minor non-audio related things so far. Overall, happy I updated.
"best iOS ever" "best iPhone ever" Apple is the queen of hyperbole.
All this truly means is "we improved stuff"
(and for us fringe users who are making iOS do things which 99% of the masses do not do, Apple also broke a few things)
for example: I hear MIDI Designer Pro is having iOS 10 issues with recognizing Network MIDI connections. Anyone else seeing this with other apps? http://mididesigner.com/qa/5173/trouble-with-wi-fi-connectivity-ios10
Actually my iPhone 5S seems to last longer on iOS 10. Overall it wasn't a bad upgrade. No earth-shattering innovations, but plenty of little tweaks that make the whole experience a bit nicer and smoother.
My iPhone 6 is draining faster. I have an Air 2 but haven't updated yet.
On iPad-mini2, iOS 10 -- No audio issues, so far, with YouTube app (or anything else, luckily). But, I had experienced out of sync audio/video on the YouTube app long before iOS10. I typically listen via earbuds, but will try it while connected to my audio interface and see if I get any distortion.
Other iOS 10 observations:
As to battery life; we see this come up whenever a new iOS is released, so unless we can do accurate and controlled testing...its anyone's guess. Although it took me a while after updating to iOS10 to notice that the iPad was in Bluetooth mode, and I didn't turn it on, so that could take up some extra battery juice.
Music apps: various tests revealed no issues with midi internally(core midi) or via audio interface to PC. I was very pleased that Cubasis and iSymphonic work very well together. I don't have that many apps on the mini2 due to 32GB constraint, but Gadget, (with iM1 and Module) are working fine and dandy as are synths such as Thor, Animoog, Synthmaster Player, Magellan, and iSem.
Audio Units: no issues using Cubasis as well as AUM as hosts.
My daughter was having a similar strange issue with audio from any app besides spotify. I rebooted her phone and the issue disappeared.
This link now goes nowhwere. What's the status on the update?
Thanks
Still waiting for the update.
Rim told it would be released next week!
Thanks -
I wonder why that link is down...hope people weren't getting testy.
It's not down! http://auriaapp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=14690
